That floor design sounds crazy. Aztecs played that tournament around Christmas in that rodeo stadium with one end black and the other white. It affected the scoring a lot on the black end.

A big Amen about ESPN bias.  Your Aztecs will never be worthy in their eyes.  As for the Big East being the best conference, I think the Big Ten could give them a run for the money this year.  If Purdue's best player hadn't gone down before the season I'd say they would have been a top three team along with tO$U and Duke.

A very nice piece in the morning fishwrap about Coach Fisher and the miracle job he has done here, taking it from zip.  http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/sports/aztecs/
Tipoff at 3 for the very tough game at UNM's Pit. Deafening noise and a mile high. A cute smart quote from UNLV's former Coach Tarkanian at Wyoming's 7200 ft to a player. "Don't worry about the thin air, it is inside and pressurized like an airplane"  lol

Re: NCAA Basketball

we were off to a 2-0 SEC start, however just went down in self inflicted flames at Arkansas. It was an ugly ending for Bama. I know we are not going anywhere, but will watch if on local TV. Off to Kentucky next and so will assume the 2-2 record, so no reason to get even remotely excited. I am excited about SDSU, watching them closely and best of luck in the Pit. I also like BYU and that one Jimmer Fredette, he is a crazy accurate shooter in the LBird vein. also watching Auburn big_smile , they beat FLA ST, and FLA ST beat Duke, so it follows that......

Rick,
Congrats to your Aztecs' great road victory over a good New Mexico team.  This is a magical year for State and since my team sucks this year I think I'll start pulling for your team.  I've always thought Steve Fisher was more than a one-shot-wonder and this year's team prooves it.  Look out though for him returning next year.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Wow!   82-44 loss to Kentuckey.  Our A.D. is from Duke.  Hope he doesn't lollygag in replacing our coach.  This is embaressing.

They did something unheard of. They dominated at the Pit as the fans sat in stunned silence! UNM had won 5 straight against ranked teams. This team is really good! Maybe some east coast attention will be garnered now. #4? Root on for Cinderella. Next big showdown is BYU after a weak AFA. Fisher may want to stick around, he is having a good time.

I would like to think that Arkansas had something to do with some of that. It looked to me like Arkansas's defense finally got into that point guard's head a little bit the final 2 minutes. It took the whole friggin' game, because that guy played amazing for 38 minutes. Alabama's a tough team. I have mad respect for the coach Anthony Grant. Tough, hard-nosed team. They're on their way up. Just like, hopefully, Arkansas is. smile

Rocket,
Did you watch your Orangeman vs.Pitt???  What a wild game of scoring runs!! I realize your top guy was out, but 19-0 for starts!!!!  I was hoping Syracuse would win so they wouldn't be too angry at the Dome facing the Wildcats!  roll   I can't believe we have to face Pitt on 'Nova's day to be focused on by ESPN. Yikes!!

Since 'Nova's game was at 3:30 I brought a transistor radio to work and listened.  Tight game, Nova was up more than they were down, but in the end when it was tied at 2.5 seconds we lost by a bucket.  Corey Fisher apparently is childhood friends with the Uconn's Walker who scored the winning shot.

Re: NCAA Basketball

of course I'm going to crow about Bama if we win at home. There's no place like home, just ask Deez, he was right that Arkansas had a lot to do with the loss there. I thought this was going to be an easy win early on, but KY fought back intensely. Tony Mitchell played some great ball, and our little guard that stole that one at the end played some good defense. At least the students didn't storm the court. I don't look forward to going to KY for the rematch, they will be looking for payback.

I see where Calipari apologized for the F-bombs he laid on at least one player. I could read his lips, there were a bunch of them. He should get together with JB at Syracuse to compare notes, Jim may well have the foulest mouth of all NCAAB coaches.

yeah, I watched this last night in amazement; not much else to do in Brady TX.    Well done Tide.

Did not get to watch dear, but yes, the wild scoring runs-the Big Beasts are off and running again! 19-0 for a 19-0 team, ironic. Believe it or not, I always look forward to Syracuse's fist loss of the season, especially when they get ranked too high and approach 20-0!!!! I hate that too quick too easy two weezy start! Boeheim ALWAYS hits a 20 win season, so I don't need to see them "stand out" record wise.  Once the Big East gets rolling, we truly start to separate the wheat from the chaff.  But the chaff can always harvest a win against a top grain team here and there. It's what makes the Big East most interesting conference to me.  Survive the Big East, and you can survive anything, anywhere......if you live long enough to celebrate come March Madness! No worries!  Tough loss at UConn, always no shame in that.  Your Wildcats are looking pretty darn good, some good wins so far.  Good luck on Saturday! Is your daughter going to be holding a sign up saying "Hi Mom"?! Not sure of any broadcast here,  neutral always got them back east, not a given here  sad .

Re: NCAA Basketball

Hi Rocket,

I only caught the last 4 minutes of the Syracuse game, but saw all the highlights. I'm not sure you understood me, Pitt had the first run and was beating Syracuse 19-0, just crazy!

Anyway, I told my daughter to keep a low profile, stay with her group, don't go to the restroom by herself and wear a coat on top of any 'Nova attire when walking around. wink I wasn't always neurotic, its the kids fault!  big_smile  The group is staying overnight near the stadium on Friday night and heading back Saturday shortly after the game.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Watch our Soph. Kawhi Leonard if you get the chance. The word is out that he will be playing in the NBA next year. Depending on the number of college men entering the draft, he could go as high as #10, making him an instant millionaire. Power forwards with a guard's quickness are few and far between. He one-hands a basketball like we grab a baseball. Huge hands.

Yes I understood.  It was a 19-0 record for Syracuse with teh game starting out looking to lose at home, with Pitt having an 0-19 run on 'em!  yikes !  Usually the Orange are good at that kind of ridiculous run... Still no worries.

ROCKET, CAN YOU HEAR ME?????

I am soooooooooo PUMPED!!!  I have enough energy to run a 5K, great win by my Wildcats!!!  I am so happy they delivered for my daughter too, it would have been nice if the crowd broke the record from last year with her there, but I'll take the win.   smile She said the arena is totally awesome!

If you're not getting the games out there and you ever want me to record a game for you, the old fashion way, on a VCR tape, I could Fed-Ex it to you.  Don't hesitate to ask.

I hear ya Angela, crowd noise has no effect! Congratulations to you, your daughter, and Villanova. Impressive win.   I believe they were more accurately ranked. Now you can have the Wildcats move up in the rankings. I have to agree with Coach Boeheim about them (his Syracuse team, not 'Nova) being the most overrated team he has coached.  Watch their record drop to 5 losses very quickly.  They might not even make they NCAA tourney, although that is my long shot cynical view, as playing in the Big East, once again, as you well know, makes you either much stronger or bleeds you out, and there is no attention to national rankings anymore as the conference season progresses.  It's purely intra-conference rankings that truly matter from here on out.

Yes, the Carrier Dome is awesome, it could even host the next Crossroads Guitar Festival  wink  and still seem outdoorsy-the sunlight would shed light inside through the translucent roof, but the famous Carrier air-conditioning would keep the crowd comfy  cool  cool  cool to the max!!! No need to worry about field conditions later either!!!  lol  lol  lol  lol  lol

Again, nice game!

Re: NCAA Basketball

They Noticed! Lawdy be, SDSU splashed on the front of ESPN online BB page!!!!
Here is your chance to see a great game. #4 SDSU vs. #9 BYU on Wednesday. CBS big time now for the MWC showdown.
Watch for either Gay or Leonard to be in Fredette's face all day long. I don't think he will put up 40. I expect a bruiser since BYU is not a physical team and State will want to take it to them on the inside where they dominate with their big men.
