Topic: Erja Lyytinen

I travelled down to Kinross last night to see Erja Lyytinen and her band at The Green Hotel. I hadn't heard much of Erja at all before the gig so wasn't sure what to expect. I needn't have worried, it was a great night.
They played a 90 minute set of mainly their own material with some covers, It Hurts Me Too, Things 'bout Coming My Way & Soul Of A Man. Erja has a great band behind her and she herself produced some wonderful guitar work, especially with the slide, and she has a great voice too.
The only downside was the extremely poor turnout, only about 12 - 15 people turned up. Credit to the band, they laughed and joked about it and gave it their all on stage. I don't think trying to get the 'crowd' to sing along was a good idea though!
Erja stayed behind afterwards to chat, get photos taken and sign CDs. She's a very nice, down to earth person.
So if Erja is playing anywhere near you, I would recommend you go along to see her, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Re: Erja Lyytinen

I wondered what had happened to her. There were some great clips on youtube a few years ago (will try to find) when she toured as a 'package' with Oli and JST. I remember thinking she was pretty good then.

I asked a Finnish friend about her at the time - she'd never heard of her. sad

Re: Erja Lyytinen

Erja's one of my favourite musicians and I'll be seeing her again next week (4th time) at The Beaverwood Club. She's a class musician who puts on a great live show and a really nice lady as well. A real headshaker about the poor turnout in Kinross, but this kind of thing is something that you see and hear about far too many times. I often wonder why the locals don't support these shows for about £10 a ticket.

Erja's also got a new DVD out which is a show recorded in Helsinki last November. As Murray1903 has already said, don't hesitate and miss out if Erja and the band are playing anywhere close to home.
