I believe your thinking of Jeorge Tripps.

Nope, Joe has a signature Wah and Fuzz Face.  Check the Bonamassa site under equipment or the Dunlop site.

I know Joe has a signature fuzzface and a wah. Van Weelden doesn't work for Dunlop, Jeorge Tripps does. That was my point.

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

It doesn't matter who works for who. It's not a signature piece of gear.

That was what I was trying to get at. Thanks

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

You said you were surprised he didn't go to Dunlop which is why I figured you were missing that this pedal was not intended to be a signature pedal. It's just a pedal and some people have tested it for input.

Gotcha

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

Last time I contacted Peter he had mentioned he was making a pedal this must be it. I have to get one I am sure it is awesome.

I assume you'll let us know when it will be available, costs and your thoughts? Thanks!

Peter specifically said he made this pedal for Joe. But yeah, Peter doesn't do names on his pedals, he is his own name. Unlike George Tripps, Peter isn't affiliated with any other brand to work out/produce his designs. Peter is also not interested in the whole marketing business like Dunlop.

This pedal is more then 2 years in the making from one of the most accomplished techs in guitar history.. someone who invented the brown sound, and later captured it into 1he... and you guys come up with tubescreamers, boss ds1's and mxr pedals as comparison? Am I missing something?

I was being totally sarcastic with my 'DS-1 comparison' earlier.  But then again, mine is an original MIJ 1981 DS-1 which currently seems to be back in favour as a 'sought after' rare pedal, so who knows?! smile

On a bit more of a serious note, I would like to A/B this pedal against my 2 button Lazy-J Cruiser...

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

I stand corrected then. I thought it was simply an overdrive or distortion pedal made by Van Weelden. That was my understanding when this was brought up a while back as well.

I think the mention of a Tube Screamer as a comparison is because it IS the pedal that everyone seems to copy in one form or another. Every OD pedal out there from boutique builders is always based off of one, but everyone likes to somehow make tweaks to the design. Taking sound out of the equation, there might be a similarity between the tube screamer's design and all other overdrive pedals. That, I do not know. So that could also be possibly what MACG1 is talking about.

I think we all agree it will be of superb quality and sound fantastic in the hand's of a good player.

Peter also made many things for EVH also.

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

Maybe people should think about working on their fingers first...before looking for the 'next big thing'...
Everyone should be given a Fender Twin and a tubescreamer...then we see...
This box won't make you any better...but will do wonders for the mind.

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

I think we may conclude that this is something else then a standard dirt box... probably a mini amp in a pedal will come closer since it doesn't rely a lot on interaction with a given amp. If we look at the tone controls/mid boost/and three way bright switch it certainly has a mini amp design.

I disagree on the Tubescreamer Fender amp analogy... Tubescreamers and many other dirtboxes are masters in disguising faults and flaws of players... as a novice you can sound quite good quite quickly with a ts on a fender.. due to the compressing effect dynamics actually lessen.. especially with lots of gain. That is the 'hitting against a wall' effect that Peter described. Peter specifically said that this pedal is going to be very ellastic/responsive... therefore quite the opposite.

So it is quite likely that this box (like a very good honost tube amp) is going to be very transparent and show your faults.

offcourse i agree not to be raving about new gear... but this van Weelden pedal has to be something special.

Yes, he invented the brown sound.. he was EVH's techy, later Richie Sambora... when the Marshalls were still JMP's and not too overly gainy... When the rest of the world was still computing on 386's... and internet didn't even exist to share out information.. Peter was allready pimping up gear...

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

Peter informed me that it is being road tested. It is unlike any pedal out there. He will have something on his web site at some point. It is something new, new circuitry. It focuses on the harmonics so that you could play heavy distorted chords and still hear the strings instead of just one big powerless undefined blur of distortion. He also said that it has some unique circuitry to make it work with any guitar and  amp model. even solid state amps. Also no need to crank up your tube or solid state amp to make it sound great. It sounds great on a super clean amp also. It can be used as a pedal and also as a preamp. I am on his list to receive one from the first batch. Not sure when that will be but when I get it I will report back with clips and review. Cheers Ron

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

Similar to the Big Trees?
Same price?

Tonally...the VW head didn't blow me away...especially for the price...nor the Two-Rock.
The Cat 5 and SJ were the balls in the sound.
However...I think he has had the best tone with the SB and DS...though sometimes we may be hearing the DSL.

Re: Van Weelden Royal Overdrive Pedal.

Hello to everyone out here,

The Van Weelden Royal Overdrive is NOT another copy or modification of already existing distortionpedals.
This is a completely NEW design.
It gives you the feel and elastic sound of an overdriven tube amp.
Top quality components and design.
Yes, most likely somewhat more expensive than your regular distortionpedal but way more times better quality.

I believe that you can only truly judge the quality of something like this, if you have heard it upclose or have played it yourself like I have.
It is like nothing you have ever heard before; it's that good, believe it.
I suggest you get your hands on one and never let it go.

Greetings from the Netherlands.
