If your freind is a blues lover theres buddy guys down town . lots of blues clubs on the northside but I dont know whats close to midway, but I am sure some one at the hotel can advise. Theres alot of clubs on the southside too. try http:illinoisenertainer.com

I don't think there's too much near Midway, and there are some rough areas not too far from there. Downtown is not too far away (10 to 15 minute cab ride, depending on traffic), and there are a bunch of Blues clubs, great restaurants, comedy clubs, etc. A web search should turn up whatever your friend's looking for.
