Topic: Aerosmith's new album...
Anybody here a fan of Aerosmith? Anybody keen on the new album??
I frequent the Aeroforceone forums but don't post (seeing as you have to be a paid member of the fan club to post!! It's not that I don't love Aerosmith enough, I've just never got around to signing up and the community is very intense at times!!)
The jist of the conversation is usually that the album is rubbish and so is its predecessor, Just Push Play, released ~11 years ago.
Where I stand on it is:
- There's a handful of stand-out songs on the album: LUV XXX, Oh Yeah, Beautiful, Tell Me, Street Jesus, Out Go the Lights and Lover A Lot is okay.
- The bonus tracks that were available to the majority of the world and the songs where Joe Perry takes the lead vocal are just utter trash and a waste of the electricity/other resources and 'talent' that were used to put them together.
- Just Push Play was a better album in that there is consistency (and I actually really like that album in spite of what anyone else says about it, if I have to throw one Aerosmith album in the trash can completely it's Nine Lives!!). This album doesn't flow. It's very, very easy to pick songs off it.
- Two songs, "Shakey Ground" and "I'm Not Talkin'" that were bonus tracks, even though they are covers, are more worthy of a place on the main album than the majority of the album's A side tracks.
- "Legendary Child" recycles way too many lyrics and is just way too commercial. Terrible first single choice.
- "Another Last Goodbye"... Steven Tyler's voice, he sounds like a strangled kitten! Painful to listen to at best.
I still like the album overall, but it feels like a collection of songs with no direction so I don't really want to call it an album!
Anyone wanna chime in on this one?
