Re: Favorite Beer

Beer? big_smile

Most Dutch beers are ok, but I grew up on classic central European 'pilsner' type beers. My favourite beers are Austrian and Czech - Zipfer, 'Pilsner Urquell' and 'Budvar'. Most Bavarian beers are good too.

Over here, we tend to think that American beer is like making love in a canoe, it's.....;)

Hey guys,

I hope you all know that Bavaria in Germany is the homecountry of beer! wink

True, to a degree.  It is the homecountry of the modern day Lager/Pilsner style of beer, but "beer" has been brewed since the early Egyptian empire and probably even before.

But you are right, Bavarian monks are awesome.  Big fan of their work.

ROFL!!! What a bargain!!

As for beers, who has tried Duvell? I've only found it at Bev Mo - it's worth a try (maybe several!!)

How about Jamaican Ginger Beer? It's not alcoholic, but they call it a beer. It's very tasty, but VERY SPICY - I have a taste for impossibly hot food and I can only drink so much of this - it will clean out your respiratory system like no medicine on the market can. Don't get the bottled kind if you want to find out how intense it could be - get the fresh brewed, which is not easy to find, and may not be as intense as the stuff I found - or maybe moreso!

I dont Drink beer due to a slight metabolism conflict.  But here is the Joe Bonamassa Traveling Group's guide to Beer Wine and otherwise.

Beer:  Palm, served in Amsterdam at the Monkey Bar exclusively.  Draft only

Wine: Under $ 20 Yellowtail Shiraz or Pino Over $20 1974 Chataeu Burgondy from France.  (well over 20 dollars)
( Wine can be debated forever.)  I chose Yellowtail cause its available everywhere.   Plus Ive never had a
bad  Austrailan wine.  I chose the 1974 Chateau cause its out of this world.

No favs in San Francisco? Hope you guys spend a lil more time here next tour so you can explore the world-class eats and drinks here. As for the wine, you also need to factor in some time for winetasting - we've got way better than those aussies for far less than $20, but I understand never tasting a bad autralian wine would make you choose that, since there's plenty of NorCal swill to be found.  Still its worth the risk to find something unbelievably great.

Re: Favorite Beer

Pete:  I believe Yuengling is actually brewed in PottsTOWN, PA, and does claim to be the oldest brewery in the U.S.   A good solid lager usually at a pretty good price.  I love the draft myself.

Favorite Import:  Steinlager from New Zealand.

I've tried Duvel. In fact, I listed it as one of my favorites earlier in this thread. Easily one of the best beers I've ever had, if not THE best! It's not cheap, but worth every penny!

Since I last posted another great beer I've tried is the 90 min. IPA from Dogfish Head Brewery out of Delaware. Incredible amount of flavor in one bottle.

Re: Favorite Beer

A nice winter beer is the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, yummy beer.  Lee if you like a hoppy beer like the 90 minute, try the Bells Hop Slam!  Very good...

Re: Favorite Beer

I just had an IPA I thought was rather interesting the other day and figured I'd share it with everyone.  It is called 'Mojo' and it's from Boulder Beer Company.  It is very...."mojo"-like.

Holy crap I just tried Sam Adam's Triple Bock and talk about bold!  It is stout and has a very chocolatey flavor.  If you like beers with "character," try it.

Re: Favorite Beer

Hmmm,  Yeah I like Molson, really good beer with a crisp "real" taste to it for just throwin em back, unlike bud light and those other normal party drinks.  For a more filling beer im into Sam's Summer (YUM) and Guiness(I'm going to Ireland in the spring and really cannot wait until I have a fresh guiness right from the tap!).  Not really into hard stuff, for me it always ends up being a bad night, haha.

Re: Favorite Beer

It's Pottsville, but there is a town called Pottstown closer to Philly and the name does sound japanese, but its German and means Young Man.  One of the Yingling's lives in my town, but doesn't work in the family business, he works in his wife's family business and he spells his name different.  The spelling was changed during immigration, so relatives in his family spell their name different.

Someone commented about Pabst...my brothers use to abuse my husband for drinking Pabst and Black Label many years ago when he was broke and had student loans out the kazoo, but enjoyed beer.  His favorites now are Guiness and he enjoys Yuengling.  The historical figure Sam Adams brewed beer...dah...not to long ago, I realized why the beer was named after him.  cj19...have a wonderful time in Ireland, how exciting!! smile

Carl, You made me go get a bottle to look at the label. Oh well, it's in my hand now. Might as well open this baby up.  MMMM Good. The label I'm looking at says Pottsville. A little west of Allentown, I think.  Cheers  Pete

Re: Favorite Beer

Ragamuffin:  I guess you're right and I did jump the gun on my incorrect correcting of you.  PottsVILLE it is.  We've been planning a brewery visit there for some time.....may happen this month around a NJ road trip to see the amazing harmonica stylings of Jason Ricci and New Blood.  Check out his website at www.jasonricci.com or http://www.myspace.com/jasonricciandnewblood

Annnaan, if you live near Addysea, you can find the Troegenator Double Bock at a liquor store in an office building on 7th St. in Frederick right off Rte. 15, I forget exactly the name, maybe Sprit Shoppe.  If you take the 7th St. exit for Fort Detrick, and turn left at the traffic light, it's the building immediate on your left after the turn.  They have a pretty broad assortment of microbrews and some very knowledgable staff.

KClingers Tavern in Hanover, PA also carries a lovely assortment of micro-brews including some Troeg's, and hosts excellent national blues acts for a $5 cover (or less) on Wednesday nights., and has great food and service to boot.  I'll be seeing the aforesaid Jason Ricci there on Wed., Feb. 27th, and am hoping to have some company from here.

Ah my favorite beer is................................................an open one!

Re: Favorite Beer

Carl, I do live near Addysea/Anne.  She and her family Bonabaptised me last summer.  She also suggested the Urbana store when I was looking for Troeg.  I'm in Frederick fairly often and will check out the store you mentioned.
Thanks!
Ann
