Topic: Good Idea? Not?

A little over a month ago I started up a blog related to K-12 educational issues. Had an idea a few days ago for using it to, among other things, promote our hero. I wrote to J&R Marketing about the idea, but haven't heard back yet (I'm sure they're slammed with the London tour, the DVD release, etc.), but thought some of y'all might let me know what YOU think...

On the left sidebar of the blog's front page, there's an area called "Joe B. Gear of the Day." The plan is to put an image of a different product from the JB Store in there every day. Click on the image, and you get re-directed to the JB Store ordering page for that item (and, therefore, to the whole JB Store).

I'm not going to get to do any conventional Street Teaming for quite awhile, since the Bonamassa Express ain't comin' to Iowa again anytime soon. Does this idea seem like a reasonable way to introduce a few folks to The Man (I also post links to Joe B. videos on the blog from time to time).

This seems to me to be a lot less risky than trying to rig the TVs in Best Buy to show Joe videos...   big_smile

Re: Good Idea? Not?

I read your front page and can tell we agree on much more than who the best guitarist is. wink I can't say officially but what you might call the thought of embedding links to the store as Street Teaming might be construed as more of an ad sponsorship.

I got slammed on my personal Facebook for slipping in personal political opinion in between Joe B posts. I had to refer people to my Music Promotion Page for anybody that doesn't want to hear my political rants but still wanted my musical opinions and news. I was accused of representing Joe and tainting his image. I wonder if that would be the case if the person agreed with me. Oh well I'm used to hypocrisy.

I think your blog is an admirable adventure and the thought of stealth Street Teaming their is also much appreciated I'm sure but guilt by associations might be interpreted by having a link on the sidebar. Joe is one of those rare musicians that thinks he is in the music business and that doesn't mean you want to hear his political opinions. He is at the stage in his career where he can't afford to piss off half his audience and to tell you the truth even if he could he still doesn't want to use his platform to preach from.

I would say possibly since you have an educational blog maybe link to Joe'e Keeping the Blues Alive project. It is educational and exposes people to Joe the Blues artist without upsetting the equilibrium he maintains on other issues.

Hadn't thought of that, but perhaps you're right. I've removed the gadget...

I have mentioned/linked to Joe's school-related project on the blog before, and will continue to do so unless instructed otherwise...

See, that's what I love about this place: Ask, and ye shall be answered...   wink

Re: Good Idea? Not?

I agree and was gonna say pretty much the same thing. Either way it IS advertising, so at least if the Keeping Blues Alive is educational, that might be more fitting.

Re: Good Idea? Not?

I agree that the store thing is not so appropriate.Had an idea that you could have a link to the Jane Pauley video or something showing Joe in his child  prodogy days.
