Re: We Want Grooove

Well, Rocket, Here is "Ode to G" second night, second set. I've written my review, (didn't you see it on the third page of this topic and a little more on the fourth page) so now I'm allowed to share my video footage wink. When Joe was in the throes of his solo on this tune, I think it is safe to say he transported all of us to a whole other reality. Unfortunately, videos never quite do it justice, but it is pretty damn good anyway. Enjoy!

The audio will take a little longer since Phil is still in bed trying to catch up on sleep smile

I guess it's because it wasn't on the set list I brought home

The following is a pretend "hassle"/"tussle" just to rustle up some views for weekend promotion carry on, ok?

That certainly can't be Joe's setlist.  Did everyone see how his right foot stomped, dog-eared, crinkled, and literally tore into the setlists while he was tearing into his notorious solos?! If it is, it's irons out and cleans up swell!

And I am aghast you did not turn to your CD for reference! It cannot be possible you left without one!!! tongue ...It can't...Can it?

It probably isn't his, because you're right, that one was pretty mangled. Maybe Ron's. We certainly brought home all cds. Much easier to refer to the set lists for the names when doing the video uploads because they are in order. Not as familiar yet with these songs so need all the help I can get smile

Photographs from the Baked Potato. Lighting was horrible and didn't want to disturb them with a flash so not the best but it does give a representation of the place

There's a bonus hidden track. Go to 10 min on New York Song's track. This is a favorite of the band. Any guesses?
Rick

I got my CD today and just finished listening to it for the 1st time.  Great CD!  Noticed the bonus track and was wondering what it might be titled.  Based on your comment I'm no longer guessing it is an improvised song.  Don't recognize it though, so any info would be graet.

Thanks...

It's a cover of Weldon Irvine's 1972 Mr. Clean. This has been played by RCFP at the previous gigs at the Baked Potato with much variation so it is a work in progress. Here's a sample from the show a year ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii3yCpBZ1xM

Not a bad bunch of pictures considering the lighting in places like that.  A lot of the pictures I took back in Joe's small club days will never see the light of day because they were so bad (cameras have become a lot better today but they still have limitations).

I have a lumix, too, and usually set it on manual when seeing Joe but I have never tried that in a place like the Spud - would be interesting to see how it worked.

Thanks for sharing these - some nice ones here.

Sandy

p.s. Will you be at Joe's show in Maryland in May?  Maybe we can compare "notes"?

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.

Re: We Want Grooove

Thanks for the comments, Sandy, especially considering your level of expertise. We will be at the Hippodrome. Got lucky with front row seats, and will definitely be bringing the little camera along. Would love to meet you.

On another note, here is "Dope On A Rope" Second night, second set, second song.  One of my most favorites. Really funky and an incredible back and forth exchange between Joe and Ron. Helen, Rick's wife, and I sat on the side, raised one level up. Perfect spot to see Joe and the camera could just sit on the table with an extra battery propped under its front to angle it slightly. That way I could just sit back and enjoy and not have to concentrate on holding it steady.

Re: We Want Grooove

And now for something completely different. Here's Octopus-e from Renato's view.  Sorry it's a bit shaky at first, first song first set was trying to get the camera in the best position.

It hits my musical bulls eye with the jazz/rock improvisations and the funk. The funk is righteous! Now the othe question is how does Joe do all this?I mean every project solo or otherwise are just so excellent.

That is so funny, we both pick the same song to post within moments of each other. But definitely not surprising since it was definitely a highlight of the night. Good to have it from two different angles. Hmm, which will be next? smile
