Screw the Hawks & the Sharks........Alvin Lee has passed away.
I never missed TYA when they came through Chicago. A sad day and a sad way to lose an icon.

5 game suspension for Kaleta? Yeah, the NHL cares about protecting its players.

Yes....he did, and so did thousands of other people. Not to sound callous but life goes on.
Hey Bill,
Update me here. I think it was just last week that ESPN had a chart up about the Blackhawks breaking records. Did they just break a winning streak record held by an old Flyers team? (as a sidenote, be grateful your team name is safe, I'm not sure the Redskins are going to be able to keep their name this time around...)
rpic wrote:Bill S wrote:And the Blackhawks just keep rolling...now 17-0-3, 20 straight games with at least a point (37 of a possible 40 points), the best start in NHL history. The all time points streak is 35 games...Hawks are now at 26 straight when you include the end of last year's regular season. The odds of them winning another 10 straight are pretty slim, but they are on a huge roll, so who knows.
For the hockey fans out there, the Hawks first goal was a thing of beauty: Off the opening face-off, 6 passes, all 5 Hawks touch the puck and it was in the back of the net 12 seconds into the game, without a Blues player touching the puck.
You can see it here: http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=201 … pid=ggl1bxOh quit bragging, Hahahah. What is it now 21?
Yeah, I intentionally avoided this topic for awhile because of that. Streak now at 24 this year, 30 including a 6 game streak at the end of last year.
Finally.
Angela, the Blackhawks started this year with a streak of 24 games gaining at least a point in every game. They had 3 shoot out losses in this stretch, but did not lose a game in regulation. The previous record was 16 games. The Hawks record is for the start of a season.
The Flyers hold the record for most games without a regulation loss (anytime in the season, not just at the start), at 35 games.
The Blackhawks overall streak ended at 30 games, which included 6 games at the end of last season.
Finally.
Yup!
Bill, if it was not a truncated season, I would still be excited to see them continue the streak to a new record...nothin' personal cuz you know I always like the Hawks if not playing the Rangers!

I really enjoyed the streak, but must admit to not being entirely disappointed the streak is over. Like any sports fan, I hate to see my team lose, but the streak had taken on a life of its own and I think it is better for the Hawks season that it ended. Now they can shed the distractions and get back to the business of trying to win a Cup.

I really enjoyed too, Bill, but I think I completly felt the same that it was better for the Blackhawks season to end. Sort of lie this is fun, this is great, what price will we pay to win EVERY game? You get marked, and guys can do stupid things, either side, normally taut hockey teams' tensions escalate dangerously-things can come back to haunt at Stanley Cup Playoffs-you know what I mean.
i wish 'em continued luck (notice I didn't say success! don't want to overcharm the situation!!!). Hey, start another streak!!!

In case you didn't notice, they did start another streak....two in a row now!
Tomorrow, the MN Gophers women's hockey team is looking to finish their season undefeated in the NCAA Championship game against Boston U. This year they are 40-0 and have a 48 game winning streak going back to last year. An amazing streak at any level of hockey. Women's college hockey is a great sport, and anyone that appreciates the finer points of the game would agree.

Wow Lee! That is amazing...it puts the Hawks streak to shame. Good luck to them.
Bringing this back up to the top, since the season has single digit games left now, and lots of teams are either putting on a push to be in the top 16 or trying to move up the ladder.
Where's your team? Are they in? On the cusp? Fighting for home ice advantage? Already clinched? Lots of exciting hockey going on!
Sharks not in yet but looking like they will be. Don't see them going very far though.....just not quick enough. You never know, look what the Kings did last year getting in 8th seated.
I really think the Blackhawks are going to win it all.

Teams that open the season setting records have won the Cup often, so not a bad prediction. Quick is starting to recover his form though, so watch out for LA, and the Ducks could be formidable if Hiller is on his game.
Rangers would have to totally collapse to not make it, and don't look forward to playing Pens in the first round, but HL keeps them in every game, so Im counting on a deep run (without the Devils to curse them!)
I'm a long time Islanders fan and the thought of them making the playoffs boggles my mind. I now live in NJ so Brooklyn (where I was born and raised) would make it easier to see a game

Lol. It wasn't easy working with a lot of Ranger fans. Four cups in a row....
