I don't give any Dodger credit for ANYTHING, but you can love 'em all you want, it's a free world. BTW have the Dodgers played in the World Series 3 years in a row.......TWICE??????? Is Kirk Gibson or Dennis Eckersley in the Baseball Hall Of Fame????????

DOWN TO THE WIRE!!

Giants 8 to 1 over the snakes this afternoon with the bulk of the offense provided by Beltran & Cabrera, back in 1st place alone. I'm surprised that, Shreddy from Fremont, would give a douche bag like Gibson ANY respect after the way he gloated and showboated all the way around the bases after the World Series home run off your homeboy Dennis Eckersley, a guy with more class in his little finger than Gibson.

Could not stand Eck, he was a punk **** in high school too!....Gibson did the impossible, and that damn Scully (now that guy I really dislike) called it like the homer he is and was supposedly "impartial", that's BS!!....Gibson was hurt alot from playing like it was his last game in the majors, love the dude....the Giants raked yesterday, loved it, now they got Phillu at home....lets see if they go yard in a REAL ballpark....the Ricans are taking over, I wonder if Cepeda called Beltran to welcome him and burn some "insense" at his casa  lol

Don't look now, but the Cubs have won 6 straight and are now only 17 games below .500 and a mere 15 games out of first place! Look out MLB!!!

Kudos to both of you for maintaining your sense of humor. God knows I've been through some lean times being an Indians/Giants fan. At least I finally got to feel the exilhiration of a World Series Championship last year with SF. Almost felt it in '97 with the Tribe, what a bitter pill to swallow. Oddly it was Edgar Renteria who brought me joy and sorrow. This is a tough season with the Indians slipping after a surprise start and the Giants have a target on their backs and a film crew following their every move, still they cling to 1st place. Watching the Giants/Phillies as I post and just had a bench clearing brawl which resulted in Victorino, the target of a Ramirez fastball in the posterior, and Eli Whiteside gettin' tossed for takin' down Polanco. Play has resumed and the Phils lead 9-2. Tune in Sportscenter for all the action. Man, I love this game!!!

I love this game. We are finally getting some entertaining ball down here. New blood, watching the rookies play and the pressure is off. Now to start the drive towards finishing better than .500 (and maybe ahead of those Dodgers!) smile

Rick,
The Cubs just beat up on the Reds again. Win streak now at seven after going the first 100 games of the season without a 3 game win streak (the last team in the league to have a 3 game win streak). There is reason for hope...some really good young players, including our double play combo.

Heh, we can't match your storied past there Bill. My hat is off to Cubs fans for hanging in no matter what. Good luck in the second half of the season. We match up well with the cellar dwellers. Watch our budding power man Headly, he's starting to come into his own. He might be our next Gonzo.

That's the great thing about baseball: there is always something to play for...even if it's avoiding the cellar! Good luck to SD the rest of the season.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Giants up 3-1 over the Phillies in Bottom of the 7th, but that's irrelevant as far as this series is concerned. There's been a black cloud over this series this weekend. The darkest part being the hit n run accident that put a 9 year Philly fan on vacation with his family in critical condition after being struck in a crosswalk by a drunk driver. The A-hole was arrested an hour later and is sitting jail at the moment. Then the intentional drilling of Shane Victorino which triggered a bench clearing brawl in which punches actually connected and ejections followed. Then to make matters worse, native Philly sportscaster Tony Bruno tweeted that Bruce Bochy was a blankety coward for telling his illegal alien pitcher(Ramon Ramirez of the Dominican Republic) to drill Victorino. Bruno deleted the tweet before even finishing it, but the damage was already done. His attempt to apologize was more like a slam on Giants fans for being upset about his racist statement. Bruno was immediately fired by KNBR(the Giants flagship station) on which he hosted a sportstalk segment on their offshoot channel 1050 am. Pretty wild & wooly weekend between these NL front runners. During last nights game the Giants asked the fans at the park and at home to keep young Ryan White(the boy who got run down) in their thoughts and prayers. OMG! Chase Utley just lost the grip of his bat and it hit Tim Lincecum in the knee. Please just end this game and put the Phillies on a plane outta town!

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Equally ugly in a very different way for the Padres. Watching the Pirates do everything wrong has clearly emphasized how the terrible late inning call vs. the Braves has gotten into the team psyche. It was actually painful to watch as the Pads ran up 35 runs in 3 games via errors mental and physical, bad pitching and hideous luck. It could have been much worse if they hadn't put on the brakes late in the games, which the Pirates were obviously aware of. The continuous boos from the home crowd just added insult to injury. Flaming tailspin with no end in sight.
Prayers and hopes for the kid J Dawg.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

jdawg,

Did not hear about Bruno-You have to wonder about some of the tweets coming from people who should know better.

About Ryan White - his photo was in the paper with his brother and Ruben Amaro, GM of the Phillies.  They live in the same town and/or attend the same church.  Some of the Phillies wanted to visit at the hospital, but the family wanted privacy.  Smart parents, who needs that distraction when your kid is fighting for his life in critical condition.  Hopefully, Ryan pulls through well, then bring on the biggest celebration.  Just heart wrenching...

Thought it was real cute when Tim handed Chase his bat as Chase approached him....agreed, way too much drama for one series, one game too long, we could have swept you.    big_smile

Just heard an update on Ryan White and he's making slow improvements and had a visit from the SFPD's Chief who brought him a miniature patrol car to raise his spirits. He's expected to make a full recovery, which is good news.

That's good to hear! (hopefully there was no head trauma, otherwise "full recovery" is an inaccurate statement in many cases).  However...  mad  Time for a change of scenery over at the Rant!

Hmm, Phillies and giants each trying to crown the other team in their series chases....not crowning champs, chumps all!
What an insult to the sport of Hockey to say that bore resemblance  roll , even with landed punches!  tongue If there's no blood and stitches and returning to the game...OH THAT'S RIGHT, it's Baseball! But it's all in fun 'til someone gets corked...

EXCELLENT NEWS about Ryan!!  Not sure how I feel about Victorino being the only one suspended, however I do know he should NOT have laid a hand on the ump.  roll
