Les Paul aficionado's

Does anybody know the relevance (if any) of the front screw of the pick guard being flat or phillips from guitar to guitar?  My JBLP is a philip's head and my Bonaburst is flat.  I just saw pictures of a later JBLP with flat screw.  Is there any relevance from year to year historically?
