Re: R.I.P. Thread

I've watched countless episodes of Ca. Gold and wasn't aware that he had retired this past November. 67 is too young to pass, he never had much of a chance to enjoy his retirement.

Shoot! His job WAS better than retirement.  Never saw this guy in my previous California residencies.  Found him post late night work, bored channel surfing, paused on him, but switched away...he kept coming back and finally reeled me in when he was somewhere I had been before.  He didn't make boring, mundane things very interesting always (but he COULD), and yet somehow he was tremendously entertaining.  "This is SPECTACULAR"!!! When he said that, he wasn't kidding (himself at least! lol).  Bet that's what he's saying right now!

A too short love affair for me...

Re: R.I.P. Thread

Oh man, just read that Earl Weaver passed away while he and his wife were on the Orioles Fantasy Cruise. One of the all-time great managers, and as cantankerous as they come. I'd say RIP Earl, but that just doesn't sound like Earl's style.

An all time great baseball club manager.  Definitely wanted him in your team's dugout and not facing him in the other dugout!  Saw him in action even.

Re: R.I.P. Thread

Rip Earl Weaver.
Another great one passed today. The Man is gone at 92. Musial had been suffering from Alzheimers. Few, if any will achieve what he did. Certainly the greatest player in the Cardinals history, and one of the greatest players ever.

Re: R.I.P. Thread

I loved Earl Weaver and will miss him, but Stan Musial's passing hits me in the gut as he was symbolic of Cardinal Nation.  At 92 he lived a long life and I'm sure it's spring training wherever he is now, playing alongside all the greats of his beloved generation.  R.I.P. Stan the Man.

Great director.  They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Yes, certainly a gut punch to anyone really interested in real baseball.  Stan "The Man" Musial is always The Pope amongst Cardinals for sure.  My Dad's player, such that St. Louis was his team, enticed away from the geographically more sensible Yankees or Red Sox growing up.

Re: R.I.P. Thread

Back when this song came out my gang of friends used to have dance parties mainly at one girl's house and this would be one of the coveted "slow dance" songs.  This one was written by Reg and I listened to it Saturday coming home from Memphis.  It's off the Songs of My Life playlist.
