Re: Anyone for Golf ?

Go USA. I love to see my hometown being shown off to the world.
Lots of golf left, but right now the USA kicking a** and taking names.

Yes Bill.  Still a lot of golf, but in this event anything can happen.  I'm surprised Tiger hasn't been able to get a win on a course he's dominated.  Two down on the first two holes.  I do wish the fans would stop applauding bad shots by the Europeans.  Bad form and something you don't see across the pond.

Funny that you should say that just now. They just showed a brief interview with Tiger about Ryder Cups, where he said he got booed when introduced on the first tee in Spain...so much for "you don't see that across the pond".
I guess I haven't paid close enough attention in this tournament. The only time I noticed anyone cheering a bad shot was when Rose hit that horrendous chip shot that went clear off the green. I don't agree with that, but these Ryder Cups have gotten so contentious, it doesn't surprise me from either side.

Big difference between being booed introduced vs being booed after a poor chip on the course.  Americans are SO competitive and you're right this thing has gotten a lot more contentious over the years.  Tomorrow is the biggest day as far as watching this thing.  Wish I could watch it with my son and get him to learn a few things, but he's not a  big fan of watching golf on TV.

IMO booing someone on the first tee is infinitely worse than cheering after a poor shot. The former is directed entirely at a specific player, where (although I don't agree with it) the latter seems directed at the potential outcome of a hole or match.
Although I would never cheer a bad shot in person, I have to admit to a few smiles when Europe has hit balls in the water. While I feel bad for the person hitting such a shot, I'm happy about the impact on the match. I would guess that's the same on both sides of the pond.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

You still watching?  Pretty good stuff and of course I inwardly smile at a bad shot cause I want our team to win.  I would never ever though applaud a bad shot.  My son is playing college golf and one of his teammates (who was the number 3 player on a H.S. state champion) I caught laughing twice at a playing partner's bad tee shot.  This kid is loathed by his college teammates cause he's such a jerk.  Btw, that kid he was laughing at blistered his **** in my city's big tournament this summer.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

Yeah, I've wasted an entire day but I can't take my eyes off of this. What great matches. A few that can still go either way. Fun stuff!

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

Poulter's a freaking stud.  Very clutch play at the end.  Steve Stricker definitely a bad choice for this team.  I thought Tiger musta thrown his back out carrying his partner.  Hope that point doesn't come back to haunt us.

A nice article in the morning fishwrap on our hometown star Phil Mickleson and his Ryder Cup career. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/sep … am-player/ That was a nice whooping he and Keegan laid on yesterday.

I'm a little late posting, but I cried myself to sleep last night, lol.
Kudos to Europe. As it always is with turnarounds of this magnitude, they needed some help from the opposition, but they played like the champions they are.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

The Torrey Pines tournament kicks off this week and Tiger and pals are lining up on the newly redesigned public course (Phil Mickleson did it as a donation to the city). All talk though is about Phil Mickleson and his outburst last week against the newly set top tax rates in California  (combined 63%). The San Diego native and local philanthropist says he's had enough and may leave the State for greener tax haven locales along with many other top earners. Tiger, another California native says he did that long ago with his relocation to Florida and wonders what took him so long. Perfect weather is forecast so vistas of the sunny Pacific bluffs will be broadcast to the rest of the frozen country. Will Tiger have it back? He's played well here in the past.
