It looks like a monsoon has set in there. If it only rains hard, that will be the best to hope for. Have fun.

Thanks - luckily I brought a waterproof pair of Crocs and a golf rain suit although I left the shoes in the car today and my sneaker got soaked. The hotel has a laundry room so we can pop it in later. Bringing in dinner so we can watch the golf tonight until dark.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

We're going to bail and watch on tv for at least this morning. It's raining out (must be the 30%) now and we'll either skip it today and do a long day tomorrow or take a run over later today.  The lead group just finished their first round.

Hay!  I completely agree!   Even as the granddaughter of of one of the USGA's Golfing Hall of Fame Original 100 inductees.

Jerome Dunstan Travers won this  in 1915.      I have to confess I am only 1/2 Sicilian!  Glad to be back from NYC and back on the Forum!

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

I hear ya' Rick, totally agree!! I love Phil, he's my man as far as American golfers go. I had to laugh at the media churning that he went to California for his daughter's graduation, then he finishes in first place!!

My niece spotted Tiger walking in the neighborhood, they are having fun. My nephew, who just graduated from high school took on a little entrepreneur spirit and tried to sell one of their extra parking passes. He got in trouble with a cop, who took it from him. Long story short, it was legal and after my brother tracked the cop down, the cop came to their house to apologize to my nephew and brought a new parking pass.

Yay! Phil played very well today and those shots that were off by a hair would have him well in the lead, especially the one off that pin. San Diego's favorite son is in the hunt! (man those greens are tough!)

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

We just got back from the Open. The course was indeed a terror to play despite what the sports writers thought in advance. And when we heard Phil had eagled that hole I told my partner it was the kiss of death and he wasn't going to win. If newspapers can be trusted Phil - during the round - complained to the architect of the course that some of he holes were "too hard". I'll simply say the course was the same for everyone and the best golfer this week won.  So I'd say this about anyone - you have no one to blame for losing but yourself. It was a grand Open designed as usual for few if any to break par.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

I picked Michael Kim(a) as one of my 10 players in a fantasy type contest to win some free golf in Monterey. Not only did he play well and scored me some points, but he outplayed many of the best players in the world and didn't win a nickel for his effort. As soon as he finishes at Cal he has a future on the PGA tour.

Another local boy. Torrey Pines H.S. grad. He was close to the lead on 14 I think and asked his caddy, "what happens if I win?"
That promptly got in his head and down he went.  lol

He played well regardless. BTW, did you hear how he found his caddy by a chance encounter in the parking lot? His caddy, DJ LaRue is just a local guy who caddies around the area and bartends at night as well as occasional DJ gigs. A chance meeting teamed them up, one of the stories within the big story.

Re: Anyone for Golf ?

Definitely a HEARTBREAKER!!! I thought Phil was going to pull it off. His Birthday, being Father's Day with the backstory of traveling for his daughter's graduation...the stars were almost aligned... We were making up the headlines.
PHIL adelphia

Congrats to Justin Rose, he seems like a nice chap and winning on Father's Day had a special meaning.  That area of Pennsylvania is lucky for him, he won at Aronimink Country Club a few years back, the A T & T classic, which is a couple of miles from Ardmore.

jdawg-about the caddy, a real live Bagger Vance. Definitely a cool story.

I hate it, was also pulling for him. really felt like all the planets would align and he would go out and win it. alas, not to be and it was painful to watch there at the end. congrats to Justin Rose, he hung around and put himself in position to win it. It was 43 years ago that an englishman took the US Open, quite a drought.

The girlfriend I absolutely believe.  I've heard it mentioned before by other players like G Mac.

The clubs are mental -'to my knowledge the pros have their clubs so tuned to their specifications that they bear little relation to the ones sold on the market.  I'd hope by now Rory knows what works for him and had the Nike techs build them.

That being said I love The Open with the time difference.

I see Tiger is playing with G Mac. I wonder if Rory gets booed if he plays poorly again.
