Re: JB Fans in the Southern States

well Mike, I was dead wrong on the Irondale Cafe being the original Whistle Stop from the movie. It helps to check the facts sometimes. The original they used in the movie is in Juliette,Georgia. I have no idea if it is still there. Sorry to burst the bubble but you have some pics from a lookalike that happens to have pretty good food.

Re: JB Fans in the Southern States

Yep, Hera and I finally hooked up. as he mentioned I have had to cut short my stay and leave the US tomorrow.
My trusty hire car and I did the best we could in the time and a couple of thousand miles or more have been cranked on the odometer.
Happily I 'did' Nashville, stood on the stage at the Grand Old Opry and did the tour. Spent Friday and Saturday watching the local bands tear the District's down. Nashville is a cool place. I liked it.

Did Jack Daniels in Lynchburg and that I can recommend. Free tour and a lot of fun, specially if you get Chris as you're tour guide. The man has class, even if he did catch me sniffin' a 'bunghole', not to be confused with anything else!

Talladega was awesome. Petrol head paradise. There were a lot of other sights in between. Sometimes just being out in that country is enough.

I guess though the one thing that really stood out above everything is that Alabama has the worst road surfaces in the south. OK I didn't get to Louisiana or Miss. But they would have to go some to beat Alabama's!

Til next time.

Re: JB Fans in the Southern States

Sorry you had to cut your stay with us short, Mike, but it sounds like you made good use of the time you had.  Would have to agree about all the wide open spaces ... you can drive for miles and miles and get lost in a dream.  Isn't Lynchburg, Tennessee a beautiful area!

Louisiana and Mississippi await your return.  New Orleans is a must!  As for the bad roads, we have our share, especially on the secondary highways and backroads ... but you'll love our food, music and culture!

Safe journey home.
