Has anyone ever walked out of a concert for whatever reason ?
I thought about this, and i can't remember a single concert i've ever walked out on..... and i must have seen hundreds!

Any interesting stories ? who were the band/artist,
where, when, & why ?

Re: Concert walk-outs

I walked on Todd Rundgren at one of those cityfest music things in Pensacola, late 90's. In fairness to him there were some sound problems, he got very frustrated and was screaming at the guys on the board. My kids were also dead tired and it was time to exit. I do like his music and would probably pay to see him again.

and as I posted on what are you listening to now, walked on Candlebox because of Kevin's excessive foul language.

Re: Concert walk-outs

Johnny Lang about 4 years ago headlining at the Mammoth Bluesapalooza. I've posted it before, but he was screeching, endless looping shred on every song such that you were thinking enough already when it was time for the song to end, but it wouldn't, for another 5 minutes! We hung in for 5 songs of the set thinking it would get better before giving up. 8 of us looked at each other in disgust, got up and walked. I was very disappointed because I'd heard his early recorded music and was expecting something similar. He was terrible that night. I felt bad for the rest of the band having to back up something like that.

Re: Concert walk-outs

The only gig I have walked out of (but returned later after a breather) was Nazareth in the early 70's.

Why did I walk out, well, it was the loudest gig I have ever been at and even at the tender age of 16 and used to very load heavy music, this one one was just too much and I just had to take a few minutes out. I was roadie on the gig as well  big_smile

I have thought about it off and on over the years since and I still can't figure out why I couldn't hack it, even for those few minutes - I mean, I have been at concerts that made it into the Guinness Book Of Records for volume.

I spent one gig with my head in (literally) a 100 watt mid range unit (lost hearing for 2 days, ringing in ears for 4 more after that  roll  ) Not something I ever repeated  lol

Oh well, I didn't actually miss any of the gig as I could hear everything quite clearly outside the hall doors  lol

Re: Concert walk-outs

Yeh, the Empire Liverpool - Went to see Motorhead. Gig started well but they kept cranking up the volume, with Lemmy screaming - "you want it ####### louder". Well, it just got too loud to bear.

On the other hand, the longest gig was Springsteen at the Apollo Manchester - walked off stage after a mamoth set at 12.15am!!!! Fantastic!

Never, ever.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Concert walk-outs

Hate to admit but had to take a looooong break during a Clapton concert once. I think it was some time in the late-ish 90s, not sure. Was it a back to the blues tour, maybe? He wasn't playing any of his usual music and we were just in pain. We don't do hard core blues very well, or whatever the heck it was he was playing.  I felt bad for my young nephew who was seeing him for the first time. My sister was the biggest Clapton fan I knew and she still hasn't forgiven him! My nephew has since turned into quite a guitar player and song writer so we are always happy to listen to his music now!  big_smile

Down with you Guido, I give everybody a chance, but to take a note from Rick & Tres' posts, I was @ a Jonny Lang gig years ago that damn near put me to sleep and both my kids were with me and when I saw the sandman in their eyes I said vamanos mijos and we beat it outta there. Never spent a dime on Lang again. Somebody posted a video by him recently and all that came to mind was, same crap, different gig.

Re: Concert walk-outs

I didn't walk out, but pretty much slept through Frank Zappa when I saw him at the Long  Beach Arena in the late 70's.

Not your average rock concert......an acquired taste, so to speak.

I'm afraid I (along with a few friends) walked out on Dire Straits in Cardiff Rugby Stadium some time ago.....I was drunk at the time and they just seemed boring! Another huge disappointment was seeing Elkie Brooks at a festival - I thought she would have a good rockin'/bluesy band, it being a festival, but no it was like a caberet act!

That would be Vinegar Joe you'd be talking about chris, with the late Robert Palmer. Saw em' at a few festivals as well, bought something of theirs on vinyl at the time if memory serves!
I will have to dig something up in YouTube later.

No, she had left Vinegar Joe by that time - it was during the "Pearl's a Singer" era etc. I must admit I've seen Bob Dylan 3 times - pretty good first time, excellent the second time and awful the third time - that was one I should've walked out of!!!

Re: Concert walk-outs

Ozzy Osbourne at Monsters Of Rock, Donnington Park, Leicestershire in the mid 80s. Such a strange atmosphere seemed to build through the day; if a fight had broke out, felt sure it would have ended in a riot. Stayed till Scorpions finished thier set then legged it.

Guns 'N' Roses, Newcastle City Hall, first UK tour. Probably the last time Axel turned up on stage on time, but 5 or 6 songs in and he needn't have bothered.

Vintage Trouble, Newcastle, earlier this month. Even if I was feeling well, which I was far from, just didn't match the hype.

Can't win them all, and 3 in 30 plus years, isn't bad.
