UK fortunately earned a bye in the SEC tourney with the win against Tennessee and played one of their best games of the season against a good Alabama team that beat us during the regular season. As Rick mentioned 2 late ankle injuries for 2 key players (we only rotate 6) will make a huge difference against the Gators today. As of late yesterday, it didn't look good for Lamb however in his interview he said he would play, others not so confident, we'll know here in a few? Lastly Morehead State winning the Ohio Valley Conference and as one of the early teams with a bid. Their Kenneth Faried leads NCAA Division I in rebounding for the 2nd consecutive year, averaging 14.5 a game!

I'm on the blist. Good luck today! Still buzzing from the game last night. Billy White set the stage early with a steal from Jimmer and resulting JAM followed by a chest thumping roar at the hated BYU bench, then followed up with a career game. The team played with emotion and fire, a joy to behold. Hope your boys leave you feeling the same.

Out come the scissors and #1's smile.  big_smile No problem there today. Cats in the hunt too now.

Well, time to put up or shut up. We get the good bracket and #1's Kitties too. Aztec's big chance to prove the pundits of the east wrong and The Show will be fully present as this is practically a home field in Tuscon, then Anaheim is even closer. Good Luck! Go Aztecs. big_smile

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hey Liz,
Just a heads up, there is a big article on Coach Calipari in the current Sports Illustrated. (March 14th-Joe DiMaggio on cover).  Its really long & I'm not through it yet, but it looks like its an effort to repair his image from his past.

Rocket and Rick - I understand  the meaning of what Rocket was talking about with SDSU and the seed, cause I feel 'Nova would have had an easier path as a 10 or 11, as opposed to a 9.  Most of the ESPN guys think George Mason will beat us, if we did win, we'd be up against #1 Ohio State in the next round.   big_smile

2 other local teams I'd be rooting for are Temple & Penn State, I'm bummed their playing each other, but we both graduated from Temple, so we'll be rooting for them, which means we may meet up with you Rick.  wink  The local east coast buzz is you'll make it to the Sweet 16...

I can't recall there ever being so much buzz about the seeding and the snubs...

Local bracket coverage has the final 4 as, Duke vs. UConn and Kansas vs. Pitt, then Pitt vs. Duke in the final.  Like we all know, anything can happen!!! Good luck to everyone.  smile

Re: NCAA Basketball

no one is completely satisfied with the committee's selections year to year. This was no different, Alabama, VT and Colorado were left off. What really irks me is Georgia at a #10 seed, when we just beat them twice in the last 2 weeks, including the amazing comeback in OT on Friday. Colorado should have had that 10 seed, and they could have left us both out if they really thought that UAB and VCU were that much better. Indeed they are not. I will concede our out of conference was a mess, but that was early on. On to the tourney nonetheless, I will pull heartily for our SEC teams, including Georgia who is virtually one and done. Good luck to all of you with teams that made it in, should be another barnbarner (C Barkley). smile

Re: NCAA Basketball

Well my Rebels didn’t have a chance to win the MWC thanks to Rick’s Aztecs, but it was close. Good luck to everyone that made it to the NCAA tournament. My Rebels are off to Tulsa to play Illinois. UNLV Go Fight Win!

Re: NCAA Basketball

Still no respect, CBS cut to the other 3 teams in the selection announcements in the final west bracket, not to the 2500 fans and team in Viejas Center, the graphic also posted us as SD St., which is South Dakota ST. roll
The omission of 'Bama had me blinking too. The stink of politics wafts from the selection committee. Colorado surely deserved better as well.
Coach Fisher is very happy with the 2 seed. Not having to travel cross country and having a large contingent of rabid fans has got to be good, with the first two venues basically close enough to be home. I expect the MWC selections to go deep this year. UNLV, BYU and SDSU are, hopefully, going to open some eyes back east. If our Aztecs play the way they came out in Vegas, they can beat any team in the nation. Did anyone watch the ESPN feature on the fab five? Coach Fisher had lots of features in it.
I'll be disappointed if the Aztecs aren't playing Duke in a bit.
Good luck to all.

Re: NCAA Basketball

you're not going to believe this Rick, but until last night I didn't know who Coach Fisher was. It just never occured to me that it was the same guy. I watched ESPN's Fab5 special last night, and went duuuuuh? I also didn't realize how much hate mail both players and coaches had to endure in those 2 seasons at Michigan. Some of it was just brutal and disgusting. I really like Steve and hope they do well, he has certainly paid the dues to deserve this.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hah, how funny Tres. I'd mentioned it but not directly. Fisher went from the top to here with little fanfare. He's built this from scratch and started with nothing. We're hoping this will be his reward. This is his Team, not some star with a supporting cast. Big, long, quick, very athletic and selfless to a fault. Fisher dropped a Freudian slip today, mentioning in an interview they'd be off to Houston soon! lol

Re: NCAA Basketball

Thanks for the invite Liz, but I've already filled out a few and my head is in a fog. I do have KY beating OSU, but then losing to Duke in the final four. I also have the UAB/Clemson winner beating WV to set up yet another possible UAB vs KY, I hope. Not that I'm pulling for UAB, they just put on a great show when they play each other. I have Kansas winning it all.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Bracket buster for sure with Morehead. I didn't see that one coming. Aztecs had me veeerrry nervous starting out. Tossing bricks from 2 ft etc. Took a half for them to settle down, then business as usual with our big forwards racking double doubles. I hope they got that out of their system now.  See your Temple crew Sat. Angela.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I didn't get to watch any of the games on St. Patrick's Day, BUT when I saw the highlights I was in disbelief!  Princeton given Liz's team a run, could not believe it...Princeton got in on an exciting buzzer beater.  The coach is very admirable, he was so overcome with emotion after losing to Kentucky, he could not stop crying.  I don't know for sure cause I'm not caught up, but I guess Princeton was maybe ahead at some time during the game and they could have almost won...Louisville WILD, I'm not sure I've ever heard of Morehead...  Then Richmond...

Rick, about Temple, originally from the Big 5, before 'Nova switched to the Big East.  'Nova still plays those teams, now in different divisions,  and after we beat Temple this year, I remember looking up Juan Fernandez, because he was such a stand out. I see he scored the game winning points.  Since we went to 3 of the big 5 teams, we have extra love to spread around.  wink

Temple's Coach Dunphy has been around the Big 5 forever, playing for one of the school's in college.  Before Temple, he was at University of Penn (now ivy league division) for 17 years.  Before big business and $$$ in college sports was a big factor, going back, there was nothing more exciting than watching the Big 5 games in Penn's small arena, the Palestra.  Temple has their work cut out for them Saturday, see you on the court Rick...  wink   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestra

Thanks for the Temple rundown. Just like our team to those back east, we don't get much of the lesser conference play out here. Definitely not a team to be taken lightly and a more worthy opponent than round 1.
