Hi first welcome to the forum where all things Bonamassa can be found. Congrats on taking lessons. The best advise at this stage is do not give up keep pushing forward. The tone thing will come into it's own as you improve. You see at the end of the day 90% of your tone is how you approach your guitar playing, the way your fingers connect to the strings and once you have some playing time under your belt it boils down to how your soul connects to the instrument. Obviously it helps to have unnatural talent and dedication as Joe does also. The amps and pedals and stuff do come into play but it all starts with you. Try to get great tone without the guitar plugged into anything once you like what you hear things will begin to fall into place. Well welcome aboard many very nice folks on board.
Cheers Ron

Re: new member tone question

Welcome to the forum. Based on my own experience one bit of advice I would give (which perhaps not everyone will agreed with) is learn some music theory as well as playing the instrument. Get to know the chromatic scale like the back of your hand and the main scales (I started with the major, major pentatonic, minor, minor pentatonic and mixolydian scales). Learn chord theory e.g a major chord is made up of the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes from the major scale.

You don't have to learn music theory but I believe it will help you in the long term.
