Topic: Crown Royal...

Having just passed a landmark birthday -50-(yeah i know,i don't look a day over 49....) wink i was presented with a litre of the Legendary (it says on the box) Canadian whiskey.but i put it to you-do i just open it and imbibe as and when the mood takes,or does this elixir deserve a more regal sense of occasion? I know a 50th IS amajor event,so i should just crack the blighter open,eh? Or is it just another whiskey? As i speak it's 8-45pm and SHOULD be outside the Blackpool gig hustling for a ticket,-get well soon,joe-so,just glug it down or treat with reverence? Discuss...........(but don't take all night about it!) big_smile

Re: Crown Royal...

Open it and take a gulp! Fine whiskey is meant to be drank, not stowed away.
You'll know once you taste it if it warrants savoring over time!

I concur Barbie. Back in the day ( 18 years sober) I would take my whiskey/bourbon on the rocks and just sip whilst listening to music.
So idol, put on your slippers, light a fire, get the dog to lay down, put the easy chair back and enjoy!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Crown Royal...

One of my favorites. Sipping whiskey and the Canadians have a nice touch. I'd have already put a couple of fingers down neat by now. Happy Birthday!

Re: Crown Royal...

The whisky in an open bottle will oxydize over time (some whiskies actually improve after breathing a bit). Maybe have a dram or two to celebrate your birthday then put it away to help celebrate other occasions (wedding anniversary, your children's graduation, birth of a grandchild, etc.) But I agree, unless it's a rare bottling that may appreciate over time you're better off just to drink and enjoy it.

Yeah, 28 years for me.  It was Wild Turkey on the rocks that sat in the "drug of choice" seat for me.  Crown Royal was the only blend I remember straying for.  I thought it was more of a special guest status.  Scotch?  whole nother question...whole nother world.  smile  tongue

Enjoy ol' man.

It's open! The wife reckons it's DEFINATELY a whiskey, almost So Co in flavour tho obviously not as sweet, she's having it neat-i got it over ice and it lends a chocolatey warmth in the mouth ,very smooth going down and just the right amount of warmth when settled.....tho that is only the first.... big_smile

Re: Crown Royal...

Nothing more disturbing than watching somebody order Crown with Coke or another mixer. Crown Royal is best enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or with just a dash of H2o to breath it. Enjoy your half-century gift at your leisure, but no need to hoard it, there's more @ the store!

Re: Crown Royal...

Just drink it straight from the bottle and throw the cap away so you'll have to drink it.

Advice from a Scotsman; the ONLY thing you put in whisky is 'mair whisky'. Anything else is sacrilege.   smile
