The omission that floors me is THE VOICE, Roy Orbison. A singer so good other acts refused to share billing due to intimidation. I guess the list was just fairly modern?
Rick

Well that's A singer but not a lead singer in the sense of leading a regular band.  We have had singer threads before maybe time to resurface... Plus look at the source of the poll...ridiculous...

Re: "Axl Rose Named Greatest Lead Singer"

I saw on the list that they weren't looking for just the "best vocalist" but rather "the whole package".  I'd probably have to go with Freddie Mercury only because he has both parts to the extreme.  For me I've always seen Freddie Mercury more of a theatrical singer/performance artist.   An outstanding vocalist who loved and was the all-out stage production.

But if it is just "best vocalist":

Well, of course for me "Perfect Pitch""The Voice" Paul Rodgers is my 1-100 greatest singer  tongue
Rock n Roll Fantasy, my whole music world change when I heard him sing just 1 note.  I couldn't imagine music without Paul.
Not only does he have the best voice for me, but he best knows how to use it and is a true vocalist for the song and not just a singer.  His vocals interpret and bring emotions to his and others lyrics.  And of course the great bands he was in and all the songs that he wrote just makes him my no 1.  Paul has a very dignified stage presence, like he is  royalty holding court.

Now at no. 101 for me has to be Philip Bailey of the legendary Earth Wind and Fire.  I'm pretty sure he can shatter crystal into a thousand pieces with one of the best falsettos of all-time.  He's a "Shining Star"

Thanks to Marty for listing some others that deservedly need to be there.

Steve Perry,  and David Coverdale.  Also got to have Joe Lynn Turner and James Dewar. Oh and not just an awesome guitarist but a fantastic singer that makes Triumph one of my favorite groups of all time,Rik Emmett.  And of course, Steve Marriott who gave it his all and more.

For Soul Singers you need an encyclopedia. Who can't sing would be more the list.
