Re: 2012 Album of the year so far.

I agree with DTTD, Albert Cummings, JST, and Oli. I'll add Albert Castiglia's "Living the Dream". It's hard to pick a favorite, and maybe because it's his last, but "Show of Strength" by Michael Burks is stunningly rich with guitar and vocals as only Michael could create. Such a loss sad    Cathy

The Whippoorwill is light years better than anything I've heard in a long, long time.  They've been compared to all the great southern rock bands, but with this album ALL the stars lined up and guess what?  Their music has evolved into a sound totally their own.  Maybe ten albums in my lifetime can lay claim to being perfectly constructed.  This is one of them.  Every song can stand alone and when was the last time your favorite song changed with the next one, from beginning to end?

I agree with some already posted - Joe, Walter, Oli, Nimmo Bros but I have got to add the new album "House in the Woods" by Henrik Freischlader Band. Bought it in Munich on Monday and cant stop playing it - perfectly captures his live experience but its 10 studio tracks.

Just back from the second concert of the new tour with the new album "House in the Woods" and the DVD "Show No 47" as well.
Too early to comment the album. Too impressed from the show. The band rocked at its best. Setlist was absolutely amazing (maybe 4 songs from former albums, everything else was a stunning surprise). Sound was incredible good. Audience was great. A great evening.
Chapeau!

The one from the Outlaws "It's About Pride" deserves mention on any top of the year list. Absolutely stunning.

Picked up Three Skulls and the Truth yesterday. Goes to the top of my list.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

The Recorded by ... is my favourite too. Will be hard to top that album.
The new album House in the woods is a good one but some of the songs could be a bit longer - just like they played them live. Some good grooves and very rocky.
Love Henrik's first and self produced DVD Show No 47. Hot stuff.

Re: 2012 Album of the year so far.

I love Henrik, but the new album is disappointing.  I've found myself listening more to Gregor Hilden and prefer his playing style.

Heard the new album yesterday again and think that the songs were much better live. When the band played the songs live they played them longer and got into a real good groove with fine solos of Henrik and Mr. Mo on hammand as well as some good tribal drumming of Björn Krüger. And if I hear the songs from the album the song is about to end when I get into it. Live is very often hard to top.

Saw Gregor Hilden a few times live with different musicians. He's not bad. But he doesn't rock me if I see/hear him play. Actually I can't really remember his voice or a special song. So it seems, Gregor Hilden is not my cup of tea.

To my knowledge Gregor does not sing and usually employs other to do the vocals.  I know you love high energy music and Hilden falling under the jazzier soulful side of the blues wouldn't meet that criteria.  His music fits my mood these days though.  Henrik will no doubt come back with a killer album...he's too good.

Lots of great albums already mentioned. I'm going to add this one, Wilson T.King 'The Last of the Analogues'. This was recommended to me on Friday, I downloaded it from Bandcamp and it's a stunning album in my opinion. Features Wayne Proctor from Oli Browns Band on drums.
