Re: String life

Elixir make phenomenal acoustic, mandolin and bass strings...amazing - bright and that brightness lasts for weeks. Silky smooth too.

Sadly, the electric guitar strings do not come up to this level at all...they are okay, but I believe they are more prone to breaking and just do not have the life and sound of their other strings.

Which is annoying...

Re: String life

I play Elixirs. Love them, don't tell enough difference between it and other strings. And they stay on forever with great tone until I break one. I had some on my Strat for like a year before they broke, and the tone was still there.

Funny how two people have totally opposite feelings about a product.  Just goes to show - diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.  Also, I only like Elixer Nanowebs.  Tried the polywebs once a long time ago and didn't care for them at all.

Re: String life

Trust me the strings are shot after a gig, no manner of cleaning would revive them.

All depends how you play, for gigs we restring every guitar. For noodling at home, just leave them on until tuning gets tough. Use Nut Sauce, it makes a huge difference and also quality of strings.
We have an endorsement with Dean Markley and use their Blue Steels, stunning strings, they do last much longer than other quality strings we have used.

I use the Chrome Frets Silky Strings string cleaning system when the strings are new. Works like a dream. Strings last months instead of weeks. Puts a teflon based coating on the string and reduces contamination to almost zero. See demo video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDa9bUlBIRM
