Hey guys here's my take on Joe's song dust bowl. I am honestly ashamed to say that I never listened to the song before I recorded this but I just loved the western showdown feel of the track. This was all improvised on the spot after listening to the track one time. I was kind of thinking how would Peter Green, Mick Taylor, and Paul Kossoff approach it and this is what I came up with. Let me know what you think, and if you guys could give it a thumbs up and pass it around, it would mean the world to me. Thank You.

Re: Guitar Center Blues Masters featuring Joe Bonamassa Contest

Hello everyone, I'd like to get opinions from actual guitar players on my vid for the GC Joe Bonamassa contest. I decided to go with Blue and Evil. I tried to just play a simple part that fit into the song and didn't solo until close to the end. In fact I think I may have overdone the "underdoing" and got kinda boring.  I also realized too late that a string is slightly out of tune :fp . I don't play out anywhere and don't hang out with many players so just wanted some opinions other than friends and relatives. Thanks :-)

Re: Guitar Center Blues Masters featuring Joe Bonamassa Contest

it is a weird contest as it seems more of a popularity contest then ...anything. some people have so many views others like me get next to none ... how is that? guess it's gonna be a mystery to me... I put quite a bit of time into my entry tho it looks to be just for my enjoyment as 25 views in a week are not ... really what i had hoped for and.....no comments except 1 and since i have 2 video's i would be nice to find out which one people liked better.  or if they liked it at all?

Re: Guitar Center Blues Masters featuring Joe Bonamassa Contest

Yeah it seems that way but actually I don't think the winners will be based on popularity. The view count only determines who is guaranteed to be looked at (top 100), if they can't find 10 they like out of those 100 they have the option of looking at more contestants if they want to. At least that's how I understand the judging. Anyway it's all in fun for me, didn't cost me anything, and didn't even have to leave my apartment :-)

What you played certainly fit the song, and if you were playing with a band and had a singer it'd be a very complimentary part, which is cool.  As as solo piece it's a lot to ask someone to sit through several minutes to get to the payoff, so to speak.   Just my 2c.

Does anyone know if the view count is for how many times people watched the entire video, versus just the first 30 seconds?  I'm curious how the counting works.  I've watched several dozen takes, but only a handful all the way through.

Agreed Zeyer about the need to hang for the solo. Re your question, the poster of the vid can call up "analytics" on youtube and get a look at "engagement" which shows exactly what you are asking once enough views are logged to give an accurate sample. It even breaks down to age, sex, region and a lot more about viewers of an individual video or whole channel.

Not a bad take!  I liked your tone and there were some nice licks in there.

How to make your guitar sound like a deranged organ!!! EH FREEZE PEDAL AND A VOLUME PEDAL

Hey Y'all! Thought I'd post my take on Dust Bowl here as well... I really tried to cop his vocal in this since I have always loved the way he sang on this track with little intricacies and subtle variations.

Hope you guys dig. SHARE it if you would like to help put me in the spot light!

Re: Guitar Center Blues Masters featuring Joe Bonamassa Contest

how frustrating   me : 54 points   some guys over 20000
and some of those videos sound like they were recorded in the shower!
and video work...i have seen NONE except mine... yes i'm not the best guitar player but ...
be nice if I even got a small percentage of views

Re: Guitar Center Blues Masters featuring Joe Bonamassa Contest

I totally understand the frustration, but honestly, I don't care about the video presentation.  It's 100% the playing for me.  Good sound quality is nice, but if the playing is stellar it will come through.  It's really about having a network of people out there to watch and spread the word.  Not a lot of people are going to go browse the submissions, it needs to be marketed like anything else.  Good luck, maybe you can get more views in the last couple weeks.

I did notice a lot of submissions where folks clearly didn't read the rules - wearing band logo t-shirts and stuff.
