Topic: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

Is there someone out there that can tab this lick at 6:30?

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

Hey- thats one of Joe's most used licks back then... it's actually pretty simple (in concept)...

it's only:

--------12---------------
--15(b)---15p12--------
--------------------------
--------------------------
--------------------------
--------------------------

He just plays it wicked fast over and over again... with a wah pedal (which makes it sound even faster for some reason)

Hope this helps smile

thanks!
The fingering is tricky coming back to that pull off.
Do you know other licks like this Joe does?  maybe we could start a thread with different licks?  ANDY live has some great runs in it

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

Well, one of my current favorites is one he's been playing a lot live now (especially in Just Got Paid- thats where I first heard the lick and I needed to figure it out.)

it goes something like this:

-------12----------------12---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-15(b)---12--15--15(b)----15p12----15p12---15p12--15p12---12-------------------------------
-------------------------------------14--------14-------14-------14---14-12------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------14-12----------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------14-12\10-----
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thats not the exact lick, but it's one of my favorite embellishments on it... he also plays something like this in Bridge to Better Days (studio) right when the solo changes keys...

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

I just got a show that has Just Got Paid on it (Bald Hill Mountain).  Great tune.  Do you have this show?

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

What version (which show) of Just Got Paid are you getting that lick from?

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

I'm not really getting it from any particular show- its almost a mix of 2 shows: Shank Hall on 12/10/06 and La Zona Rosa on 7/22/06 (but mostly Shank Hall)... its my interpretation of it (I hate playing the same things as are on the record)- I could tab out the actual lick for you from the Shank Hall show (he just adds on a couple of notes after the initial bend to E that I have there)...

I actually don't have the Bald Hill Mountain version- what set list did Joe play there?

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

Hey guys (and girls) just remembered another awesome lick from JB-

This one's from Stone Cold Hearted (Bloodline)... its at approx 2:55:

---------16-19-16-----------16-19-16-----------
--16-17-----------17-16-17------------17-16---
----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------

It's really not as hard as it looks or sounds to play up to speed- just make sure you pick every note as cleanly as you can (thats the big thing about this lick- the picking needs to be extremely clean for it to sound good)...

Enjoy!

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

^^^ Whats the key? G#?  Or is it A because the gitboxes are down a 1/2 step?

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

Its actually tabbed out in standard tuning- in that case it's probably in E major... great lick though, one of my favorites!

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

kwsjb,  Are you sure theres a bend and a pull of in that lick you pstoed up at the beginning?  I always play it without the bend and just that D note in the 15th fret b string.  and im pretty sure that he picks every note, I could be wrong tho.

Actually, you're right about that bend- that shouldn't be there- I mixed that up... sorry for the confusion... As for picking every note, I've heard him do it both ways, I prefer the sound of picking every note, but the pull-offs give it a different interesting texture...

Oh yeah, almost forgot- the actual lick (roughly) is this (this includes picking every note, no more pull-offs smile ):

----12---------12---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-15---12--15------15-12----15-12---15-12--15-12---12-------------------------------
----------------------------14-------14-------14-------14---14-12------------------------

Re: Can any Axe Slingers out there Tab a lick for me?

Yeah I prefer the picking every note as well.  Joe can somehow make it sound so fluent and natural, as if he were using pull offs to make a legato effect, but hes def picking every note, Its incredible how he does it, years and years of practice!    Its funny, I havent heard Jow use this lick in a really long time, I think hes really starting to stretch his boundaries even more so than before,  Hes really finding his own voice on the instrument.
Peace,
Conner
