Hi Angela, my name is Liz and I am addicted to college basketball too! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to watch as many games as I would like to this season. I haven't been home as much on the weekends and I can't seem to gain control of the remote for the weeknight games. I only get bits & pieces during the commercials of other shows ughhh!  I have watched most of UK's games and it's been quite frustrating for this Cat fan. We have no bench, except at home and that's because our 7th man is the Big Blue Nation. Like you I SCREAM at the tv and I've been doing a lot of that this season  mad  March almost here! Bring it on! I think the tourney this year will be an exciting one for sure  cool

Liz, I got my better half,  who is not much of a sports fan, a TV in the family room off the kitchen. She cooks and watches and can sit and peacefully watch chick flicks when sports are on.  smile

The big showdown tomorrow on national TV. SDSU vs. BYU. Can our boys stop Jimmer? For sure the biggest game in State's history. Students camped out 3 days for tickets.

Re: NCAA Basketball

great game at the half, SDSU kinda got the better of Jimmer there at the end. Leonard is a beast, but BYU has other good shooters as well. Will SDSU defense continue to keep it up?, that I think will be the key. I agree whoever wins it should be a #1 seed.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Dissapointing effort inside. They solved Jimmer but when you can't make multiple attempts at close shots and free throws, you don't deserve to win. BYU got hot shooting treys and that was that. They are a great team. Next try in the league tourney. Looks like a 2 or 3 seed in March.

NO worries!  Cools the hype and that is what is always need with ANYTHING SD.  Reality form here on out, and a 3 to even 6 seed is a good thing for anyone's team in the tournament in my opinion.  Much better than 1 or 2.  Remember last year Rick?  SDSU lost to Tennessee by 3, the team who went all the way until barely losing to MSU who barely lost to Butler, (who had narrowly hamstrung my #1 Orangemen early on), who barely lost to #1 Duke....

Speaking of my Orangemen, looks like they got their visitor's revenge on 'Nova, Angela  wink , as well as the same with Georgetown today  smile ...It's creeping on towards us... yikes
It's all around the corner!

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hey Rocket,

We were there witnessing visitors revenge, your Orangemen are heating up at the right time while my Cats are in a tailspin.  I could go on and on...'Nova held a record for shooting foul shots, if they made a couple they missed we would of juiced 'cuse  big_smile  if both Corey's were ON, (Fisher and Stokes) on the same day we could have beat Pittsburgh & St. John's who is the real deal.  And the toughest part of our schedule is now at the end of regular season...Notre Dame and Pitt again, both away.  So, a day in the life of a sports fan...it is what it is and no what if this and what if that...its part of the magic as well as the agony of defeat... wink

Back to the Syracuse game, I was thinking of you Rocket and we sat next to a really fun couple.  The guy graduated from Syracuse and the wife roots for 'Nova because their daughter graduated from there.  The dad told me he roots for 'Nova every game except when they play Syracuse. We had a great time at the game, regardless of the outcome and he was even a good sport when I removed his lucky hat.  lol

I tuned in to most of the second half of Syracuse vs. Georgetown, was rooting for the Orange, what a great win. Georgetown is my least favorite team in the Big East.   Saw some of your game Rick, you guys should go far...Jimmer is amazing even if that wasn't his best game, its a tough team.  Also, caught the end of Virginia Tech beating Duke.  Duke is always sooooo good, it does feel good whenever you can beat them. I never knew Coach K was a West Point grad.

And about St. John's...check out Hardy, he had 34 points against us.  And my hubby was filling me in on Coach Lavin who got a raw deal from UCLA, now really turning it on at St. John's.  And St. John's loves MSG....

Rocket, I can't remember if we talked about this, did you watch that famous overtime Syracuse game at the Garden that went on and on 'til After Midnight?  I do love the Big East! Its cool to share the love with a transplanted left coaster, just hope your politics aren't extreme left, TOTALLY KIDDING, not going there...   big_smile

Re: NCAA Basketball

Well, a flyer right now but I'd say OSU and BYU are in like Flynn for ones. The other two should be between Duke, Kansas and Pitt, but there are the other 3 teams in the top that could change everything when the Conf. tourneys go down. Nice squeaker tonight as UK nipped Vandy. SDSU won easy in 7000+ ft. Wyoming, a place they have had fits at before so no hangover from the BYU loss. They pretty much choked away that game. Hope it served as a lesson.
Rick
Oops, edit. BYU suspends their big man Davies for the rest of the season. That is a big deal! SDSU now looks stronger in the MWC tourney and could win it.

He's the man that gave our forwards fits in rebounding. A huge loss for BYU as he was a primary outlet for Jimmer when he was double teamed. They have no big man to replace him and will have to go with another outside shooter maybe. The rumor is he was caught in a Starbucks on film.  roll (coffee is as bad as booze in the Mormon faith)

I think that it was a bit more serious to them than a cup of coffee. He was out in less than 24 hrs of the notification.

A probably facetious rumor at that, it came up on a local. Nonetheless, a tough blow for BYU. We and your Rebels can breath a bit easier. Great tournament coming up in your home town for sure with ranked teams playing for real meaning.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hey Liz,

I watched the end of your game while I worked at my desk, Vandy put up a fight, the ending was a nail biter I'm sure for you.  My Cats are following a similar pattern to last year, going cold at the wrong time.  mad   I was fearing Notre Dame (we changed the channel several times, was hoping we didn't end up in a 30 point deficit) more than the upcoming Pitt game, which will be our final game on Pitt's turf, which is also their senior night.  My hubby predicted a couple weeks ago, we were going to drop the last 4 games when he looked at the schedule, he's soooooo annoying sometimes...  roll It would be a long shot to beat Pitt in Pittsburgh this Saturday, but it would be a real sweet surprise, visitors revenge as Rocket puts it, since they broke our winning streak at the Pavillion on our ESPN Game Day with our last tying shot a half second too late to go to overtime.

Really tough break for BYU, they can adjust, but its likely going to hurt them, although its good for you Rick.  smile

I hear you about St. John's...I think they got a little magic happening there...the Red Storm is coming... And I hate when a team fires a coach for 1 losing season, after many remarkable seasons, that's the story with Coach Lavin.  The white shirt open collar look is his good luck charm, so that's why he keeps wearing it, according to ESPN.  I think he's got somethin' goin' on, similar to Jay Wright in the looks department.  tongue

Happy March Madness everyone!!!!   wink  Staying on the happy side, even if I get a little mad... big_smile

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hi Liz,

As the Tommy Castro song goes...It I What It Is....the main problem as I see it is the 2 biggest scorers, (both seniors/both named Corey) are playing on and off thru injuries, turf toe, hamstring, etc...

I read this cool interview this morning about the inventor of Bracketolgy. Joe Lunardi teaches at one of the colleges I graduated from.
