Topic: Paris, the Olympia, May 5th.

So I'm back from the Paris show, which completes the European leg of the tour for Joe & Alumni, and it was a great show. A few issues with one of the amps ( I think it even blew a fuse at one point ), but no major problem. The setlist was the same as the Belgium show ( as far as I remember ), and the sound was pretty darn good overall, albeit a bit on the agressive side on Joe's voice and acoustic guitar. No pics for me as I was in a spot where it wasn't really easy to take a pic ( a bit too far from the stage and not in direct line to the center ). I must say, as a musician myself, I really saw a display of dynamics that confined to mastery tonight. The way the show was balanced in various volume levels, power, the tone variations and intensity drops and peaks were really amazingly performed and really kept the audience on the edge for the over two hour long show.

I say great job everyone and I really hope Joe and I can actually meet next time he's in Paris. Maybe for BCC in july.

Fantastic historical venue fantastic sound and a fantastic performance.

The setlist was exactly the same as Antwerp so I won`t repeat it. Straight into Cradle Rock and I find it a testament to Rory that he still opens with this song and then its So Many Roads without stopping. Joe has the crowd in his hands this early on and when the hypnotic beat signals Midnight Blues I knew we were in for a special evening. Dust Bowl is heavier than on record and there are a few familiar songs that have new arrangements such as BOJH and Happier Blues. My favourite of the show was The Great Flood with another gut wrenching solo from Joe.

Tal puts his own stamp on the songs and he is a demon on drums especially Young Man Blues. This is a band on top of their game so its scary what the future might hold.

The show started at 8.50 and finished at 11.10. I would have posted this last night but our last train was cancelled so had to walk for an hour back to hotel.

Nice review Chris.  The statement about the dynamics and balance is something that is amazingly consistent show to show, even it it blows a fuse now and then  lol (any further word on what it was and which amp it was?)...and always hypnotically tantalizing at times within performances!   cool

Fear not Kenny! Nothing to be scary worried about.  I like your description of Tal "demon on drums"  lol ! Very fitting!  cool

Another gut wrenching solo from Joe on The Great Flood?  They always are, and always a set list highlight to me.  I am surprised it is not more revered by fans really.

Re: Paris, the Olympia, May 5th.

I can't be 100% positive, but I think the culprit was the top left amp ( Van Weelden ). It started crackling during "woke up dreaming" and gave out during the next song.

I agree with you Rocket, he always nails this song but it doesn't get the same attention as some of the other "biggies", even though it should. I really missed not hearing If heartaches were nickels but it was more than compensated for by the performance of Midnight Blues. Stunning to say the least.
