Topic: Glyder

Saw the post on The Answer who I love.  Curious to know what people think about other Irish boys Glyder.  Absolutely loving the new album Backroads to Byzantium just released.  Some great guitar playing on it- real mix of bluesy, Americana vibes and a lot of good ole fashioned classic rock riffs.

Re: Glyder

Caught them a live a couple of times in support slots few years back.

At the time they were trying a bit too hard and could only come across as a poor mans Lizzy. Maybe it is time to give them another listen. Thing is there are so many bands and unless they have something to make them stand out from the pack you tend to graze a little and then move on.

With bands like The Answer and Black Stone Cherry and so on it was easier. Fantastic riffs, good writing and very special delivery. Glyder, loud and punchy but pedestrian by comparison. But maybe they are 'road honed' now and the material stands up better.

Re: Glyder

Yeah the new vocalist really adds a new dimension now I feel- they've branched away a lot from that Lizzy sound and the songs on the new album are a lot stronger than anything they've done previously.  Saw the new line-up live supporting Y&T a few weeks back and they were brilliant. I just hope they aren't another band who'll slip through the cracks cause I do think they're a cut above the average stuff doing the rounds at the moment

Classic Rock Magazine just gave them a bit of a thumbs up-

Irish rockets Glyder have totally revamped their line-up, and in the process given their bluesy melodic rock approach a real shot in the arm. Backroads To Byzantium (SPV/Steamhammer) is possibly the band’s best album yet. The songs have a vigour and the musicianship an edge that really does convince you of Glyder’s worth.

Re: Glyder

Followed them from pretty much day one. Loved the Lizzy style songs like Pretty Useless People and Neutral Coloured Life.
I look forward to getting this latest release.

Re: Glyder

I thought they had split up.

Re: Glyder

I down loaded the new album and am really liking it. Think the new singer is a vast improvement.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

They did for a while.  Previous drummer and singer left and they've a new vocalist in with a new bass and drum rhythm section.

Anyone's who's heard the new album what's your favourite track(s).  Love 'Even if I don't know where I'm gonna go' with the slide guitar on it and the riff on 'Don't make their mistakes' is class.

Re: Glyder

So now that we've covered the Answer and Glyder, I'm wondering if we'll see a Skin topic next? Any fans?

Re: Glyder

Excellent band- Skin, The Answer and Glyder, what a gig that would be if it came to pass!  Couple of members of Skin supporting The Quierboys I think I saw for their forthcoming tour, another good band..

Re: Glyder

One of the new tracks for free download.  Definitely a driving song  smile
