Topic: Johnny A.

Maybe something was posted before here about Johnny A.
... but Johnny isn't really a good choice to search ...

Just watching my Rockpalast recording of Johnny A. from November 2011 at the Leverkusen Jazz Days in Germany. WOW. Stunning instrumentalist. Chilling sounds.

Seems that there's one guy more on my concert wishlist.

My son's girlfriend took that video - it was a great show. I was going to post it when I got home from work but you beat me to it. I believe they played a couple of songs together.  I saw Johnny A quite a few years ago - totally different than seeing Joe (I had never heard of Joe at the time) but enjoyed it.  I think he was opening for Derek Trucks - talk about an awesome night of guitar music.

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.
"We're more old school than that. We like creating the sounds."  - Tom Petty

Re: Johnny A.

Johnny A is FANTASTIC!! This may seem strange, but I've often analyzed why he isn't more popular.  I've concluded he's either happy just as things are OR his management team needs to be fired! I say this for countless reasons...like signing up for his mailing list and never getting anything...

Nice guy, HUGE talent & gorgeous guitars.  His performances have a way of dropping my blood pressure, just totally relaxing to listen to.

Sandy, you live in a great location to see Johnny frequently.

Angela I have my opinions on why he isn't more popular I have had Johnny here numerous times and he just never grew his audience.

There is a limited audience for what he does for one thing. His marketing skills are old school. He is his own management other than booking. Rosebud is his booking agent. He was involved with a lawsuit with Favored Nations his label for a couple of years and it killed any momentum he had.

Johnny is his own worst enemy but won't elaborate on that here. He has made an effort on Facebook to connect recently but has not been consistent. I love his records and his live show but he isn't the best hang I have had if you know what I mean.

I had him do a clinic for guitar students here and he really was great. I suggested he do that whenever possible he did a great job telling stories and playing with a Q and A session. He just doesn't connect at his shows. At least not at mine.

Re: Johnny A.

Very interesting Jim and a real shame about the lawsuit, I could see how that could take the wind out of your sails. Guess I'll just keep enjoying his music up close and personal.  I saw Johnny a couple years ago in a little coffee shop, less than 40 people, it was awesome!  I've seen him at the World Cafe since then, it looked sold out.
