Re: NCAA Basketball

The Buckeyes will be a #1 seed in the tournament and should be favored to win it.  If Evan Turner would've came back this year I think they could've gone undefeated.  Had Robbie Hummel not gone down in Purdue's first practice then I'd say they'd be a #1 too.  The Big Ten is a very strong conference this year.

Rocket,
I find it annoying how right you are sometimes! big_smile   Holy smoke, on Sunday I caught the last 8 minutes of St. John stomping on Duke, they were beating them by 21 points a few times!!  I think I need to sprinkle a little pixie dust on both our teams Rocket, except when we meet again in a few weeks...   wink

Re: NCAA Basketball

There does seem to be a lot of mutual beating up out there in the east. Parity rears its head for sure. Our star, K. Leonard now appears to suffer from Mountain Sickness. Our younges son had this when we would go camping at high altitude and we were forced to take him up in stages for a few days, once we realized what was going on.  Kawhi plays well after IV's to replace his lost fluids from the nausea. Next up, Utah St. at altitude.  hmm

Re: NCAA Basketball

Big East looks like a mad scramble is developing with only Pitt a bit above the rest. That is going to be a dandy conference tournament in a few weeks. Our Aztecs won a nail biter last night at CSU with a buzzer beater FTW by DJ Gay. Getting national notice now with prognosticators on ESPN saying final four caliber.  yikes (kiss of death?)

Yes Angie, ALWAYS a big game SU vs. UConn.!!! Thanks for the pixie dust!  Rick, this is every year in the Big East, always an interesting conference championship tournament, somebody gets their clock cleaned (look for it to be Pitt this year  wink) and not for lack of trying to win or taking someone too lightly.

No Rick, it is not the kiss of death to predict they are FF grade.  Don't forget the snub SDSU got in recent history.  Some broadcasters were more affronted than the school even I think. How all "plays out"....we shall see.  Broadcasters love to be the "told you so" type.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Good restart after a couple of tough road losses #1. Big test tonight as Syracuse meets Georgetown and the stretch run commences. I don't see many Cinderellas shaping up in March so far. Seems like a lot of mediocrity after the top 10 level. OSU seems unbeatable for the rest of the season so there is your #1 seed.  Our Aztecs crushed Utah last night even though two starters were out with foot and ankle injuries (nothing serious thankfully). A good chance for the bench to get some time on the floor and our widebody center Carlwell (6-11/300) got some good action. We will need him in some matchups come March. Next game will be another slugfest against UNLV in their house Saturday. Expect some real physical action and a good game if there is coverage in your area.

Re: NCAA Basketball

I saw that blowout score last night Rick. I have my hand up, Alabama might be a cinderella by March. no, probably not.
We have a huge game tommorrow night at Vandy. We took Tenn on the road last Saturday, and they confirmed their mediocrity last night vs Kentucky. I think Joe Lunardi has us right now as a 12th seed, I'll take it considering recent years troubles.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Sometimes you do get a few bad calls when playing on the road, and you just have to overcome them. Alabama gave up way too many 3's in the first half and could not "finish the deal" as Nick Saban would say. If you tuned into ESPN-SC this morning they ran the end play for Alabama where J Green was ruled to have stepped on the baseline. Replay looked inconclusive but photos posted elsewhere today show clearly he did not, and he was then fouled putting up a shot. Coach Grant was livid at the end, never seen him that animated. Oh well, we haven't beaten Vandy there since 1990. Bring on the easier ones now and let's prepare for tourney time.

Tough call Tres. You can get a look at BYU and SDSU on the 28th. It is being carried nationally, and called by the #1 CBS BB team. 11 AM Pacific live. Finally national attention. Hope they don't fall flat. This should be a dandy! At the Aztec's home arena.

Could've sworn I saw a post by Angela about Syracuse and Georgetown coming up, which turned out as I expected as Georgetown did what Georgetown does best-beat up Syracuse-AT HOME!!  Annual expectation almost.  Betting the Orangemen lose today against Louisville..... I expect it, especially since Rick Pitino is a Boeheim protégé...

My name is Angela and I AM ADDICTED TO COLLEGE BASKETBALL!

Watching a battle between Ohio State and Wisconsin, WOW, tied with 7 minutes left.  Jdawg, how about this game!!

Tres, I only caught the last 6.5 seconds of that Alabama game against Vanderbilt, right about the time the 'bama coach was totally freakin' out.  I'm thinking the only reason he didn't get a technical is because the ref was second guessing the call.  My hubby and I were just talkin' about bad calls and then how refs do make-up calls.  Unfortunately, when its the end of the game, nothing can be done and a bad call stings for a long time.

I'm married to a guy who screams at the TV.  big_smile The away game the other night of Nova' vs. Rutgers, we were up 10 points with 2 minutes to go. Rutgers stole the ball twice and made 3 pointers.  When we were 3 points ahead, we should have fowled, but no, they came down shot another 3, then 'nova fowled by accident and we lost by 1 point. It was the kind of ending where you sit there with your mouth hung open, like what just happened!!   roll (it reminded me of how the NY Giants must have felt when the Eagles beat them in the 4th quarter when DeSean Jackson performed magic)

Anyway, its ESPN Game Day at 'Nova today, I saw my middle kid on TV this morning, he was up at 5AM to get a choice seat. All 3 of my children currently attend Villanova, we're just a little diehard! wink  We are going to a HUGE game tonight vs. the GIANT of the Big East Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh wants revenge on us for keeping them from advancing to the Final Four in '09 and they would love to break our winnin streak at the Pavillion.  I'm just a little nervous with anticipation... tongue  Rocket, I hope you're right about your previous Pittsburgh comments... I got your team to win with pixie dust previously, wish us luck!!  big_smile  Yeah, and Georgetown and St. John's are both coming on real strong.

Jdawg must be on the edge of his seat, Ohio losing by 4 w/ a minute left...I think Ohio might be going down, but anything can happen in 3 seconds in a 3 point game...Wisconsin wins by 4!

Anyway, Louisvile smoked Syracuse, as expected.  Thuh Ohio State went down, as expected. By me. Angela gets annoyed by me being right?  Jim Boeheim annoys me with HIS total frankness and being right.  His early on calling this year's SU squad the most overrated in his coaching career is playing out as HE expectorated....

Well, I was screaming at the TV tonight as well. RikEmmetfan's Running Rebels gave the Aztecs a big scare and put up a heck of a fight in the 2nd period before tough D and deadeye shooting at the line put them away. Talk by the pundits tonight of the MWC getting 4 seeds in the big contest this year over the usual suspects. It has turned into a very tough league. BYU, UNM, UNLV, Colorado State and SDSU all are good. Never would have figured State to be 25-1, best in the country. These kids can play!

What a game! It was a packed house and the crowd was so loud it felt like the early 90 with Tark again. The Rebels put up a good fight but just one of eighteen from downtown made the difference. The section of SD fan next me were happy to make the trip to Vegas for the game. We will get you back in the tournament and on to the sweet sixteen.

I saw Tark in the stands on the TV! Quite a weekend for top college hoops. Angela's Nova just getting nipped at the last tick for a chance to upset Pitt too! I've a feeling the March Madness will produce some very good games. On to the tournament and that is in your house again. See you in a week.  smile

Re: NCAA Basketball

Rick,
All I can say about last night is: OUCH!! The Cats played so well the first half, up by 4.  But, the difference between a good coach and a great coach is adjusting and Pitt did just that the second half and according to my husband's rants, Jay Wright's got everything going for him, BUT his 2 minute down to the wire game. (must be a Philly thing, I say the same thing about Andy Reid)  big_smile  The Rutgers loss hurt more for me, but since we actually could have beat Pitt, the hour ride home was an on and on replay by the hubby. hmm   Jay had 'Nova playing an inside game, when so many times they could have shot the 3 and wasted so much time playing with the ball which led to turnovers. (fiddling & f...ing around w/the ball--as per hubby) I rarely ever say this, but the refs were really inconsistent last night: the one ref overturned the other refs decision twice...and they were settling disputes, calling technical for each side... I've never been at a game with so much yelling at the refs by fans!!  Anyway, my daughter got on TV, her friend from University of Rhode Island texted her saying she saw her, she was right behind the male students with no shirts painted blue "CATS". I totally forgot to DVR the game.

Tough schedule coming up, we have to play Notre Dame, St. Johns (who is lighting up) and Pitt again in Pittsburgh!

Anyway, my husband said now that's its over, the highlight was Erin Andrews prancing on the hardwood with at least 6-7 inch spiked heels!!  I'm wondering if she had those implants put in the ball of her foot to make walking in totally arched spiked heels doable????  big_smile (I'm telling you, she made Grace's heels look like slippers!!!)  Erin was flanked by 2 weaponed police officers, one on each side at all times.  A guy we know got his Game Day shirt signed by Erin on his shoulder, he'll probably wrap the shirt around his pillow.... lol

And Ryan Howard from the Phillies was in the house, which was very cool.  Last week 4 of the Flyers were in attendance.
