Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

If things go well the coverage of the final Grand Am of the season will be going live around 12 noon est US. http://www.glaciertv.com/

This will be all about survival as the Mustangs are terribly slower than the Prototypes here.
My setup is pushing like a pig will heavy fuel load so I will have my hands full.

About a minute away from joining the session.  If anyone tries viewing and they aren't up, sorry, they have had some issues recently.

I'm also not sure which scheme they have loaded for me so it may be the Beacon one or the AFTERGLOW one.

I went there and as soon as the race vid ran there you were being followed by the commentators for most of a lap! The paint scheme is cool . That looks hairy with the prototypes mixed in. Running p2!

Wow! That was some idiot move that punted you out of the race. He ran right into you. Tough luck. Go give him a virtual thumping.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

Yeah, he will certainly get no quarter from me wherever or whenever we get around each other in the future.  Things were going well up until that point.  Hectic but well lol.  The car was coming to me very well as the fuel burned off and I had managed the throttle well enough that I likely was not going to have to pit.  i was waiting for the later stages to start pushing and I feel I had a good chance at getting my first Grand Am win.  It was just so unnecessary for him to pull a deal like that.  He was gaining nothing at all.  I feel bad for the other DP that got caught up.  If he could have missed me, I would have been able to carry on.

Oh well, I guess that why it is called racing instead of winning.  I think I did get some air time on the broadcast and maybe got the scheme content into the minds of a few viewers, so not a total loss anyhow.  Well that and all the fun I had until the moment took place.
Thanks for tuning in Rick and I'm glad they got the coverage worked out.

I think I'm going to sit back and check out the NASCAR race at NHMS and try to calm down a bit, before sending him a PM and asking what the beeep was he thinking lol.

Have fun

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

On a higher note, I ended up 5th in the CESCS race at VIR on Saturday.  I also got spun from behind in that race by another MX-5 driver but the outcome was much less of an event than the Lime Rock incident.  It did set me back a bit as I lost a few positions but I was able to catch up during a caution period.
I ended up a lap down after pitting but got a wave-around under caution and went back on the lead lap.  After the last caution we went green with two laps to go and was in 10th or 11th.  The twp laps were rather hectic and I wiggled my way through a few close moments to make it to 5th.
This finish has allowed me to be 2nd in the ST class standings, just 12 points out of 1st.  A good rebound after my self-inflicted issue at Homestead.

Up next for this series is Mid-Ohio on Oct. 6th followed by Road America on the 20th.  The AFTERGLOW scheme will return for both of these events.  I hope they get the coverage for those sorted out because both of those tracks always makes for a fun race.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

Good deal. The commentators even remarked on what a good race you were running at Lime Rock and what an idiot that driver was. You got good coverage while it lasted since they were covering you gaining on p1 for quite a while with running interval graphics and lap times. It was the best race on the track.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

Hi Lizzee. Hmm another KY neighbor.  I'm starting to see a trend here lol.   I'm waiting to see if I have qualified for a race coming up tomorrow. It is another multi-class series and I race in the quickest class for this one.  This is another endurance series with races being around 2 hours or so.  The series is running the Zolder GP circuit for 300 kilometers.  Three classes of cars and they expect a full field of 43 cars altogether. At this point, I'm waiting to see if my time is quick enough to make the field.  The series has been being broadcast live but I'm as yet sure if this round will be.  I will check into that and will post back later.  I hope they do show it as I will want to watch it if I don't make it in.

Have fun

Well, I'm going to miss it tomorrow live. Oktoberfest put on by the local German club. Real Oompah band from the old country, real German bier flown in by the keg and real German brats. What's not to like? Hoping you get in Speed. big_smile

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

hmmm I wonder what a tuba would sound like through a Leslie?  Have a great time Rick!

They have had so many drivers attempt to qualify for the event that they likely won't have the results until in the morning.  These first sessions are to gain entry into the race.  Then everyone form each class who makes it in will have a qualifying session to set the starting grid.
I made another attempt Saturday evening and gained a little over a second on my time, so that is good. So far, so good...

If all goes well I will be running this new scheme for the DTTD album, http://www.flickr.com/photos/cj2012/8038161172/

The green flag should be around 3 pm est / 7 pm GMT and hopefully the broadcast will have no issues and will be viewable, live, at glaciertv.com

I mixed it up in traffic during an open practice session and got a taste of what to expect with running around the other classes of cars.  This is going to be a wild ride lol.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

Ok, I made it into the event.  Now the hard part begins lol.  Of course, it is also the fun part.  So far, the broadcast situation looks good so the coverage should be a go.  I'm as yet sure of what time the broadcast will be up as they may be showing the qualifying sessions prior to the race with the green going out at 3 pm est.
With these type races my main goal is always to make it to the checkers.  Two hours of intensity awaits as there is nowhere for the slower class cars to hide.  The Zolder track was release just a few short weeks ago so it is still very new to all of the drivers.  The track looks great and has an amazing flow to it.  It also has a good number of sections that will easily ruin your lap.  That is even without traffic.

I'm ready to get it rolling!

On a more personal note.

You may notice the MMI8B decal under the windshield in front of the passenger side. This is in honor of my old racing pal Bob Dixon who passed away this past Wednesday. I ran my first simracing laps at his house in Lexington over a decade ago. He helped me get my first computer setup, passed down to me his first steering wheel system for me to race with, gave me my first copy of Photoshop and helped me learn to do the paint schemes.  He took me to my first Indy 500 and I took him to his first NASCAR race. We had many fun times at tracks from Indy to Daytona and many hours of racing with each other online through the past few years. He ran under the tag of 8BALL and his team name was MMI, thus the MMI8B decal.
Bob had been a quadriplegic since 1981 after a car accident. He recently spent close to 6 months in a hospital in Lexington and had just made it back home a few days ago. His passing has been a shock as he seemed to be doing so much better. I was at his house last weekend trying to figure out an issue with his computer sound and my wife spent most of Monday afternoon hanging out with him. He was one of my wife's friends since she was a young child. Everyone who knew him are saddened to see him go. He was looking forward to watching this race today. So I wanted to have his spirit represented on the car for the race. No matter the outcome of the race, I will carry his feelings of just get out there, do the best you can and most of all, have fun! Will do Mr. B

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

That could have gone better.  In the early laps I caught one to the tall curbs in the first chicane and bent the steering geometry.  Made a pitstop for repairs and it didn't get get quite straightened out enough, so I had to pit again.  Two laps down early and I couldn't make them up.  I did manage 7th in class and had a blast trying to make up time.

I will be looking for much better results for the next one.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

I'm running in the CESCS at Mid-Ohio.  I'll be running the Beacon Theatre scheme again on the MX-5.

Earlier today iRacing had one of the special World Tour events. It was the Talladega 500 in the Sprint Cup cars.
nearly one thousand drivers joined in as we were split into 43 car groups for each race.
I was in split 5 and rode the first 87 laps in the top 10, until a driver lost control and caught up me and a few others.
After repairs I rejoined the race in 38th position and good bit of damaged parts on the car. I was able to draft a bit with others who had damage and kept gaining positions due to others having issues.
I made it to the finish 11 laps down and in 22nd. I ran a new Driving Towards The Daylight scheme for this one.
I will get some pics posted later.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

Well Chuck, I haven't had a chance to get to a computer during the times you're racing. Please keep posting, the times. It looks really interesting and I would like to see a live race. Are you playing this on a game console like XBox or Playstation? Or do you play on your pc? Please forgive me I'm not a gamer but have teenage nephews that are smile Just curious how this all works, it seems like it would be a blast! I watched the You Tube and it's just like watching a race, and I am assuming for you as a player you see the dash of the race car the track and everything as if you're in the driver's seat?  Thanks for sharing, please keep us posted on your races!

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

I'm also a keen sim racer and will answer your questions Lizzee. Judging by Chuck's comments and his avitar he's racing on PC using a sim called Iracing.

http://www.iracing.com/

It's a subscription based system that allows players world wide to race each other in organised events and leagues. The tracks are laser scanned to a very exacting standard, so you get to drive some of the most famous tracks around the world as they are in real life. I race the Australian V8 Supercars myself and get together with about 30 other guys once a week for a great night of racing. It gets the blood pumping and is the closest thing you can get to real world racing without burning a hole in your wallet and without the possibilty of serious injury. smile

You race from the cockpit view as you would in real life, you can easily damage the car from contact or blow your motor if you over rev too much. You adjust many parts of the car's setup eg, tyre pressures, spring rates etc. Everything you would do in a real race car.

Well worth getting into if you're a motor racing fan.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

Hey Jay,  It's great to find another simracer around here!  Thanks for filling Lizzee in on some details of the system.  Which nights are you running the V8SC?  I've been spectating a few races recently and I'll try to keep an eye out for you.  I hope to get back into running the V8 races more often.  Hope to see you out there soon.

Re: Simracing for Bonamassa (and related endeavors)

So cool, just saw some of you car shemes on Flickr posts... very cool idea. I will have to check out more about his "Sim Racing" stuff when I get outta work. Looks entertaining and like the idea of designing the car and having to actually take care of it.... very cool and learned something new today at work (just not about work!!!!) LOL. Cheers, Jason
