cool I think I paid 7 or 8. Maybe a couple of hundred fans in attendance, all were down front in a 1200 seat hall.  smile

Hi All,

Hey, if Sjmckean is correct, my guitar is number 934 of the 1000. Kind of suprised the number was that high, but oh well.

The main reason I am posting today is to let all of you know that it may be a really good idea to give your new guitar's fretboard a through cleaning and conditioning. I decided to put on a set of my favorite Rotosounds and got out my good old Lizard Spit cleaner/conditioner and whoa, was I suprised.

That fretboard was incredibly dirty. It almost looks like a different guitar now. I am sure the residue is from manufacturing, but I would highly recommend checking yours out if you haven't already. Another one of those "How did this pass QC?"moments.

The new strings seem to have brought the guitar alive too. I normally change them pretty quickly, but usually play the originals for a little while. As a bonus, with the strings off it was a little easier to get the shipping covers off of the pickups.

I just couldn't believe how much residue was on the fretboard. A word to the wise.

Ok now I'm getting weirded out, yours is #934 and Zzounds hasn't even gotten their shippment yet ????

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

I wouldnt worry Jerrdog.  They allocated them between all the major sellers.  I'm sure the larger sellers got theirs first (MF, GC, etc).  I'm also pretty sure they were all made before the first was shipped.  As soon as Zz gets theirs, they'll ship.

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

That's a guy named sixstring63 on the mylespaul forum.  He posted that a few days ago.  Yeah, he's got a very fluid style that's very good.  Good bend control.  I'm jealous!

That's a really nice demo that sixstring63 did. Nice sounds and good playing. I also am jealous.

Jerrdogg, don't worry about the numbers posted. I am sure Sjmckean is correct about the allocations although I am curious as to how that worked with MF and GC since they are the same company. Guitar Center bought Musician's Friend in 1999 and I have no idea if their inventories are separate or combined.

Anyway, I did hook my Epi into the amp this last weekend. Very pleased. Those Burstbuckers kill. Didn't play it through the Sunn too long. The dogs started howling. lol  Everyone's a critic don't you know.  wink

Definitely clean your fretboard though. No one needs dirty fingers!

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Was wondering if anyone can relate to this: I ordered mine from GC the 2nd week of October and have not heard anything.  They told me they don't know why MF received orders already, and when they called Gibson, they were told they were still due to receive their shipment the second week of Jan.  Just not understanding how some who ordered theirs in Nov already received theirs....though I'm happy for those of you who have.

Just an educated guess. Distributors have a tiered system of preferred dealers depending on volume and creditworthiness.
Favored outlets get the goods first. First purchase order in is usually first out as well among the favored sellers. I've cornered a market in the past by committing to a large volume of a product I anticipated as a hot seller. Once, I bought out an entire production run. No discounts on that stuff! smile

I ordered mine from GC on 12-30 (the web site was showing Available, but the next day it was showing a Feb 2011 delivery date), ordered in store via GC.com, using their "same as cash for 12 months" deal with the GC Card.  The guitar shipped on the 30th, had it sent to my local store so I'd have an excuse to go shop in person when it arrived.  I don't know if it helped that I went to the store, or that I applied for a GC Card to make the purchase, but I certainly feel fortunate to have hit a window of opportunity at the right time.....  If I were you I'd escalate your concern to GC Customer Service to insure you're going to receive one of the first guitars to arrive in January.

I agree on this.  I ordered mine from GC in mid December and mine shipped (directly to my house) on 30 December, and I had it on 4 January.
I don't know if this helps, but when I was ordering mine, the GC salesman said they (I don't know if this includes MF or just GC) had ordered a total of 65 and mine was the 51st they had spoken for.  Presumeably, yours is one of those early 50 that maybe is at the warehouse.  Either way, I'd call their customer service.  On a good note, if the numbering convention is what it appears to be on here, mine is number 038, so yours should be a pretty low numbered one! smile

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Do you guys think that to late to order one of these or there all gone by now?

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Josh J,

As of this morning Musician's Friend still shows the guitar as available with a ship date of February 1. I suspect they still have a few left. Considering there were issues with at least a few of them, they may have held some back as a just in case possibility.

I can tell you that I am very pleased with mine. The fat neck takes a little getting used to if you haven't played one before, but in hindsight I kind of like it now. The real skinny neck on my MIM Telecaster feels a little weird after playing the Epi. Not in a bad way, just different.

Order this guitar. I think you will like it.

I am curious to see if Gibson comes out with a "standard" version as referenced in that little clip of Joe in the General Topics forum. It seems that these days Gibson leaves no stone unturned. yikes

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

Man, I have GAS so bad!  I just bought this one from Sam Ash!  It's an Epi '57 Les Paul that has the same specs/parts as the Epi Les Paul Tribute!  From posts I read at other forums, it has the '57 Classic / Classic + (American) pups, Mallory Caps, Switchcraft switches, slim neck profile, and all cream parts.  I paid $499, compared to the Tribute, which costs $799,  which wasn't even offered with the Gold Top.  This thing is gonna look good sitting next to my Epi JBLP!

As an update, I did get my replacement JBLP, and it is flawless!  I'm absolutely pleased that I called MF and got it replaced, even though the problems with the neck were probably just asthetic.  The case with the second was cracked on the bottom at the neck end though, so that went back with the first guitar.

They don't look like the same guitar, but the model number is the exact same on the two websites below.  Probably just lighting.  I'm hoping it'll look like the one on the UK website.  It looks more like a darker, less sparkly, gold.

Re: New Epiphones starting to appear?

I'm still in the same boat. Placed my order about a week before Christmas and still have no idea where my guitar is. I ordered it though a GC store and now my guy at GC isnt even getting back to me.
