I ask, because he's playing at the Paradiso in July and I was intending to go because 1. I've never seen him live, and 2. I want to see my buddy Jim Suhler. All input gratefully received.

If it were me, I'd pass. Loud, obnoxious personality onstage who's seen better days was my impression of GT and Jim is riding the stage for a payday. He got a couple of licks in when he was allowed and pretty much stayed way back in the corner otherwise. We bailed out on the third song. Holdem stayed since he lives nearby and didn't have a long drive.

Too bad.  I saw him years ago but sorry to hear he's not what he used to be.

I wont be quite as harsh as Rick. To paraphrase a local review (that had high praise for Joe of course!), GT didn't have the blues depth of the other bands, but capably delivered the message of "live for the moment". My sentiments exactly!  Jim did get a couple of solos to shine on after Rick left, maybe a minute or two each.

If you want to hear his greatest hits live and party its certainly not a waste of time or money. Just don't expect any surprises, and do expect a lot of "worship George" moments!

probably a more fair opinion than mine. If that is what you go in expecting, that is what you get. Say hi to Jim, I didn't get a chance.

Speaking of George Thorogood, George, just go! It's a rock and roll party.  Of course it's all predictable, but would you expect anything less?  Raucous, boisterous (that's the point!), and in the final analysis, a whole lot of inoccent fun. wink cool

Well that right there is my type of concert! Hell to the Yeah!  Hear a band's Greatest Hits live and Party! Ding! Ding! Ding!

Okay maybe he should add some new material. Maybe his show is getting old. I found him to be quite funny on stage and in interviews.  Maybe you don't want to see him numerous times, but I have had great fun at his shows because I love his music.  Sorry you guys were disappointed.

"GT didn't have the blues depth of the other bands?" A lot of those bands are playing Blues Rock because George was one of the frontrunner of Blues Rock.  He's the one that gave Blues a Hard Rock edge to it, and marketable to Rock Fans.  George has got personality that matches his style of playing.  You can't just have anyone play "Bad to the Bone" and make it believable.  His voice and his guitar playing are just downright Nasty.

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

I hope I didn't imply I was disappointed!  Theres room for Greatest Hits and Party time at a 2 day festival!  I knew what to expect and he delivered.

Though the crowd had thinned out quite a bit and it was a long day at the main stage (first act 11:30 and GT came on around 7:30) there weren't very many people capable of sitting down!  There WAS even one surprise (for me anyway, not being a GT follower since the days of the East Coast bar circuit), a seemingly genuine tribute to Johnny and June Carter Cash with video and "Cocaine Blues".

Hence my suggestion that it would be neither a waste of time nor money for Amsterhammer to go to his show.

She hasn't half the voice of Susan, but plays better than most anyone, male or female. Her set was regarded by most as a highlight of the weekend. I'll be putting her whole set up this weekend and the hairy guy in  front of me swapped spots when he saw I was shooting. The later songs are from right in front.

They are both women! That's where the similarity ends.  JK...well sorta.

I think there is a pretty distinct difference though...ST to me is more Texas/country blues and JST, naturally, more British blues/rock with a huskier tone and without the sweet country vibrato ST ends a lot of phrases with. I don't think she has ST's range or control yet, but she is just a kid.

Funny - I love Susan but many on the ABB forum hate her voice and her appearances with the Allmans as well as her "influence on Derek" and Tedeschi Trucks.  She's got one of the worlds best guitarists in Derek. I saw her years ago before she married Derek in a bookstore signing in Boston.

Look forward to the videos; thanks! I give the tapers so much credit for seemingly caring about the taping at their expense of possible enjoyment of the show themselves.  I know The Beacon allows it but not every venue does.
