RIP Meat Loaf at age 74, cause unknown. I never was a huge fan but then I watched that concert in Australia on AXS and understood why he does have so many fans worldwide. It is a tremendous show, they pulled out all the stops. I will see if I can find it and post on what are you listening to right now
Unfortunately I don’t think MeatLoaf enjoyed great health in recent years.
Saw him at Birmingham NEC @ 1980.
Still got Bat out of Hell on vinyl somewhere.
Reunited with Jim Steinman.

I last saw Meatloaf at Newcastle City Hall in 1988; at the time he was unbelievably between record contracts but toured a 10th anniversary of Bat Out of Hell. What I remember, with a smokin' hot band behind, he held the hall in thrall for nearly 3 hours and was at the top of his game. That was the last show I attended, and that's how I remember him. Maybe I missed out a few years later when Bat II came out, but not long after, when recording devices and social media rose, people seemed to revel in deriding lesser performances, but at least my memories and joy remain untainted of a truely one-off talent.
Procol Harum frontman Gary Brooker has died aged 76, his band has confirmed. The singer, pianist and composer had been receiving treatment for cancer before dying peacefully at home on Saturday.
Brooker led the band for more than five decades and during that time he helped write and was lead vocals on their 13 albums. In 1977, A Whiter Shade Of Pale was named joint winner alongside Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody as Best British Pop Single 1952–1977 at the Brit Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.
Brooker also collaborated with many great artists including writing and singing for Eric Clapton’s band and with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings. He also rubbed shoulders with the Beatles as he toured with Ringo’s All-Starrs, and contributed to solo projects for Paul McCartney and for George Harrison, who guested on one of Gary’s four solo albums.
Mark Lanegan, singer of the grunge band Screaming Trees, has died aged 57.
The musician was also a member of rock bands Queens of the Stone Age and The Gutter Twins and collaborated with artists such as Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain.
A statement posted on Lanegan’s official Twitter account said he died at his home in Killarney, Ireland on Tuesday morning.
Big, big shock this morning to hear on the news that Foo Fighter's Taylor Hawkins has died, age 50. No cause as yet has been released.
I should add this one... sadly
David William Kearney, known as Guitar Shorty, was an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He was known for his explosive guitar style and wild stage antics. Credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty recorded and toured from the 1950s until the 2020s
Born: September 8, 1939, Houston, Texas, United States

As closing down for the evening, just seen the news that Olivia Newton_John has lost her long battle with cancer, aged 73. Her legacy will always be as Sandy in Grease, before her album breakthrough Physical in the early 1980s.
Before all that though, she cut her teeth in the UK, coming from Australia in the 1960s and backing the likes of Cliff Richard & The Shadows (Olivia's voice is heard as "Marie" in the Shads' version of the hit "The Day I Met Marie". In the early 1970s, she worked wth fellow Aussie performer, writer & producer John farrar and had several country-tinged hits in the Uk charts before relocating Stateside and produced the American #1 I Honestly Love You. (Farrar also co-wrote several of the movie songs for Grease.)
Sadness upon sadness, Lamont Dozier has died at 81. Condolences and praises pouring out from all over the world, including Diana Ross (10 #1 HITS from Holland-Dozier-Holland), Smokey Robinson, Brian Wilson, Carole King…
The Great songwriters’ songs shall live on!!!
Rock ON & Keep The Faith,

Woke up this morning to the sad news that one of my earliest sports heroes, Kansas City Chiefs QB and broadcaster Len Dawson, has passed away after a short time in hospice care. Lenny is one of the few people inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame twice, once as a player and once as a broadcaster.
One of my most indelible memories of Lenny was watching him call the plays in Hank Stram's famous "open huddle"...

My local paper the Kansas City Star has a great write-up about him, as you would expect:

One of the most iconic photos of Lenny was of him smoking a cigarette and drinking a Fresca on the sidelines during Super Bowl I:

They called him Lenny the Cool.
Requiescat in pace.
Sad news hearing about Queen Elizabeth’s passing. She and my Mom shared the same name and born the same year. A grand woman indeed!
Very sad news about our dear Queen.
Somehow you thought she’d go on for ever.
Seventy years in the top job, a life of service, carried out with dignity and grace.
RIP - you deserve it.
Lester…

We were stunned yesterday by the news. At 12:45, television broke the news that she was comfortable, and doctors were in attendance but at 6:30pm the news broke that she'd passed.
Today, you can feel a very subdued atmosphere.
Nothing more to add to Lester's comments.
Dan McCafferty (14-10-1946 - 8-11-2022) R.I.P.
Sad news earlier today, the passing of Nazareth's legendry vocalist Dunfermline born William Daniel McCafferty at the age of 76. McCafferty was the band's lead vocalist from their founding back in 1968 until he was forced to retire, at least from live performances in 2013, principally with COPD and then a burst stomach ulcer. In fact, he released new music, a solo project, as recently as 2019.

R.I.P. Wilko (John Peter Wilkinson) Johnson: 12 July 1947- 21st Nov 2022
Very, very sad news today that Wilko Johnson passed at home on Monday evening. The musician found fame with the 1970s pub-rock band Dr Feelgood, and later played with Ian Dury before embarking on a four-decade solo career.
Ten years ago, he survived what was initially diagnosed as a terminal case of pancreatic cancer: Johnson refused chemotherapy to embark on a farewell tour. "The decision was quite easy - chemotherapy could do no more than extend my life for a relatively short period and I thought I'd just rather enjoy the health that was left to me," he told BBC Radio.
However, later tests discovered that the guitarist's pancreatic cancer was in fact a rare and less aggressive neuroendocrine tumour. He underwent a radical, 11-hour operation that removed his pancreas, spleen and parts of his stomach and intestines, and was declared cancer-free in 2014. Wilko continued to play live until last month, hosting his final gig at London's
Shepherd's Bush Empire on 18 October.
John Peter Wilkinson was born in Canvey Island, Essex, on 12 July 1947. He attended the selective grammar Westcliff High School, Southend, before reading English language and literature at Newcastle University. He bought his first guitar when he was 18 and began to perfect the playing style for which he would become famous. Like many of his generation, he took the hippy trail to India before returning to work for a brief spell as an English teacher.
But music was his first love and he began playing with an outfit called the Pigboy Charlie Band. The band changed their name to Dr Feelgood, an American slang term for a doctor willing to prescribe mind-altering drugs. A recording deal with United Artists came in 1974 and the Feelgoods quickly released their first single, Roxette, written by Johnson. It defined what would become the familiar Feelgood sound: Singer Lee Brilleaux snarling into the microphone while a black-clad Johnson prowled around the stage, pulverising his guitar and affecting an eyeball-bulging stare. Wilko's playing style, based on that of Mick Green, of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates, enabled him to play a mixture of lead and rhythm guitar at the same time. The band recorded two studio albums, Down by the Jetty (1974) and Malpractice a year later.
But they were essentially at their blistering best on stage so there was little surprise when Stupidity, recorded live at gigs in Sheffield and Southend, reached the top of the UK album charts. Johnson was to record just one more album with the Feelgoods, Sneakin' Suspicion, but his relationship with Brilleaux was becoming stormy. He and the singer quarrelled over the album's track listing and Johnson and the band parted. "I didn't leave," he insisted. "They threw me out and told the newspapers I had quit."
In 1980 he joined the Blockheads and played on Laughter, the last album Ian Dury made with his band. However, Dury's increasingly erratic behaviour - fuelled by drugs and alcohol - led to rows with Johnson, although he co-wrote the album's only single, Superman's Big Sister.
When Dury disbanded the Blockheads, Johnson resisted attempts by promoters to get him to form a new Dr Feelgood and instead continued with his Wilko Johnson Band. For the ensuing three decades the outfit, with the odd line-up change, was seldom off the road. They recorded a number of albums, none of which were commercially successful, but the band's natural habitat was on the stage. Johnson's wife Irene, a former childhood sweetheart, died of cancer in 2004. It was a blow that led him to continual feelings of depression that he only managed to shake off when playing live.
In January 2013 it was announced that Johnson had pancreatic cancer. He decided to refuse any chemotherapy so he could continue performing as long as possible. He set off on what he described as the ultimate farewell tour having been given just 10 months to live, with Johnson himself joking that it would be embarrassing if the tour extended into 2014. But the prognosis was pessimistic. Having recorded the album Going Back Home with The Who singer Roger Daltrey - "I thought that was going to be the last thing I ever did," - he underwent an 11-hour operation to remove a tumour and a number of internal organs. When he appeared at the Q Awards in Oct 2014, he announced he was clear of cancer and that he was having to come to terms with the idea that his death was not imminent and that he was going to live on.
And a great extra 8 years we've had. Wilko will be a much-missed figure on the Uk music scene.
Irene Cara Escalera (March 18, 1959 – November 25, 2022) R.I.P.
Soundtracks became especially "big news" in the 1980s, and the undisputed "Queen" had to be Irene Cara who passed on Friday, aged 63,
Putting her achievements in context; in Fame, as Coco Hernandez, she sang both the title song "Fame" and the film's other single, "Out Here on My Own". These songs helped make the film's soundtrack a chart-topping, multi-platinum album. Further history was made at the Academy Awards that year: It was the first time that two songs from the same film and sung by the same artist were nominated in the same category. Thus, Cara had the opportunity to be one of the few singers to perform more than one song at the Oscar ceremony; "Fame," written by Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford, won the award that year. Cara earned Grammy Award nominations in 1980 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical. Billboard named her Top New Single Artist,
In 1983, Cara reached the pea of her music career with the title song for the movie Flashdance: "Flashdance... What a Feeling", which she co-wrote with Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey. Cara penned the lyrics to the song with Keith Forsey while riding in a car in New York heading to the studio to record it; Moroder composed the music. Cara admitted later that she was initially reluctant to work with Giorgio Moroder because she had no wish to invite further comparisons with another artist who worked with Moroder, Donna Summer. But the collaboration paid off and became a hit in several countries, attracting several awards for Cara. She won the 1983 Academy Award for Best Song (Oscar), 1984 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, 1984 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and American Music Awards for Best R&B Female Artist and Best Pop Single of the Year
Christine Anne McVie (born Christine Perfect) - 12 July 1943 - 30th Nov 2022 R.I.P.
Christine McVie, who played with Fleetwood Mac and wrote some of their most famous songs, has died aged 79, her family has said. The British singer-songwriter was behind hits including Little Lies, Everywhere, Don't Stop, Say You Love Me, and Songbird. She died peacefully at a hospital in the company of her family, a statement said.
Born Christine Perfect, McVie married Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie and joined the group in 1971. Fleetwood Mac was one of the world's best known rock bands in the 1970s and '80s. Their 1977 album Rumours - inspired by the break-ups of the McVies and the band's other couple, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks - became one of the biggest selling of all time, with more than 40 million copies sold worldwide. McVie left Fleetwood Mac after 28 years in 1998 but returned in 2014.
