Topic: Planet Rock's Top 10 artists

For the past month or so, Planet Rock has been asking listeners to vote for their favorite bands and artists, and they played the top 10 on saturday night, and played one song from each. Here's what they picked. I'm listing them from 10 to 1, which is the order in which they were played:

10. David Bowie - Starman

9. AC/DC - Highway To Hell

8. The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

7. The Rolling Stones - Jumpin' Jack Flash

6. Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe

5. Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water

4. Pink Floyd - Money (I would've played a different song. Comfortably Numb would've been great.)

3. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

2. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

1. Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks (Thank goodness they didn't pick Stairway To Heaven)

Yes, no surprise there, it's still the 1970s for most PR listeners...

You're only jealous 'cos you were born too late to experience the best decade for music 1st hand. wink

Joking aside, you do have a point, Duncan. I'm only able to listen to PR for a short time in the evening (Nicky Horne's show usually) and a bit at the weekend and I'm getting tired of the same old songs which must be on a playlist. At the weekend these are invariably the few hits that the big groups are well known for; eg the AOR stuff from the 70s and far too much, Bowie, Mott The Hoople's one hit, Queen (the pantomime Led Zeppelin as they were once described by Stuart Maconie), Eagles etc. You get the picture. hmm

I find the best time to listen to PR is overnight when there are no DJs to interrupt the music and they play some really good stuff. There must be a closet Gov't Mule fan organising the music during the early hours as for the last few Saturday mornings at just before 6.00am they've played their version of Rocking Horse. That certainly pricks up my ears. smile

So, if you're an insomniac or live in the US or Australasia when our night time is your day time, you may think PR is a pretty good station.

I'm in agreement with Duncan in that the only thing this list illustrates is too many of us refuse to move to the present.

Re: Planet Rock's Top 10 artists

Black Country Communion is the only band missing from that list ^^

Re: Planet Rock's Top 10 artists

I listen to Planet Rock mainly to hear Joe Bonamassa's show & Joe Elliott's show, and My Planet Rocks sometimes. Amps Off isn't bad either.

Re: Planet Rock's Top 10 artists

I'm a big fan of 70's music. However,The localclassic rock stations here are guilty of the same thing.Overplaying already overplayed tracks. So I am more into new music with a 70,s stlye to it. I find new music derivitive of that late 60'4 to mid 70's era the most enjoyable.
