I started on a 79' Les Paul Custom Heritage Sunburst and didn't stray away until after 10-years or so, when I picked up a cheap Jmmie Vaughan Strat at a GC and was surprised how well guitar resonated = it was winner.....so I bought it thinking I should have a Strat in herd.....now I have about 15-Strats and only grab my LP and since bought Heritage H535 on occasion.  Strats fight back at you and whe you win battle, it's so rewarding, as LP's don't fight = too easy to play and less "vocal" sounding than Strat IMHO.

I'm personally not a fan of any Les Paul Studios, but if you're not used to the weight and feel of the standards or customs, you'll be fine. Plus I think the JB sig. Studio model is a level above run of the mill LP Studios. I have yet to play one.

I personally think you should get the JB les paul studio because it is definitely a great sounding guitar compared to any epiphone or other studios! I have played one and it sounded very good on a marshall with no pedals and even better on a fender reverb with a couple pedals! I hope this helps- MATT

Hi all, Just an update on the Les Pul situation. Whilst looking for the Joe Bonamassa Studio LP, I stumbled across a Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom goldtop, with black plastic fittings for only a little more dosh.This is a truly amazing guitar for the money, and of course with the 57 classic pickups, sounds amazing. Intriguing, are they the ones with the maple fretboard? How does that sound compared to other LP's?

That is a sweet sounding guitar...and gorgeous to look at too....I'd definitely grab that...Great playing too...


I love the 57 classic pickups...I put them in my 58RI...opened her right up!!!!!

Yeah, baked maple, but as you can see, it's really dark. Feels great too. The sound is big, fat and warm, with a vintage open sound. It's less bright and edgy than the JBLP with its Burstbuckers. And as you can see, it has the Bonamassa look, complete with full custom style binding.
