Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

I just realised that Phil and I will be celebrating our 21 yr wedding anniversary at the June 7 Rock Candy show! Music has always been a big part of our life together and it is especially cool considering our first interaction was because of music. It all began back in 1987 when we happened to be sitting near each other in the dining hall at the Univ. of Md. and by some miracle the radio was playing Pink Floyd. It was a miracle because it was the campus radio station and they never played anything cool. Phil spoke up and asked incredulously isn't that song Sheep from Pink Floyd's Animals, and I piped up, no, that's Pigs (three different ones). Well of course he was instantly smitten because here was a cool girl who knew all about Pink Floyd ( Phil's version might be slightly different, but this is my story wink). So here we are many years later and music continues to be a big part of our lives together. Thanks Joe and the rest of Rock Candy for an awesome anniversary present!

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

We were just down on Broadway checking out the Iridium. Oh my god, so reminds me of the Baked Potato. Tiny little place tucked in between two large places. You could easily walk by and never know it was there. We went in and the club is in the basement. Stage is raised a foot or so off the floor and tables are rows that end literally right at the stage. There is a raised area in the back of the room with more tables as well. Holds about 120-140. Talked to the woman at the box office. They expect it to sell out soon, especially because of Joe's name on the bill. This will be so cool!

We will be on the sidewalk in front of the place. What time you show up depends on how long you are willing to stand out on the sidewalk before the show starts.

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

I am so delighted to hear that my friend James Biehn from Des Moines,IA is going to be attending the June 7th show.  He is the number 1 guitarist in Des Moines and is like our Joe, loved and followed by many.  He messaged me he is attending a music camp for grown-ups in the Catskills called ROOTS ROCK REVIVAL JUNE 3-7.  His instructors are Butch Trucks & Oteil Burbridge (Allman Bros) and Luther & Cody Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars).  He takes master classes during the day and they then have open jams at night.  So he said he had some time left over on June 7th and he was looking for something to do in NYC and Joe's name came up on the radar.....I gave him a unanimous thumbs up on going.  If any of you happen to see a average height guy, bald, with lots of tattoos it will be him. I don't know if he will be with anyone else, but I am sure you would enjoy meeting him.  He is a super great guy! I also told him I am so totally jealous!  He hopes to get to say hi to Joe and Tal.   smile.    pattyluvsjoe

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

We will be at all 3 shows. Phil never believes in going to just one because he's always afraid he'll miss something, so I certainly don't argue with that logic. So we will probably see you, can1208 and your friend, James, Patty. I think James has a very good chance of saying hi to Joe and Tal. If it's any thing like the Baked Potato, the guys are usually right there in between sets hanging out because there is no where else to go.

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

I'll be at both 6/8 shows!

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

It looks like the worst year ever to announce I still haven't attended Mountain Jam I-IX.  Going way back on this forum I've expressed regret missing it almost annually.  Warren Haynes and Radio Woodstock have also notched it up.  In more ways than one! It's become a bit more ( roll ) commercialized, but hey, that's what today's going to be like little lost sheep if their tech stuff goes kaput crowd goes for.  And, hey, it's actually all value-enhancing experiences, so the kids are alright! wink

This year is a double whammy, as June 6-9 Mountain Jam IX http://mountainjam.com/which ironically coincides with Rock Candy Funk Party appearances this year. yikes  Perhaps not anyone else's idea of "mixing it up" between big city and country livin', but goin' up the country might be something for someone else to consider.  Patty, James is actually close.  He will perhaps want to hangout in Woodstock, an artists' haven of a town (not the festival site btw)..of course, Big Pink is just further on up the road in Saugerties.  Beautiful time of year in the Catskills (well, all seasons are), bear(s) in mind storms not making Weather Channel news may require quick actions and thinking to take safe precautions.

Aw did I miss again? hmm  I think I missed again!! Uh huh sad  It's ok, Natasha & Phil, I hope you and everyone live it up liked you just turned 21 and War Is Over!  I expect you two to stike the kiss in Times Square pose (somewhere besides the middle of the street, like at home with a green screen background-then take a picture of Times Square from the street up towards the Times building while safely crossing the street, then mix 'em together) cool

Next time? neutral

You will be missed Rocket. Hopefully we'll see you again. As Joe said "When we randomly select to do this, some random time at the Baked Potato".

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

Only one more week until the Rock Candy shows! Anyone else here going aside from ourselves, "Bump", "can1208" and "jb the best there is"?

Re: Rock Candy Funk Party in NY

If I could be in NYC for this "party", I surely would be.  I'm sure it will be outstanding.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.
