Re: Overstepping The Mark

Maybe it's just part of being a language pedant, but I really dislike seeing things being deleted unless absolutely necessary. If Duncan feels like deleting his own topic, fine.

If not, here's what I suggest. It's now nearly 6 pm CET, almost noon EST. I propose to close this topic at midnight CET, 6 pm EST and move it down to 'Old'. If you feel that there's something you want to get off your chest before then, please feel free to do so. If you want to tell me that you think my idea sucks, please feel free to do so.  wink

I agree that otherwise this will just run and run and some people will be unnecessarily upset.

Re: Overstepping The Mark

That's a very good idea George!

Guess that's what I should have done with my thread then, others would know what the initial thread was about. Although, I don't have the ability to close it and move it to another section.

Re: Overstepping The Mark

A/h that sounds like a decent plan to me.
since its still open i want to throw something out there after reading ken's post. (btw ken none of this would have happened if you would post more, just kidding)
anyway back in 09, I made a comment here about a recent version of HTCT Joe played in Europe that got youtubed. i made a comment that i hoped he didn't play that at Hot August Blues. alot of reasons really but the main one i meant was i was looking forward to a fresher number in the set. I don't know if it was how he read my post, or maybe how the posts surrounding mine were refelcting on mine, or maybe how someone interpreted my post and then shared their interpretation with Joe or something else but when I was lucky enough to see him after the show he looked at me without a smile for the first time in 6.junction51 years and asked me if it rocked enough. I was so upset to think I might have upset Joe. I didn't know what to say and for some completely unknown reason I said "well you know I have to stir the pot on the forum" or something. I don't even know why I said that and I don't consiously do that i don't think. i then felt even stupider.
point is sometimes talking about the music is crossing the line with Joe. Joe doesn't fit in the mold of any other musician or celebrity and neither does his fanbase. i guess.
now, i must think of things to entertain ken without drama.....  hmm

Re: Overstepping The Mark

Good points from all directions. I'll hold with if you don't like it don't comment. Sometimes there are posts that seem intended to quash a particular post thread or throw a bad light on it. We all have bad days, why share a funky mood?

Perfectly said...I've often thought this (in no way targeting anyone in particular)...i think many people forget that Joe is a grown man and can take care of himself

Oh no, now the the Funky Doctor of Love will have free reign over this place! lol

Actually Rick,

I want to thank you for the Turkey suggestions you sent me, looks delicious! I was thinking of brining my Turkey before hand as I've never done that before. However, we are pressed for time. I've grilled many full Turkeys out on the Weber Charcoal grill over time. Usually, I use some Lawry's Season Salt, fresh Granulated Garlic a little special spice we get from a local merchant and then rub the Turkey down with Olive Oil. This year I may also place a stick of butter in the cavity as some recipes call for, just as an experiment. I always grill it over indirect charcoals and add coals if needed depending of course, on the size of the Turkey. I baste it with a blend of Lawry's, Garlic, white wine and water mixture every 20 to 30 minutes. The drippings plus some of the liquid is used for gravy.  To start the coals I use Weber's charcoal starter which sort of looks like a chimney and only use 2 1/2 sheets of newspaper. Starts every time and I've cooked out in 10 below weather and in rain too.

Anyway, I know we're off topic...what was the topic again? wink

Re: Overstepping The Mark

Well that's a new one, being pressurised to delete my own thread. Well those of you would know me will know I write what I believe. Don't worry though I won't prolong this more than neccessary. Just got back home to the family, but I promise I'll log on to add a final comment before 11pm GMT this evening which will hopefully clarify a few things and then I'm happy for the topic to be closed (not deleted) and moved elsewhere. Please believe me though that the topic has never been written to be directed at one individual and I'm genuinely sorry if it has been interpreted like that. Laters...

Thanks for thinking of me, Jane (we need more of that around here). I do plan on being very entertained seeing Joe at the Ruth Eckerd Hall on Friday!!! We'll be thinking of you and Cathy while eating Lobster Bisque at Frenchy's on Clearwater Beach before the show. tongue

Let it die please.   smile   It is entirely subjective and personality driven.  Duncan has stated his preferred guidelines.  Some agree.  Some don't.  Where he sets the mark might not be where I would set it.  AND where anyone sets it for themselves might not be where they would set it for me.

Although I read this thread with some level of interest, I decided to stay out of the fray.
But Jeff pretty much summed up exactly what I was thinking... and did it in far less words than I could have.

The guidelines for posting are clearly stated in the stickie at the top of General Topics:   https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic.php?id=807    For a previous discussion re this forum:   https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic. … 32&p=1    Unless Management and/or Joe states diiferently, there are no restrictions on Topics.. As I stated in the previous, deleted, thread the best advice is to skip the threads you find distasteful. Ex: I don't think Joe needs us to tell him how to run his business
https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic.php?id=7857  but it's well written, as per guidelines, and the discussion includes a Mod commenting on Joe's need for a vacation. Invasion of privacy? No. I say let this die. To any newbies, feel free to gush all you want including how good JB looks smile he's worked hard to get there.     Cathy

"....skip the threads you find distasteful"... The original question that Roy asked was 'Does anyone else worry about Joe'. It was a question, not a statement and as such it got a response from a number of forum members that said, quite clearly, 'No', including me. Are you suggesting that we should only respond to a thread if we agree with it Cathy? This is a forum, not a place to blow smoke up each others arses and as such opinions will differ, sometimes drastically. I honestly believe that new members may be more concernd about posting on here after viewing the fanatical element rather than  seeing those who can deal with the verbal (written) sparring and not take every difference of opinion as a personal put down.
