Topic: Buffalo Show

Show was out of this world!  Can't believe that Joe kept it up for over 2 hours without a break.

Got a question on the really cool stage backdrop.  Kind of a rock wall sort of thing with constantly changing lighting.  I don't know if this is Joe's normal stage or Shea's people did it.  How was it done?

Glad you enjoyed the show!  That is Joe's normal stage.  Really cool back drop...

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Buffalo Show

If you took your screen door and multiplied  it by 60 by 80..... You would achieve our current backdrop....

Well that takes care of the back drop, now I just need some more talent up front...

I'll be heading to the PPAC show, in RI, Tuesday night. It will be the first time I've gotten a chance to see Joe live. I can not wait!

It certainly achieved the effect of a giant dust storm.  I was thinking bits of it were actually moving (lighting effects, no doubt), when I saw it at the Chicago Theatre last fall.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Buffalo Show

What a great show! First I would like to send a huge thank you to the entire J&R Adventures team, specifically Alex Martucci. I have read about others getting less than wonderful seats when they had free tickets. Well, the freebies I got on Wednesday night as a result of buying the Soliloquy litho were front row center! Actually, they were 2 rows in front of front row (they added 2 rows of chairs in the orchestra "pit" (actually just the space between front row and the stage). I was blown away!

As for the concert itself, incredible! I may have been spoiled with the great seats, but it really does change the perspective of the show being that close. All of a sudden you see how playful Tal Bergman is, and how simple he makes the drumming look. It is effortless, or so it seems. After his solo following his trade-off exchange with Joe during Young Man's Blues, he throws his drum sticks to the crowd. I was lucky enough to catch one and wow is it chewed up! He pounds the sticks for sure! Also, he keeps the entire band laughing throughout the night. Carmine and Rick just laugh at his antics, and that joy is visible in their playing. Simply fantastic.

The highlight of the show for me was a priceless exchange between Joe and...his MOTHER! His parents made the trip up for the Buffalo show and were seated three seats to my right. During the intro for Woke Up Dreaming Joe was walking across the front of the stage. He stopped right in front of his mother to play a bit. She jumped up with her cell phone to take a few pics. Joe looked down at her, while still playing, smiled, and said, "No pictures, Mom." Then backed away with a huge grin! It was hilarious!

A last note is that Joe finished the show with Just Got Paid, but there was no Flying V. I know he used one of the Les Pauls, but I am unable to remember exactly which one. First time no Flying V was seen. No difference though, still tremendous (of course).

What a night!

I think I actually have a picture of this...I didn't realize it at first but after reading your post it clicked. I had met Joe's dad once at his guitar store....but I think this is the time you were alluding to.

That is it! Great shot, by the way...

Re: Buffalo Show

Kevin, how was the sound quality from the front row?
I was up in the balcony (3 rows of Mezz and then right behind that is what's called the balcony); I was dead centre 2nd row balcony.
We could see everything Joe did from where we were.
Didn't matter if he was downstage right where he spent a lot of time or upstage left with Tal we had a really good view.
The sound was a lot muddy for the first couple of songs up there, and then the sound tech showed up with a laptop and started adjusting but didn’t stay long enough.
The vocals were still lost in the mix a lot most of the night as was when Joe was playing rhythm.

Where the concert really stood out is when Joe turned up his guitar(s) from rhythm to lead,
His guitar just jumped out of the mix and he did those famous searing leads that we've all come to love.
(As always was a smorgasbord of guitars with his 3 ‘59s and the 60)

On Just Got Paid; I was standing for the whole encore and my paints were flapping from the sound volume on that song.
Thanks to ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin for two great tunes for Joe to marriage together

Overall a great show and effort put out by Joe and the boys; I have to try and get front row next time wink

-I would gladly see Joe in concert again

---------------

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

Re: Buffalo Show

Sound was awesome. Really not nearly as overpowering as I expected. It was really solid. My brother actually pointed out that we could really hear Carmine so much clearer than we could at other venues (Toronto and Cleveland) when we sat in the balcony and further back on the floor. It was something to hear Joe's foot tapping just as clear as the guitar during Woke Up Dreaming. Sorry if it sounds like I am rubbing it in, I was just so lucky to have those seats. Great sound throughout.

Cool to be able to hear stuff like that.

Yeah up in the belcony it was pretty much a ac/dc-Led Zep volume level; theatre's Front of house tech's sometimes just don't understand balance.... .
I missed out getting front rows for Toronto in Nov this year, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for 2013.

Those old halls were meant for unamplified voice and orchestra/band music and all seem to muddy up in the back now. This is the main reason I won't go to a show unless I can be seated center orchestra within the first dozen or so rows. It is that big a difference, but that is just me.

Re: Buffalo Show

While it's always really cool to have up front seats, sonically you get a better show by being in the middle or more towards the back of the theater. Sit near the soundboard and you'll see what I mean. A good sound man usually sets up his board where the acoustics are best.

Happy Fathers Day!

Re: Buffalo Show

I like this very atmospheric version of Dislocated Boy.  Wouldn't mind seeing it live, though I prefer the CD version.

(I always liked the original, and faster, version of Mountain Time, too.  Not that the slower concert version is bad, in any way.)

wow, that's great sound
really have to get a floor seat next time.
really makes a difference where you sit I guess.
