I've posted this before, though in a slightly different context - I only ever walked out once, and it wasn't even the band's fault.

'My' legendary Little Feat experience at the Rainbow in London in 1975 - the Feat were only the openers for the Doobies, but the entire Feat freak audience was so blown away that people started standing up and walking out when the Doobies started to play. My group lasted three numbers or so before we gave it up. The music did nothing for us and we were totally drained, so we got up and walked out as did hundreds more. It wasn't in any sense the Doobies fault, they were just unbelievably unlucky to have been dropped into such a bizarre situation by Warner and his brothers.

Since then, I have walked out on two other occasions. I won't say who, since several posters might have a heart attack if I did.  neutral

Re: Concert walk-outs

I walked out half way through Joe's encore last year at Cambridge  yikes  yikes  yikes

Before you all stone me verbally over the airwaves, I had two good excuses...

(1)  I wanted to catch him by the tour bus to sign a large photo I had taken of him and I didn't know what size the autograph-hunting throng would be.

(2)  I was going to see him again 4 nights later in Bristol!!

Although I hate to miss 1 second of any gig (particularly Joe's) I was rewarded with the whole band signing my "Black Rock" CD and Joe signing my photo-poster and being very charming about it.

I think you'll be forgiven for that one! I'm hoping I can get something signed when I see Joe in Cardiff in October - seen him three times so far and haven't managed to speak to him......mind you I'd probably get tongue-tied anyway!!

Reminds me of the Spud gig. I was standing outside the back between sets chatting to a comely fan when Joe walked up with Sandi and I said Hi. He said a few words and walked on, and as I returned to chat, she was gasping and just about ready to keel over with star-struck shock.  lol

My dear child, for you to be forgiven in the House of Joe, you must play the "Blues Deluxe" album once, "Dust Bowl" twice and watch three of his videos on YouTube. Then and only then, will Joe's smiling countenance shine down upon you. cool  Amen, Hallelujah and and all that other stuff.

I think I can cope with that punishment!

If that is your idea of atonement, I daren't ask what you prescribe for good behaviour!!   big_smile  big_smile  wink

I'm attending three of Joe's UK gigs in October - I solemnly promise not to miss a single second!!

There's been a few I've walked away from over the years.

1980 The Scorpions Hammersmith Odeon, they were supported by new to UK band Blackfoot who blew everyone away, scorps just sounded dated after that. Stayed in bar for most of their set.

Aynley Lister/ Yardbirds Blues Assembly Leamington - great day, but these two acts bored me senseless , again back in the bar for the remainder.

The Union totally blown away by Saint Jude and Voodoo Six at O2 Academy Islington. early night for me

Blackfoot (2 originals + Mike Estes & new drummer) are doing a few dates in the UK in November, couple of shows supported by Martin's lads, VATA. Saw Blackfoot earlier this year in a small venue in Gateshead and whatever they had years ago, they've still got.

Wish you hadn't said that about The Union, some mates draggin' me along to Newcastle show in November - they're mates of Pete Shoulder's and it's a home town gig for him.

saw Blackfoot on the tour when they made their live album, - also saw them at Donington Monsters of rock, - really, REALLY good live band, - Ricky Medlocke knew how to entertain..

...and back to the original subject, sorry.

Donington Monsters of Rock, - AC/DC headline, Whitesnake, - Slade (brilliant), Blackfoot (as I mentioned above) and then Blue Oyster Cult..... BIG let down, - late on stage and came on with a roadie playing drums as somebody had spat the dummy, - and then just zzzzz. Could nt walk away as it was a festival, - but vowed that I would never go to Donington again as a venue, - as was said before it had a really weird atmosphere, - no security so a load of idiots with Nazi swastika flags looking to fight somebody/anybody.  - Despite it being a great motor racing circuit will also never go there, - spent too many hours trying to get out of the car park as they cant organise anything!

And the gig/festival I did walk out of.... T in the Park, (Hyde Park) - a few years ago, - wife wanted to go so I succumbed, - the lineup is too embarrassing to list but let's just say that Brian Adams was the best on it by a long way. - Even the wife wanted to leave, - she then realised that some of these

damn spybot!! Lucky I copied the post before submitting!

So my walk-outs or negativity are more to do with venue than the act.

Re: Concert walk-outs

I went to see Blue Oyster Cult, many moons ago at the Hammy, supported by an unknown band at the time (but i knew their singer/bass player) called Motorhead. Dreadful, to put it mildly. A bunch of us retreated to the bar. I found out later, the Hammy gig was their first.
BOC, on the other hand were amazing. I can't remember what song it was, but all members of the band ... even the drummer, came down front of stage and played guitar.... that has stayed in the memory!

So, that night started off dreadful, but ended up, amazing!

Brack, you mean you didn't like Ian Fraser Kilmister?, better known as Lemmy? Oh yeah, the one that refuses to have his face moles removed. Can't say as I blame you. Also brought to mind this clip from SNL, "I need more cowbell".
