Florida lost smile Great game between Duke & Michigan State. Duke is GOOOOD  sad

There's discord at East Lansing this season and I'm surprised they hung with Dook last night.  Noticed the leading scorer was freshman Kyrie Irving who would've been playing for IU this year had it not been for our traitor assistant (and Duke grad) telling him  to play for Coach K.  He was fired shortly afterwards.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Duke is indeed a formidable side again. Top recruiting and a great coach make for good teams year in and out. Our local Aztecs seem to be the real deal this year as the good team of last year has improved under coach Fisher. They easily handled St. Marys, a good team, with tough defense and sharp shooting. 7-0 now with another good team, Wichita State, up next. Seats selling out now as excited locals jump on the wagon. You'll probably get a shot at them on TV soon since the ranking and NBA scouting will give the team a look by the network programmers, even though the MWC isn't considered a hot league and late start times out west put them in snoozeville in the eastern market.

Overrated Cats (drop to 10th) were beat by the way underrated & yet unranked UConn (now #7) are getting ready to tip off with Boston U. Coach Cal's Mother passed away on Sunday after a long battle with cancer. The players wearing black socks & arm bands in her honor. North Carolina is Saturday, wonder if we'll know about Kanter by then? What other good games are going on this week/weekend?

Hi #1.
We are both female college basketballs fans rooting for Wildcats, whose colors are blue and white!! It looks like both of our teams started off overrated, ' Nova lost the NIT tourney to Tenn.

I saw part of that UConn game, yeah the Huskies looked good that night. Shame about your coach losing his mom during the season.  Was he under some heat in the last few years for recruiting violations, I think the UConn coach too...  One of our freshman is in hot water.  Before the season even opened, he seriously hurt another student at a fight that broke out at a party, the parents are pressing charges.  I'll be surprised if he gets off or if Jay lets him stay with the team.  One of my daughter's friends witnessed it, so alot of students were around and saw what happened.

Tomorrow night is Philadelphia's "Holy War" between Villanova and St. Joe's, 2 Catholic universities about 5 miles from each other.  They use to both be part of the Big 5, but 'Nova pulled away to join the Big East years ago, so there is sometimes a little resentment & jealousy being splashed around in the rivalry.  I'm 1 of 6 kids, half of us went to St. Joe's including my dad and half went to 'Nova undergrad and the Law School, so lets say, its all in the family...just good basketball fun, sometimes more like Army vs. Navy.  The Wildcats have won the last 28 out of 40 games against the Hawks.  wink

The former CEO of NutriSystem, Michael Hagan, who totally turned the company profitable, is a St. Joe's grad. He donated $10 million towards their arena.  One of St. Joe's big majors is food marketing.

Yeah, and Coach K. is a class act. I had a funny conversation with the surgeon that operated on my son's knee...he said are you a Duke hater?  Definitely not a hater, but damn was it fun to beat them real bad 2 years ago!  wink They are a good team and they get lots of great recruits...  It is a really, really, really hard school to get into if your not an athlete and you have to be a top athlete and decent student to get in.

I think this thread doesn't usually start until around February when March Madness is heating up...I think #1kyfan gets the prize for DIEHARD College Basketball Fan!!!   big_smile

#1 - I'd be more worried about Dame than the Tar Heels based on recent play, but something tells me today's game will be pivotal to the winner.  Good luck!

Re: NCAA Basketball

Our Cinderella may have a date in March. The Wichita coach, who's been there, said they have the look of a sweet 16 or better squad after the game. 8-0 should get them well ranked in both polls as the powers of the East beat each other up.

Great D #1Kyfan. That is what makes good teams pull out those wins. Nice to hear our local boys getting some recognition. Tonight they beat Cal Bears and now comes a string of weak teams. The win over Cal could propel them to a 14-0 start or better and really grab some press. the 9-0 start is the best in school history and the best in Fisher's 20 year career.  That ESPN tourney of 4 great programs sounds exciting.

It's half time and Notre Dame is tough! Will be a great second half  smile  I know we play with a HUGE target on our back. No matter who we play they always come with their "A" game. With so much talent out their one or 2 guys have a great night we can be beat any game by any team. I have seen a lot of great players have career games against UK because every one plays at their best against us. I love it makes for a great game smile

The North Carolina game was a great game we were in serious foul trouble if it had gone to overtime they would have beat us by a lot more. Hey RickB at halftime on NC game Clark Kellogg had SDSU as one of his teams to watch cool

It was announced today we will compete in ESPN's Champions Classic. Four teams, UK, Duke, Michigan State and Kansas over the next 3 years in mid November. Now this is something to look forward to  cool

Curby, IU game is Saturday! I just love basketball season:)

#1 - I watched the game last night and am really impressed.  Dame went ice cold, but Kentucky had 'em rushing their shots.  The three freshmen will be a force by tournament time.  We have some good players at IU, but playing a Rupp will make this game a rout.  Like I said on an earlier thread, watch out for the Hoosiers in two years.  There's a freshman high schooler from Indy that has already committed to IU who had 30 points and twenty rebounds in his first game.  The guy that was guarding him is a top recruit for tOSU.

Your weak string started w/ Cal Rick. I saw them play UC Davis last Wed.  in Berkeley and would have to say this is one of the weakest teams Cal has had in years.

Re: NCAA Basketball

We'll take a weak Cal JDawg. State's record against the Pac10 has been horrid in the past. The Bears lost a lot of Seniors from the champ team last year and are in a rebuild gap. Aztecs have the town hot right now. Season ticket sales are picking up as Alumni see a shot at some March action and the bandwagon is rolling. Big bench down here too. Cheriot is grousing about being 2nd string.  These kids may have something going but the conference games are still to come with some rated teams to play. Crosstown game tomorrow vs. USD who are a pale ghost of the hot team last year.

Re: NCAA Basketball

Yes #1 that was Tark with Vegas. Ky. does look strong with those good results. Hoosiers too. Our boys have an easy ride for a while with 2nd raters. They do have a troubling habit of slow starts though. Each time they manage to put together a fast 12 to 16 pt run and pull away. It's like they loaf, then oops gotta go.  Won't know how real they are until the conference strong boys show up. Unless they blow one, should get to 14 straight, then TCU, Utah and UNLV in January will tell the tale.

Mmmm. New polls 10/11! Some rarefied air for the Aztecs. Squeaked by CalPoly's tough zone D tonight while resting a few starters and playing ugly. (turned out to be flu)

I saw the replay and that Oakland team is good! Their coach has booked a schedule of top teams for them to play with the intent of winning their conference and making the March tournament. They may knock off another biggie soon.  We were very lucky to escape here with a win over CalPoly. 0 for 18 on treys! Brick city.

Up jumps the devil. SDSU is best in the west at #7 and right behind Rocket's Orangemen. 12-0 and on a roll.

Flu again and a short staff but hung and won with the reserves against USF. 13-0! And another squeaker 14-0.

Should be a great 2nd half at the YUM Center. Any other good games mixed in with all the bowl games coming up this weekend??

#7 RickB, you're ranked higher than us!!!!! Thanks for keeping me posted on the happenins' out west, will be a big help come March smile

Your kitties cruised to an easy win as did our Aztecs who finished non conference play with a gaudy 15-0 record. We'll see what they do now in some of the tough venues in the MWC. They're bound to stub a toe sooner or later. New Mexico's Pit and Air Force at altitude are notoriously tough spots to win at, as well as down in Texas.
The best game out here to watch between football bowls and the parade is Syracuse vs. Notre Dame. That should be a dandy. This will be my first look at Rocket's Orangemen.
edit: The Orange look very good, blowing out ND in the 2nd half with good shooting and D.
reedit. Up to #6? Beating a bad team shouldn't do that much. I wonder about those polls. I can see Syracuse moving up since they handled a ranked team.
TCU away never was so easy! 16-0! Same deal, lazy start, 2nd half rockets.

It's official Kanter is OUT sad  Everyone crying fowl claiming inconsistencies in regard to the Cam Newton case. On a good note the Big Blue Nation gets the best of both worlds with a noon kick off bowl game against Pitt  and new starting QB then a 4:00pm  tip off for our conference opener against Georgia. High temp tomorrow low 20's F perfect day to stay in & watch my CATS. Any other good conference match ups this weekend?

Deezer you still out there? How are Pelphrey's 10-3 Razorbacks doing down there, you're opening against Tenn tomorrow?

Good luck today.  Losing Kanter is huge for this years team.  I read somewhere where he's been  projected as a lottery pick (#3) for the NBA draft.  Higher than Jones or Knight.  With him I think this year's team would've been better than last year's and had a good chance for a title.
