Re: Favorite Beer

It's funny how you change as we "mature".   Back in my college days, my favorite wine was Boones Farm!   My favorite beer was Pabst Blue Ribbon, a.k.a.  PBR.

These days, I prefer a really good high gravity beer, like a Seeing Double IPA from the Foothills Brewery in Winston Salem, which has the best food around!  Or any of the Avery's, Great Divide or Long Trail Ales, all very good.  We have a Flying Saucer in town which has over 80 brews on tap!

When it comes to liquor, Sunday nights is a good night for Marguritas which goes well with our Taco night (been a family tradition for over 30 years).  Really like a good single malt like an 18 year Ballvenie, goes down so smooth Joe.

Not a big wine drinker but my wife likes a good Shiraz, or Pinot Gris.

What about mixing dessert with alcohol? Such as a jello shot! I make a great Bonacherry and Markarita! Just ask Patty and Michael! lol  I will have to create some new flavors for the new guys in the band!

Re: Favorite Beer

Well,  I rarely drink beer, but when I do, I guess my favorite would be a Bass Ale.  Beer goes so well with Pizza or Wings or Mexican.  I pretty much stick to wine these days.  (Red and White)  My favorite red is a South African Cabernet Sauvignon and my favorite whites would be a German Spatlese (or sometimes Kabinett).  I'm not much into the hard stuff anymore, but ocassionally I like a decent scotch.  Johnny Walker Black works for me.  Although, I have to say the tropical rum drinks also hit the spot on a hot summer day.  Goombay Smash  minus the 151 is pretty darn good.

Joe, I doubt many of travel as extensively as you do, but be sure and include your favorite spots for Italy and the UK  in your all inclusive list of favorite places.  I'll be heading over there next year and it would be fun to check out these places.

If I'm ever in a real Irish bar in NY, I will be sure to ask for a Gin Slick......and maybe after a couple I'll just sing "We all live in a Yellow Submarine......."    smile

P.S.  Do you suppose a midwestener could get away with that....my last name is Patrick....so it would be appropriate for me to be in an Irish bar............  lol

Ok I realize Ive started a hornets nest of debate here.  I dont pretend to be a expert on wine at all..  My criteria for selecting wine at a store is the design of the label.  When we crank up the tour in a week Im going to make it a point to poll everybody and make a list of our favorite bars and drinks and make a more comprehensive list.
It 'll be a fun off topic we can get into..
thanks

Hey Joe,
You got some catching up to do......what's made the "hot list" since the tour has started back up?

Re: Favorite Beer

We are going to the Charlotte Oktoberfest this Saturday.  The festival for 2007 is expected to feature over 350 beers from over 100 of the finest breweries from across the Southeast and around the world.

They will also have home brews too.  We went last year and had a blast.  They give you a 6 ounce glass and you can go around and taste all these different brews.  Will have one my Joe shirts of course with some street team cards.

Hey David,
What an awesome event! I'm a huge fan of American microbrews. It's really the only type of beer I buy these days. I looked at the list of brewers that will be there and it's pretty impressive. I betcha that some of those home brews are pretty fantastic as well. Have a great time and remember to pace yourself!

Re: Favorite Beer

Hey guys,

I hope you all know that Bavaria in Germany is the homecountry of beer! wink

As a real Bavarian girl (living in Nürnberg) I should love beer, but unfortunately I get drunk after 2 glasses, so maybe I should keep on drinking some mineral water ......... (but as one "Maß" = 1 liter  2 glasses are not too bad wink )

Do you know the Oktoberfest in Munich (about 1 hour drive from here)?
Can you believe that they serve 6 Mio. liters of beer within one week?!

Re: Favorite Beer

Oh boy what a topic.  Let's see:

Beer (in no real particular order):

Guinness Draught and Extra Stout,  Sam Adams Boston Lager and Boston Ale,  Rogue's Dead Guy Ale and Shakespearean Stout, Old Rasputin's Russian Imperial Stout (that will grow hair on your chest, let me tell ya), Czechvar Lager, Samurai Ale, Shiner Bock, Michelob Amber Bock, Budweiser (yes I still like a good ole Bud), Blue Moon, and many more I am probably not even thinking of.

Hard Liquor:  Johnnie Walker (both Black and Red Label, prefer the Black, want to try Gold, Green, and Blue Labels as well), Knob Creek Bourbon, Maker's Mark, Crown Royal, Bushmill's Black Irish Whiskey, Grey Goose Vodka, Skyy Vodka, Stolichnaya Vodka, Meyer's Dark Rum, Beefeater Gin, Bombay Sapphire Gin, oh and did I say Johnnie Walker (I really love that stuff).

Mixed Drinks:  Far too many to really list, but Meyer's Rum and Coke, Whiskey Sours, Long Island Ice Tea, Irish Car Bombs, Eclipses/Black and Tan (or as I call the Guinness and Blue Moon combo:  Dark Side of the Moon), ect.

Wines:  Egri Bikaver Bull's Blood, Yellowtail Shiraz, and many more.  Unfortunately I haven't had nearly the number of different wines that I have other alcohols, but that is something I intend to change.  I really like the Bull's Blood and for about $10 a bottle you can't beat it in my mind.  Very rich and full flavored.

Well, the night I was born
