Topic: Meet and Greets?

A lot has changed over the years for Joe.  Everything keeps getting bigger and better.  It's obviously great for Joe, but has changed how fans get to interact with Joe in one key way: personal access after the show.  It was so cool to be able to talk to Joe after every show and get the ticket or a new CD from the merch table signed.  Has anyone here gone to a paid Meet & Greet with an artist?  Would it be a viable solution for Joe?

I'm curious about this too, and how his m&g's work in general. I'll be at Joe's show - my first - in Reading PA in March, and it'd be cool to get a chance just to have a picture taken with him, and yeah, maybe get an album signed or something (should have Dust Bowl by then). Is there some sort of structured, invitation-only thing before/after the show, or does one just have to stand in line after, or...? I don't know how these things work but I'd like to find out!

Well usually people ring up his management in order to get a meet and greet before the show (usually before, not after). That's how the people who were at the meet and greet with me did it. I did it slightly differently...

The only time you can stand in line to talk to him is when he is signing autographs after a show I believe and this does not have an invitation list whereas a meet and greet does. As said before, you can get yourself on that list for free by getting in touch with his management team

Re: Meet and Greets?

I have been to a couple of shows when Joe did not come out afterwards to sign autographs. If you really want to get to spend a minute or two with him the meet & greet is definitely the way to go. I'd suggest emailing someone at J&R to get on the list, or contacting them through Facebook, etc.

Even with his popularity increasing day by day I think Joe really enjoys getting to say hello to new fans (and old friends). I'm sure that eventually this won't be the case but enjoy it while it lasts!  smile

Re: Meet and Greets?

Agreed, those who've put in the work to support Joe should get priority. No argument there!

The obvious problem of doing a paid m&g is that it biases the event towards those with money... Getting expensive enough just to get tickets in the first place. And if someone pays for it, they might expect a little more "face time" with Joe than can be reasonably expected in a big crowd, might lead to bad feelings.

Re: Meet and Greets?

Email Joe's management about a week in advance.

They're not easy to come by. The venue's use them for local promo's. If there's spots available you may get in but time with Joe is very limited.

Re: Meet and Greets?

As part of the National Public Radio fund raising this winter, the exerpted RAH was played and as part of the donation drive, M&G could be purchased as a premium to purchasing tickets for the show. as I recall, the price was $200 for a DVD+ticket in orchestra with a pre show M&G. or $120 for the ticket and a DVD. This was a limited offer here and it sold out in a hurry. That sets the price at $80 less the cut for PBS. A fairly large block of prime location tickets was withheld from public sale for this promotion. NPR has promoted Joe in the past and I see nothing wrong with this. The show exposed a lot of new listeners to Joe and his music and that is all good with me. That sets the price for a meet pre show at $80 to $100 each. Steep but the market bears it. (a tax deductible donation in the US btw)

Re: Meet and Greets?

My daughter contacted J&R and asked to get me on the guest list as my xmas gift.  Alexis was very helpful and i am very appreciative that I was granted access.

Re: Meet and Greets?

All meet and greet requests are sent to me.
As Joe's popularity increases so does the amount of people who request to meet him.
I try to make it as fair as possible.
The first ones to get an opportunity to meet Joe are loyal street team members and contest winners. Just because you signed up for the Street team a week before the show does not mean you will be automatically put on the list. I like to repay the hard working street teamers for all the effort they put in, in the months leading up to the show. For me to put in someone who just signed up for the meet and greet and did not really help out would not be fair to the loyal ones.
With that being said in response to Jane's comment, If those street team members worked hard and did not get a meet and greet it is not because they were not given the opportunity. They just didn't ask. I go through literally hundreds of e-mails every day and thats even before I get to start my regular work duties. I can't remember all the names but those of you who call me know, I am pretty close to remembering everyone.

The other part some people have to understand is that as much as I try to give you a chance to see Joe it is not fair to newer fans if I put you in the meet and greet for 3 shows in a row. You have to remember there are other people who are just as excited as you are and want to meet Joe. Let's share the good times with the boss man!

I try as much as I can to fulfill all Meet and greet requests. Sometimes its just not feasible.
Joe wants to meet as many people as possible but if we had 200 people at the meet and greet then we wouldn't even have time for him to put on a kick ace show lol.

So remember if you are interested in getting a meet and greet with Joe your best bet is to help out with the street team by signing up and help spreading the word.

Re: Meet and Greets?

Yeah, that's quite reasonable. This is another reason I wish I had "discovered" Joe earlier...  hmm  Not as much chance to meet him now, esp. given that my ability to travel to shows is quite limited with my family situation (2 young kids). I can only make if it Joe happens to come nearby (as in PA in March).

Oh well, that didn't stop me from sending a request to Alexis. One can always hope.  big_smile

Thanks Alex-JR, much appreciated reply.   big_smile  I think part of what I was trying to say also is that some people didn't realize they could ask.

Wowzer, never occurred to me to ask.  Added:- in that I didn't know you could.

Re: Meet and Greets?

Joe is one of the hardest working artists out there and appreciates every one of his fans-new and old.  I would have to believe that if he is not coming out after a show to sign autographs or just shake hands with a few people it is only because he is hightailing it off to another venue and simply does not have the time.  He is definitely a busy man which is the very position that he has worked so hard to be in.  Does make for a double edged sword for the fans, happy for him for being so much in demand, but also sad about accessability to him.     hmm

I definitely think that's part of it. I've gotten to meet Joe twice (once in 2005 and and once in 2006) out of the five shows I've seen. When I saw Joe in 2006, he was as sick as a dog. Nevertheless, he played for at least an hour and a half that night at B.B. Kings in NYC. Afterwards, he did the meet and greet and I unfortunately caught his cold! He took a picture with me (my avatar) signed my copy of "You & Me", and my "Had to Cry Today" poster so it was totally worth it! LOL I was unable to get a chance to say hi the last three times I saw him. However, the third time, I was chatting with Crosby Loggins (Kenny Loggins' son who opened for Joe that day) after the show and he was telling me the massive number of meet and greets Joe had been doing was affecting his health since he was shaking so many fans' hands and getting close with them in pictures and stuff. He even said that Joe gave him a bottle of Purell Hand Sanitizer for his meet and greets so he could avoid catching as many colds as he had. I laughed, told him my story, and then Crosby offered to get Joe to sign my copy of "Had to Cry Today". I of course obliged and he returned with Joe's sig on it. All of my signed stuff is on the wall in my study by my Bonamassa Burst LP!  smile

Re: Meet and Greets?

Never been to a meet and greet, but i've found hanging out the back by the stage door worked for me twice,Edinburgh and Newcastle City Hall.Sure you have to wait a while,an hour or so for Joe himself, but Carmine and Rick came out back within a half hour of the gear being loaded up,Bogie even came down out the bus after asking Joe cos i missed him first time round! It helped i was on my own-the wife not too keen to stand for an hour or more-and we were staying over in a hotel, but,Miles Kennedy from Alter Bridge kept us waitng for nearly FOUR hours recently in Glasgow! Fair enough,Brian,Scott and Mark all trotted out at 40 minute int
ervals or so,,but to get complete sigs on a cd cover,i wasn't gonna give up after three hours! If you're not in a hurry to get home after i gig, wrap up warm and make yourself known to security helps sometimes, the rewards are worth it!

Come on you Blades!

Re: Meet and Greets?

I was able to go to a meet n greet after I purchased the Goldtop Litho... Alex was great at coordinating the meet n greet as well as our seats for the show. I have also been able to have things signed and taken a few photos after the concerts. Joe seems to be pretty great at coming out by the tour bus and signing away for us grateful fans. As the crowds continue to grow, I am sure this may change, but bless Joe for all of his efforts for us! Helping out with the street team is the least we can do in exchange for a handshake or photo op, accompanied by a lifetimes worth of fantastic music  big_smile There are no fans like a BonaFan!
