Re: NCAA Basketball

Georgia still has some stuff going on Tres. Exciting day of bb yesterday with all those 1 pt. games down to the wire. There's a lot of parity out there and I'm sure some more big names will be making premature departures.
Ours are up tonight, probably will be over way past your bedtime.
Go AZTECS!

Re: NCAA Basketball

All the pregame pundits picked St. John's. smile Their lack of depth killed them. Out of gas in the 2nd half and in foul trouble early. The Aztecs came out shooting well enough and their D ground them down with the bench rotation contributing 20 and an endless supply of fresh legs. Duke won't be so easy but they match up well. I think the Aztecs can win again.
Rick
edit. Not the day you wanted stomach flu to hit the team. sad  They looked worse than I've seen in years. A step slow and tossing the ball away a lot in a sloppy effort. A shame the nation couldn't have seen them better.
The morning report says that almost the entire team and support staff came down with that bug the evening before the game and many were unable to board the bus after the game until the effects had lessened as it worked its way through the team. Coach Fisher waived off the pregame handshake with Coach K  and his staff, warning of the sickness whereupon they did an about face and returned to the bench. Given the contagion and close contact, Duke is sure to contract it too. I hope they recover before the next game.
Good luck Lizzee.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Sorry Lizzee, you must still be numb.

A 12 year-old 6th grader had the best bracket, but is under age to collect. I heard the 6th grader interviewed on ESPN and he said he didn't know how Villanova lost that game.  Believe me it felt like we lost by 30 points instead of 3 points.  Thumbs up to Jimmy Fallon for having the crying Villanova picollo band member on the Tonight show.  (took some pain away from the fans.)

Mitt Romney finished in the 99.9 percentile with a great bracket!

Re: NCAA Basketball

CONGRATS! Love Coach K, he is a class act!  I liked both teams in the final, I was leaning towards Wisconsin mainly because their coach is a local guy and they hadn't come this far and Duke wins alot. It was a great game, just didn't like that one call towards the end that favored Duke. It looked like Duke touched it last. Wisconsin was wilting towards the end, game changing, probably not.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Well, it's Turkey Tourney Time! Our favorite teams are out there shaking off the rust and playing some ball.
My  Aztecs, changed a lot and have some new talent. So far they've been maddening, winning by a hair and then losing by a lot to an unheralded Little Rock at home. That one stung! Now the game came that would let us know if it was time to resign ourselves to a so-so season with expectations dashed. 14th ranked Cal in a late night game on Thanksgiving in Las Vegas before a thin crowd. Down by 15 entering the 2nd half, I was about to switch it off and give in to the turkey overload but then something happened and the team woke up. They put on a clinic, rolling up a 42-13 half and stunned the Golden Bears.  Maybe there's some hope yet.
We'll see.
Good luck to all you college hoops fans, may your team exceed your dreams.

Re: NCAA Basketball

well they haven't exceeded my dreams.....yet. That would be a trip into the dance in March. Avery Johnson has already made a huge difference at Bama. After getting destroyed by Dayton and Xavier, the Tide bounced back with two great wins against Wichita State and Notre Dame. The talent is mediocre but at least Avery has them on the same page and playing together, the defense has looked like some Bama teams of old in these last two.
The last time Bama beat two ranked teams back to back was in 2006 vs #12 Florida and #8 Tennessee. There is hope.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Bama got a good road win at Clemson last night. They are nothing to write home about, we had to steal an in bounds pass and go nearly the length of the floor for the winning basket with less than 10 seconds. Whew, that was cutting it close. I didn't miss the fact that we may end up playing them in the football championship game. Bama is now 6-2.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Being an Aztecs fan has me turning grayer than I already am.
In the most exciting/aghast game I've ever seen, they kept the preposterous stat "games won with lead and clock less than 5 minutes" alive at now 161 games.
They can't shoot, do stupid things to give away leads, then turn on the defensive magic and crush for the win at the brink of death.

Over and over!

They might make the Dance, but my heart can't stand it.
Love this game!

Re: NCAA Basketball

My University of Dayton Flyers #17 in one poll and #19 in another...Usually the kiss of death...I'll enjoy it while it lasts...Shooting for 20-3 tonight...Archie Miller's best start ever!...If your remember The Flyers made it to the Elite 8 two years ago and to the Sweet 16 last year...

The Other Joe B.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...and, I'm feelin good

Re: NCAA Basketball

Rankings always make me feel the same way. My main team is #1, which is...hard to describe...with all the previous changes in the Big East and all the other great teams out there maybe playing in harder divisions.  Not to sound negative, just being realistic, I kinda' have to pinch myself when I see the rankings. wink

So, 2 of Philly's "Big 5" teams put on a show last night. Villanova beat Temple to a sold old and slightly hostile crowd. One of our freshmen, Jalen Brunson, had his best game ever with 25 points.  He was booed as soon as he walked onto the court, he turned down playing for Temple.  Brunson was pretty much booed the entire game, he never showed any emotion. His Dad went to Temple and played and also went on to play for several NBA teams. The hype was ridiculous leading up to this game. Both Temple and Nova won the 5 previous games.  Pretty much all of Philly was hoping for a big upset!!

And it looks like St. Joe's beat your Dayton team, it was a good win for St. Joe's. Sorry to you though...

Also, if anyone watched that Duke game last night, I cannot believe they pulled off that win!

Way cool Patty! I'm green with envy.
My Aztecs continue the maddening inconsistency, winning nail biters, then losing to chumps. The only way they get to the tourney is by winning the conference tournament. They have a lock on the season but that handful of stupid outings....

Re: NCAA Basketball

Congrats to my Aztecs. They had clinched the conference title by last week and could have rested the regulars and cruised to the MWC tourney, but instead crushed the last two teams in the run to finish at a conference record 16-2 with a 3 game edge on 2nd. Will the NCAA crew notice?
Probably not.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Well, they were passed by the committee for the big dance. Earned a 2 seed in the NIT and went at it with spirit and a we'll show those guys on the committee we belonged attitude.
They proceeded to crush IPFW (hoodat), Washington, then Ga. Tech last night in a bruiser against those wide bodies from the ACC. They're off to Madison Square Garden for the semis and on. They could very well take it all down. Their #2 in the nation D has finally found them shooting as well.
Go Aztecs! Maybe playing with  Eastern exposure will get some respect.  I predict a final against an old rival, BYU.
