Re: Blackpool 5th April

Wow,cool-saw ads in Classic Rock at the time,it was Sloe Gin tour wasn't it? Fancied it cos it was at Morecombe (Blackpool's poorer cousin!) at The Platform-saw Wishbone Ash there and liked the venue, for all it's acoustic shortcomings- couldn't get anyone to go down with as we didn't know about him then-the 'unknown' and all that. The Academy at Newcastle was my first gig.

Come on you Blades!

Not Morecambe. The gig Joe was referring to was before the Morecambe gig (which we were at as well).

BTW, UTB indeed !! cool

Hi Idolbone - I think we were chatting in the afternoon - I had a Gibson-you might recognise Loz (wife) on my avatar ?  Didn't notice you after the show, must have been the Beanie !!  Anyway, fantastic show, a great way to sign off in the UK for the year.

M&G was great thanks - got the Guitar & various bits signed - Chatting to Joe just feels like chatting to an old friend rather than the hottest guitarist on the planet !!   Looking forward to seeing the pics of the tat when you get it done.

Re: Blackpool 5th April

After the gig, Joe (Bennett, not Bonamassa) and I had no idea where the tour bus might be, so we sort of gave up and wandered down to the front - got to see the sea at least once - then mooched about on the Comedy Carpet for a while. That wasn't there last time I was in Blackpool. Then we headed inland towards where we'd parked Hermione the Land Rover, looking out for a likely takeaway on the way. Walked past the Opera House again, then spotted what looked like flight cases being loaded onto a big truck down the next street.  Wandered down there, and round the corner were a couple of big posh coaches and a gaggle of people standing on the pavement. So we joined them and lo and behold, next person around the corner was Joe (Bonamassa, not Bennett)! So please accept my apologies, everyone who'd been waiting ages - we just happened to be at that end of the crowd, and when Joe turned to us it would've been rude to turn him down! Joe looked tired, as well he might - he'd just given over two thousand people over two hours of his heart and soul.

Re: Blackpool 5th April

We had a great time, parents as well. First time we've seen a JB show and it blew us all away.
I lost count of how many different guitars he used but they were all played brilliantly and the sound & production was excellent. Shame some silly cow in front of us decided to pay no attention to the show instead choosing to get pissed, getting up and down every 20 minutes to go and get pints and then deciding to bawl at the girl who was with them who was actually paying attention to the show.

Thanks Joe & band for an excellent night.

You DO get them don't you! I'm glad i  got my last loo visit in about 7-50 when we realised it was gonna be an 8pm start, but some go to gigs for the craic and a few pints, some to sit and take it all in,we'll probably never find the right balance,but,hey-ho. Glad you enjoyed it and always scout around the venue for tour buses beforehand, then you know where to go.

Come on you Blades!

During the twin-neck guitar/drum duel, just as Joe did the intro to Stairway...and Tal thumped the tubs with his hands...anyone hear someone shout 'Moby Dick!' ? That was me.... (sheepish)

Thanks, next time I will get there earlier and have a scout around.

Re: Blackpool 5th April

I first saw Joe in Manchester and the gig was awesome as you'd expect. As soon as the Blackpool tickets went on sale I got myself sorted again but obviously the gig was postponed on the day (Last October) I kept my tickets and had a nightmare trip back to Blackpool, but was determined to see him live again and wow. I thought he was brilliant and was surprised he's not suffering from RSI with the amount of guitar changes he had. Did anyone else think something was amiss when he slid the acoustic guitar across the stage floor to his wrangler? Was the kid too slow or did Joe just fancy a Pete Townsend moment?

The big difference I've seen over the last 12-months is that unlike Manchester, where Joe and the band just did number after number in a very tight set list. Blackpool saw Joe showcased more and giving us a demo on just how good he is in any style of play. You could have closed your eyes and listed to Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendrix, Slash et al as well as his own unique tone and style. Absolutley brilliant and I'm now convinced that he is the number 1 player in the world.

Now waiting for the new album

Doc. Have witnessed some of the very best including Clapton, Beck, Santana, Gilmour, Slick, Ronson, Stevie Ray, Prince, Slash, but in awe of JB's talent

Ah - that was you, was it? Always good to put a name to the voice...  Thought I might have spotted the Wishbone Ash Beanie but we were separated by an impenetrable queue for the loo at the time so I couldn't say hi. Then by the bus afterwards We took notice of the request to move on as soon as we'd got our stuff signed. There were all sorts of things I wanted to say to Joe, but all I managed was a fairly lame 'Best gig ever!'. Joe was gracious as always with 'Thank you man, that means a lot.' But wot a brilliant night!

Re: Blackpool 5th April

Yeah, thought with the Zep reference it would've been perfect! Same old story about what to say to Joe after gigs, think of LOADS before, get up close and it's all "Great show,er,you were great,er sign this please" kinda stuff! Wanted to ask if he could pop a bit of Steve Hacketts' Horizons into his acoustic thing later on this year, but hey ho.

You're not on any of Geoffs' 'after' pics are you,Keith?  (?)

Memory's shot, but i DO remember Joe the tale of the first time he played the town. After playing pubs and bars-this being 2004,Joe was amazed  to be playing in 'The Grand Theatre' in the town,a marked step up in his reckoning!

I could be wrong but I believe 2005 was the first time that he played in England. Michael can correct me if I am wrong.  Not that it really matters.  lol

Actually, I've just realised - I'm right behind you on the one before the arm signing. Big, ugly hairy fat bloke with a checked blue shirt, open, over a 'T' on which you can see 'CE CO' above a V-twin motorcycle with a springer front end and 'uarter' showing under it. Another opportunity missed! Sorry I didn't say hi - I was all excited that Joe Bonamassa had just walked within a foot of my unworthy carcass! My son Joe is in a similar position behind a lady in red a couple of pics later - tall, beige cord jacket, goatee. Better looking than me. I'll say hello next time - promise!

I'd hoped to ask if inserting a Sabbath riff or two into Just Got paid might be a possibility - the tone Joe gets on that Vee would be perfect! And with Tony Iommi's current illness it'd be a nice touch. Mind works overtime, mind goes blank. Hey, as you say, ho.
