Topic: Hot Tuna Blues in Princeton

On a whim I went to see the two founding members of Jefferson Airplane....Jourma Kaukonen guitar/vocals and  Jack Casady bass....along with mandolin player Barry Mitterhoff, Jim Lauderdale vocals/accoustic, Skoota Warner drums (Emeril Live) With special guests GE Smith guitar, and Charlie Musselwhite harmonica and vocals.  I really didn't know what to expect.....I had viewed some stuff on youtube.....and really enjoyed the  accoustic Anticipation Blues

Re: Hot Tuna Blues in Princeton

being "Electric Tuna" I enjoyed the opening 3 or 4 accoustic songs that only involved 3 intruments....bass, guitar, and mandolin......Lauderdale did a few of his own alt/country tunes which didn't do much for me......One of the highlights was Musselman on the harmonica....wow this  dude was a master of that little instrument!!!  Made me think of the the harmonica bit on the RAH DVD......and this guy could certainly hold his own with anyone....and he sang quite nicely....GE Smith was good......I only remember him from Saturday Night Live and his exagerated guitar playing!!!  I never knew he was the guitarist behind those huge Hall and Oates hits of the 80's....and was with the Roger Waters Wall Tour last year.....so i have some respect for him now(or that he married Gilda Radner before Gene Wilder!)  All and all a decent show..and would also highly recommend McCarter Theater in Princeton.....very small with ample room in your seat!   I wish Joe hadn't outgrown the 1100 seat venues!!!!
....those on the east coast....ya can still catch these guys....Count Basie Theater in Red Bank NJ on February 17th.....I would go again.....but will be partying with Mr. Rick Beck in San Diego that evening!!!!!!!.

Re: Hot Tuna Blues in Princeton

sounds like a great show Rudy, what no violin?  roll wish they would come somewhere near here, fat chance of that happening. hope they played Keep on Truckin' Mama. and the second set they went electric?

yes, GE is a very good guitarist, but I always got the feeling he thought he was a little better. just me, probably just the showmanship on SNL.
