Re: Anaheim

Yippee!!!! Add my name to the list of excited fans. I HATE down time. Show reviews take me back to my last experience and always leave me grinning. Big changes this time. Please let us know about the new guitar tech. It'll be weird not seeing Dave  sad  I would also like to know about the lights. Essentially I'm asking for a blow-by-blow account, lots of pics and vids. I'm not asking for much  big_smile  Have a grand time at the Kickoff for 2011!!!!       Cathy

Re: Anaheim

Have fun guys.  I got to go to kickoff night for a tour leg two years ago (pre-RAH).  It's a cool feeling.  Can't wait for the reviews.

Re: Anaheim

OK tonight is the big show!

For all you first timers at the Grove here's how it works:

If you have seats in Tier 1 you should have received a "Tier 1 VIP Access" pass, if so present this to the parking attendent and your parking is free and in the VIP lot, the VIP lot is right in front of the venue and allows a very quick exit.

If you do not have Tier 1 tickets parking is $10.

Tier 1 ticket holders also are granted access to the "Terra Rosa VIP lounge". If you choose to have dinner at the venue (this is a dinner show) then you would eat in the lounge before the show as there are no tables in Tier 1 just rows of seats. Tier 1 ticket holders are NOT required to buy dinner at the venue.  If you are in Tier 2 and 3 most of you are required to purchase dinner you have already paid $20 towards dinner in your ticket price. These two tiers are set up with tables not rows of seats. Tier 4 or 5 does not have to purchase dinner.

The entrance to the VIP Terra Rosa lounge faces the parking lot, (away from Katella) if you do not have Tier 1 seats and try to enter here you will be directed around the building to the front entrance.

The pre show meet up is at The Catch, this is located right across the parking lot entrance driveway, parking anywhere in the Grove's lots will be easy walking distance to the Catch so no need to worry about moving your car.

This is a sell out so I recommend you get there early.

SHOW TIME IS 8:00 NOT 8:30 AS SHOWN ON YOUR TICKET. Joe tends to start on time so don't be late for the 8:00 SHOW TIME.

Look for me I'm very tall, and will be wearing a white Pink Floyd The Wall shirt, come by and say hi.

Rock on!

Re: Anaheim

Wow!  I can't think of any other word.  The show rocked, opened with Cradle Rock and closed with Mountian time and a 2 song encore, Bird on a wire and Just got paid.  Dust bowl was #7 and it was really cool.  cool

Show was a bit "rough" (that's what Joe said after) but I loved it.

OK two edits I'm tired

More later

Re: Anaheim

What a show.

Susan and i get to the venue early so we walk across the street to get some dinner and..what do you know, there's one Joseph Leonard Bonamassa having dinner at the bar.  Several people recognized him, but everyone left him alone while he was eating.  After he was done with dinner, he took a few pictures with some folks and headed back to the venue

At about 7:55 p.m. Two Minutes to Midnight began blaring out of the speakers and I knew my world was about to be rocked.

At precisely 8:00 p.m., the man in black came on stage.  Black shirt, black suit jacket, black suit pants, black dress shoes and dark sunglasses.  It was cool for the word go.

Set list and guitars (well, most of the guitars anyway)

Cradle Rock (Bonaburst)
So Many Roads
When The Fire Hits The Sea
So It's like That (Signatute JB Goldtop)
If Heartaches were Nickels (man oh man, what an unbelievabley soulful rendition)
Sloe Train (new guitar, can't remember the name.  les paul body, single pickup, firebird headstock...pretty cool looking actually)
Dustbowl (gibson les paul with bigsby tailpiece...you know the one, it's pictured on his equipment truck).  And Oh...if you think the studio vesion of this song is hot, you ain't heard nothing yet.  Holy crap, Joe & the boys kill it on that one.
You Better Watch Yourself
Steel Your Heart Away
Sloe Gin
John Henry (candy apple blue signature JB LP) New arrangement.  i like this one a whole lot better than the original.  I know I'm in the minority, but I love this version
Lonesome Road Blues (Red Gibson 355.  possibly the coolest guitar ever built, IMHO)
Happier Times
Blue & Evil (gibson firebird)
Great Flood (JB LP goldtop)
Young Mans Blues (White SG double neck.  first time I've seen this one)
Woke Up Dreaming
Django/Mountain Time (Music Man)
Encore:
Bird on a Wire (Giglioti)
Just Got Paid (Flying V...obviousely)

The coolest thing about tonight is that I get to see this show two more times and i cannot freakin wait.

As to the newest band member, Tal Bergman, he was magnificant.  He fit in perfectly and it was obvious during the show he was having the time of his life.  He and Joe hit it off on stage and the chemistry is there for all to see.

Got to meet several bonaholics...Front Row Fred (Chris) and Forever Young (Johnny).

That's all for tonight.  I took a bunch of pictures (no flash so keep your expectations low) and I'll post them on JBXP tomorrow.  As for now, It's midnight in CA, I'm tired and i need to go rest for the next two shows.

Ticket for free? well yes I want one.

Re: Anaheim

Thanks Rockfarmer for the fab review!  First review of the first show of the year and it's fair to say that we in the UK are going to be just a teensy weensy bit jealous for the next few months.  But we can share in all the excitement just the same!

I like the setlist.  Good to see Steal your Heart there plus Dustbowl and Slow Train.  Wow, bet the place was rocking out to those two!

If I could take Rocket up on his offer of a free ticket, I'd bite his hand off!
