I just went back to the yoov.io gallery and I guess I"m a little confused regarding those at the top having well over 100,000 points.  I read a comment by one of them that said, once things start rolling it really starts to snowball.

If that were the case, wouldn't their numbers have continued to climb more and more?  I monitored scoring for a couple weeks after the competition ended and sure enough the point counts slowed dramatically the day after the contest ended (didn't stop completely, but came to a trickle), now the numbers are pretty much at a stop.

I'm just confused at how that could be if it were snowball affect, you'd think the numbers would continue to climb for quite a while before starting to tickle off (because of lack of promoting the videos).

Just sayin...

I tend to think that the folks on the front page were the ones who submitted an entry early on, and then since their video was on the front page it just stayed there because that's the most viewed page.  They kept racking up views simply because their video was in the most visible section.  For this reason, I have to think the point totals probably mean nothing in the end.

The guy with the Dust Bowl background playing at the #1 slot had at one time 10,000 some-odd points, then I checked a facebook page he was linked to that had 10,000 some-odd 'likes'....almost exactly "point-to-like ratio". Once I realized that I researched paid facebook likes & sure enough, "buy 10k likes for $350 or whatever".

I even considered doing that very same thing the last week of the contest. Trying to make myself believe that cheating was part of making it through the first round. Maybe it was?? Win at all costs??? Preparing you for the music business already????
I couldnt convince MYSELF it was right.

And I dont blame or mean any disrespect to JoeB, or the contest in general. Or most of all, the TRUE top 100 that done it honest. This post is just simply a salute to those who really done it fair & honest.

I'm sure hit count doesn't guarantee winning.  A lot of the videos I've seen with high hit counts have been pretty terrible.  It would not look good for Guitar Center or any of the sponsors to have such a winner.  While it's "a" factor, it's surely not the only factor.  I've also seen a lot of decent videos that clearly broke the rules (singing, famous band logos somewhere in the shot, etc) so they have to weed those folks out.

Interesting about the FB paid likes - I didn't realize that was possible but it makes sense given their high point totals.

Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it.  Hopefully in doing the contest you had fun and learned something, I sure did.  If I'm (or anyone here is) lucky enough to be a finalist, that's great.  If not, it was still worth it.  That said, it'd be cool to have a JB forumite as a finalist, right Joe!!?!?!?!?!? smile

i agree with zeyer, joe is gonna pick the 10 best players ,regardless of hits,especially  the dudes who blatantly  pulled some shenanagan's  ,   joe  is no dummy   ,who ever wins, will truly deserve it, that's how  i feel about it

Any news as to the top 10 finalists? I am guessing the delay is due to Joe's current tour with Beth Hart... Today is June 24th..
Or, maybe they are actually going through all 2600+ entries!!

You may be right... there were well over 2500 channels that people created within the contest interface. Not sure how many of them actually entered a video.

deffinetly a different contest. Ive called GC corporate several times to get an answer, but they just pass the call around till I get hanged up on.....Im thinking so many people cheated, even some maybe by accident, that
