Topic: This may seem like sacriledge...

but please bear with me. Crystal and I have only recently become huge Joe Bonamassa fans. In the past three months we've purchased Sloe Gin, Live at the Royal Albert Hall, Don't Explain and See Saw (with Beth Hart). We love these albums, but as we all know, every artist produces one album that is a must have in any collection. Joe has put out a bunch of music, and we'll probably get around to collecting them all eventually, but I thought I would come directly to the fans and ask, "Which is your favorite Joe Bonamassa album?"

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

ooh that is a very tough question to ask! Personally I love his live albums the most. Live at the Beacon Theatre, Live from Nowhere in Particular, Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Operahouse! What I recommend is to buy his live concert dvds, it's a totally different experience watching him perform! Hope this helps some, and welcome to the forum!! smile

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

2nd. vote for Nowhere in Particular! Or how about Driving Towards The Daylight?  KILLER album!!!

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

Welcome! A frequently asked question and the answer is they're all good! I honestly cannot choose one over the other, my favorite is whichever one I am currently listening to smile You are correct, you will eventually have all of them. Any of the live cds are great compilations and stand out for that reason. For fun you could list them all on separate pieces of paper throw them in a hat and do a blind draw, first choice is it no throw backs and 2nd draws. Save them and when you're ready for to buy the next one make another draw. Be sure to come back and let us know what you picked wink Joe's in the studio now so there will be a shiny new one to choose from before long wink So stick around and enjoy the ride!!

I agree - the live concert dvds are really special. It's hard to choose a favourite CD, but I think I have to vote for You and Me.

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

Puh, it's difficult to figure out if there's one album better than the next or before. I think that's rather a question of what you like: Live or (studio) album? smile

Live: I have them all and don't wanna miss a single one of this collection... "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" is truly a highlight, but the four DVD's of "Tour de Force" are maybe a nice documentary report for you about his career and development?

Album: Driving towards the daylight, Blues Deluxe, Dust Bowl, Black Rock, So it's like that...

I am curious to know what you think!

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

LFNIP has a live sound like no other I find, but that is just IMO. From the studio side I'm with Kenny and would go for 'You and Me', mainly because it contains the absolute epic 'Tea For One', which is, for me, a track like no other, but also it was the first time Joe had worked with Kevin Shirley and the whole album has a sense of discovery. LFNIP was the first live interpretation from that moment and it captures it so well.

If you like rock then BCC's '2' is also a tremendous album, but it is a shared affair as there are 3 other virtuoso's on the album.

Its all subjective of course.

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

Welocme to the group.......They are all good....but my fav is still:   "You & ME"

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

The Ballad of John Henry is my current favorite.

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

I would have to go with You and Me, with an honourable mention for John Henry and Blues Deluxe

Even fools say something worthwhile now and again

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

for me...LFNIP.  It was the first one I bought just before my first time ever seeing JB live.  Brings back great memories and oh my that tone

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

+1 on LFNIP, I think Dust Bowl is also great, You & Me is right up there as well. but seriously, it's like picking a "best in show" dog at the Westminister Kennel Club. smile

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

CharlesandCrystal, welcome to Joe's out-of-control fan forum!  So glad you found it, you'll fit right in.

This question comes up now and then, but as you can see it's a Sophie's Choice situation.  Every DVD and cd of Joe's is spectacular, in different ways, and we all change our favorites every week!

My opinion is that Live from Royal Albert Hall is the gold standard and probably forever my favorite, probably because that's what introduced me to Joe.  But then I like Joe's rockier side, so So It's Like That is also at the top of the list.  +1 on LFNIP is terrific.  Just started listening to You & Me and Blues Deluxe so not as strong an opinion there as yet.  I like some of the "sophistication" of Joe's newer stuff but also came to appreciate his rawness in the earlier albums.

As everyone says, you will just work your way through them all, you can't go wrong with anything Joe.  Pretty soon you too will have a tough time deciding what to play next.

I just wish there were 18 slots in my car cd player!

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

Favorite is a personal and subjective thing. The live CDs are kind I'd like bests of so that's an easy place to start.after that it pickem. They all sound like Joe but have some different vibes.I see alot of You and Me picksbut that's not One of my top picks so just goes to show.If you have the cash the store has the whole catalogue as a package.Otherwise I would say just start off by picking blindly and surprise yourself?

Re: This may seem like sacriledge...

Dust Bowl, definitely.  Not a bad song on the album, tons of variety, and Joe is just absolutely on fire on this record.  Great production, great mix.  It has everything.

Ballad of John Henry isn't too far behind - another A+ album from start to finish.  Sloe Gin, You & Me and Black Rock are also excellent.

I have about 10 JB albums, and to be honest Driving Towards The Daylight is my least favorite.  Other people love it, so just goes to show, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.
