Re: Zeppelin DVD / CD in November?

well, I owe DaveW an apology, stupid knee jerk reaction on my part (different topic). After listening a little more and hearing some overall reviews here I'm going to buy the Blu-Ray tomorrow. Even Best Buy will have it, how long do I have to stand in line on Black Friday? that remains to be seen.

There is NO item worth that price Tres. I'd wait to miss being trampled.  The vid on the big screen was beyond cool. Having those guys, less one but very ably represented by the son, on stage and with all faculties intact to perform was a rare treat. A "best of" but live.

Re: Zeppelin DVD / CD in November?

Bought the BluRay/CD/DVD package.  Watching the BluRay right now.  STUNNING!  Beyond stunning.  Haven't been together for over 30 years, and then after 6 weeks of rehearsal they can do this?  I'm . . . . . . speechless.

When RP nixed a reunion tour saying 65 year olds can't go back in time and pull it off, he was either lying or just plain crazy.  There is nothing retro or artificial about this  Go buy this immediately!

Godamn!

Guarded optimism here....you're right, when they did the O2 reunion, the rumor mill went ablaze about them doing a tour with Jason, and it was Plant that strongly nixed the idea.

Fast forward - over the past couple months, Plant has been very prominent in promoting the Celebration Day release, attending the interviews with the media, the premieres, etc. At the same time, Page has been quite vocal in stating that he has a lot of post Zeppelin material to record, and very much wants to get on the road and play in 2013....

As a long time Zep fan, I'd like nothing better than to see them get together and work on new material with Jason behind the kit...a tour would be the icing on the cake, but at least to get them working together in studio would be tremendous!

Not to knock Page at all, but it bears mention that as I listen to this release, I can't help but reflect on just how good Joe Bonamassa is. He's not the writer that Pagey is, but as a player, he's simply untouchable!

I like to think I'm envious of players like Vai and Petrucci...but then who wrote Whole Lotta Love...who makes me want to pick up the guitar and play...rather than yawn after thirty minutes of technical exercises?
Maybe Joe treads the fine line...I'd rather he did more solos like Song of Yesterday, Happier Times and Bird On A Wire rather than those speed runs that litter them.
Page was a master in the studio...I believe it was a big mistake handing HTWWW over to the Caveman after near ten years of listening to it...he made it completely fatiguing to the ears...which is another reason why I am so pleased with this release. Carruthers and Page have done a fine job. Hats off...

I agree....Joe has the ability to do, and the taste not to overdo, which makes his work such an absolute pleasure to listen to. This release was really done well....at times, I wished that Plant was just a bit more prominent in the mix, but....this is, after all, Led Zeppelin! Page, in addition to being a good and prolific songwriter, is a wizard in the studio...he's meticulous, he knows what he's after, and he doesn't settle for less. It was a long wait for this release, but well worth the wait.

Re: Zeppelin DVD / CD in November?

Just watched for the second time.  Glad they did it, but understand why no more.

Page, Jones, and Bonham together can blow away any band alive, any day they see fit, probably 3 nights a week.

Plant is done in terms of that type of vocal power.  His days of making loud music have been over for some time now, and he knows it.

He can huff and puff all he wants about not wanting to relive the past, truth is, he couldn't if he wanted to.

I will remember them fondly as they were.  Led Zeppelin has decided to go out with dignity and their legacy intact.  The Stones and the Who could take a lesson here.

Jagger this means you!

A little harsh, imo

I thought Paul McCartney's vocal performance at the Olympic Concert was a disappointment. When you've been singing your whole life - it's just a matter of time, when your 'instrument' will start to falter.

Plant can still perform, imo   but as you and your voice mature - you have to adjust, to how best to use it.

Re: Zeppelin DVD / CD in November?

Brack, you are quite correct.  I actually applaud Plant's decision not to do it and simply embarass himself for money.  Those songs, and people's memories of them, demand a certain level of vocal power and it is no longer there. I am looking at you Roger Daltry.

Plant's vocals with Zeppelin were nearly always run through effects or multi-tracked.  On bootlegs too, you can hear chorus or harmonizer.

I don't mind Plant not doing a tour, what I do mind is his holier-than-thou posturing, as if to denigrate the others for wanting to go forward.

They should do what David Coverdale said, get 3 or 4 vocalists and make it a celebration of the songs.  They might not fill stadiums, but it would sound great.

Re: Zeppelin DVD / CD in November?

Most of the vocalists i grew up with, are over 60 now - and almost all have lost a %age of their vocal power - sad, but that's life!

There are exceptions to the rule - but they had the good sense, over the years, to look after their instrument.

Uh yeah. Howabout Glenn Hughes? Now there is one of the very few who still are just as good in their 60's. Who else is?

Paul Rogers  imo  - different styles of course.

Re: Zeppelin DVD / CD in November?

indeed, daughter was here for the holiday and asked what I wanted for Xmas. Santa will be bringing it in short order, I can wait another month. My son reminded me that we already have a DVD, the extra disc from the Mothership package. So we got it out Wed night and watched nearly all of it. I swear I didn't know it came with the CD. I thought it was excellent, especially Robert's vocals. A lot of it is early on, you can tell by how Jimmy's hair changes through the songs. Was he getting a perm before some of those concerts? Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed it and got me even more hyped for Celebration.
