Guns 'N' Roses, Newcastle City Hall, first UK tour. Probably the last time Axel turned up on stage on time, but 5 or 6 songs in and he needn't have bothered.

Vintage Trouble, Newcastle, earlier this month. Even if I was feeling well, which I was far from, just didn't match the hype.

Can't win them all, and 3 in 30 plus years, isn't bad.

Just remembered another awful one - The Mighty Diamonds (a reggae band) at Reading Rock Festival.....they kept shouting "you want more", the crowd were shouting "no" but they just carried on and on......and on !!!

Re: Concert walk-outs

I walked out on a show last night.

My Morning Jacket

The crowed was LOVING it, and I was in the 3rd row and not feeling it at all. I stayed until they left (before their first round of encores) and left. I wanted it to be a like a mix of Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam... but their songs took too long to develop, and then the songs would pickup, get heavy and then end abruptly. I've never tapped my watch so many times at a show. oh well - free tix and VIP parking wink

Re: Concert walk-outs

Never walked out, but did pass out at a few back in the early 70s. Ah yes, a "little" smoke and some Boone's Farm wine, a lethal combination at Summerfest in it's infancy. wink How in the world did we ever drink that sh*t? roll

Re: Concert walk-outs

Well, it's in all three of those links Jane posted, but I did walk out on one show:

I saw Kansas open for Bad Company at the old Chicago Stadium. Kansas was awesome, Bad Co. not so awesome. Sound system issues, off night, whatever...we left after 3 songs and they were the reason we went in the first place.
It's the only time I ever walked out on a concert.

I wanted to walk out on another show, the former lead singer of the Violent Femmes opened for Joe at Shank Hall and I didn't enjoy any part of the show. When midway through he returned to the stage and started playing a conch shell, I knew I was not in Kansas anymore. Knowing that Joe Bonamassa was coming out soon was the only thing that kept me in my seat.

oh, but what about that delicious Ripple pear, one of my favs in college. Enough sugar to put you in a coma real quick. didn't want to admit it, but since Roy broke the ice, I had to walk on ZZ Top back in the 70's because of a similar chemical overload, somebody gave me a pill that was probably horse tranquilizer or God knows what. I lasted about 2 songs and had to go back to the car, everyone said it was a great show.

Should have walked out on a support band called Vardis years ago, but then would have missed "The Phantom of City Hall". Vardis played this thrash type song, "100MPH" (not a ballad) and finished to absolute silence. The singer grabbed the mike and yelled "Speak to me, you B*****ds!!" Lone voice in the balcony replied, "*%$@ Off" and got the biggest applause of the night.

Fell asleep once at Donnington, mid way through Anthrax and woke up during Metallica, thought it was the same band.

Re: Concert walk-outs

I would have left Eric Clapton early in 1998 on the Pilgrim Tour... "Father's Eyes" and other lame/boring song.
Sunshine of your Love was the encore and it did what it could to patch together a boring night I could have spent sipping tea at a local coffee shop listening to smooth jazz. (sarcasm)

but i stayed  sad

Re: Concert walk-outs

Ughh.  Not a walk out, more like a left early.  So a first after 35 years of going to concerts.  Took my wife to see George Thorogood & Kenny Wayne Shepherd last night as a birthday present.  The bands were both great, but my wife does not like to go out on work nights.  Pretty inflexible on that policy too.  So at we missed probably 20-30 minutes of GT by cutting out early.  It was definitely not a walk out due to anything related to the bands or the venue.  Still, it was not a good feeling.

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Re: Concert walk-outs

There's been a few I've walked away from over the years.

1980 The Scorpions Hammersmith Odeon, they were supported by new to UK band Blackfoot who blew everyone away, scorps just sounded dated after that. Stayed in bar for most of their set.

Aynley Lister/ Yardbirds Blues Assembly Leamington - great day, but these two acts bored me senseless , again back in the bar for the remainder.

The Union totally blown away by Saint Jude and Voodoo Six at O2 Academy Islington. early night for me
